Then they went on to say the pearly gates
Brandr worked out his emotions as he often did, through work. The pack meeting had been tense and left him feeling stunned and numb that the alpha was just suddenly gone. It also made him realize how much of an outsider he was in this pack. Everyone in Abaven seemed to have known each other for so long. The emotions and the outbursts that were voiced in the meeting left Brandr questioning and uncertain and in the end all he could do was sit and watch, a silent spectator to the whirling emotions about him.
He was taking a walk through the cooler night air, keeping alert should he spy any signs of prey. As he travelled he spied Corentine not far off, nestled on a knoll and he sighed softly to himself. He felt terrible for her, he felt terrible for everyone and he honestly just wanted to avoid the whole pack while he worked through his own baggage but at the same time he felt it would be wrong to just turn his shoulder to another pack member like that. Not that he'd have any idea what to say.
Brandr approached the knoll and sat at the base of it, staring up into the sky where Corentine had been looking. His mouth opened for a moment but no sound came out and so he shut it lightly. He'd give her space. If she wanted to talk she could if she'd rather just watch the night sky in silence he was fine with that to.

Then they went on to say the pearly gates
Brandr remained quiet, just staring at the night sky. He was in no hurry and he was pretty sure he wasn't going to sleep well that night so he didn't bother. He held off on the pack hunt, unsure if he should even bother. He'd hoped it might unwind tension but there was clearly bitterness between pack members and forcing them to work together when emotions were so raw was probably a bad idea. Not to mention several members had simply left the pack. It made Brandr uneasy. He felt like he was watching everything erode right out from under his paws and then what was he going to do?
Corentine seemed to notice him and she turned to him with a smile which Brandr quickly returned. He knew she was bothered by what happened at the meeting but he wasn't going to bring it up if she didn't want to talk about it. It was the same courtesy he'd expect for himself. Brandr shrugged at her question. "Eh, I don't know really. I don't think I can sleep tonight, too wound up so I thought I might do a bit of hunting. What about you? What are you doing out here?"

Then they went on to say the pearly gates
Brandr felt confident that whatever happened he could carry on all right. He'd survived the fall of his own pack, the loss of his father and of his mother and if it was required for him to try another pack he would. However, he couldn't help but wonder about Corentine and her family. It was painful to be uprooted when you had a family and he just hoped that regardless of who ended up ruling the pack that it would be able to continue.
Corentine stated that she couldn't sleep either and at the mention of being his hunting partner his ears perked up and he smiled. "I would love a hunting partner. Any particular quarry you were thinking of? I thought I might see if we can pick off some ducks sleeping in the reeds." Brandr stood and stretched for a moment, rolling his shoulders slowly to prep himself for the hunt. "Do you want to start tracking or shall I?"
At least, that was his original plan. As he glanced at the sky he frowned and shook his head. "Actually, Corentine, it's getting really late. Maybe we can hunt another time but I think both of us should get some rest. Goodnight!" He offered her a warm smile and headed back for his den. Early morning was a good time to hunt and with the pack so divided he couldn't count on them coming together to feed everyone. It was going to be a long day.
