OOC: Dated day after pack hunt

Her new den was not yet finished and it was frustrating her. It was a lot more work then she had expected, but she wanted this den to last. She was the only one working on it and it was taking her longer because of it. That of course was expected, but with all then suppressed emotions lately it was making her feel extremely frustrated with the project. She wanted the main part of the den bigger, big enough for several wolves. She was trying to think ahead and prepare for the day she may have more then just her sleeping here, but it was hard for her to get things just right especially since the main part of the den was under one of the more larger trees in the plains. Though it was a decent spot in her opinion, far from the cliffs and close to a rather slow moving spot of water. It would do for now at least, even when the rapids were not to far from her location. So it may not be the best spot if she were to ever get small ones, but for now she felt it was the best.

She was still young and if her life turned out similar to her mother's she wouldn't have any pups until the older years, but she wanted to be prepared. Her mother had always told her stories of taking in young abandoned pups so she wanted to be prepared for that also. Making it as spacious as she wanted was a lot of work, but she felt it was necessary. She had also dug out another tunnel and room off to the left of her real sleeping area so that she could keep a small stockpile of herbs at hand. In reality she felt each territory that the pack resided in should have a stock pile of herbs so that it would be easy to get what was needed no matter where you were. The plains she would be sure had a good enough stockpile in herbs to treat snake bites since it was a high travel area for snakes.

She pulled herself from her work, shook out her coat, and sighed deciding that it was time for a break. She was finished with the digging part, next would be to move her collection of pelts from her old den to here and carefully moving over herbs to here. Once that was done she would go to the rapids and dig a herb den there. Her mother had done a grand job of stock piling herbs, now it was a matter of them becoming remotely useful.

There is hope within despair

Brandr was out scouting the plains. Despite the recent hunt he wanted to keep an eye on the movement of prey through the plains for when winter fell over Abaven. Winter was both a blessing and a boon to a hunting wolf and he could only hope that the winter would not be too harsh and drive the prey numbers down. Abaven was quiet, as it usually was. No knew wolves had joined to the best of his knowledge but no more had left so there was that. He did wonder how Tyrannis was doing. What would the future bring for their packs? Perhaps he could arrange a visit some time to see how the youth was holding up. He didn't know Tyrannis very well but he'd enjoyed the boys company when he was out hunting prairie chickens and he seemed to be a fine lad.

Brandr's thoughts drifted to Corentine. He wanted to ask how she was doing with two of her family members leaving but he just didn't know how to bring up the topic let alone what he could say. He didn't have a clue how to comfort her. Speaking of… Brandr spied some dirt being flung into the air. At first he wondered if it was a hyperactive gopher but then he saw Corentine back out of the den. Smiling he trotted over to her.

"Good afternoon, Corentine. What are you up to?"

It wasn't long before his deep voice called out to her. She felt a sudden lightness wash over her and her tail began to wag. Turning her head she looked to him with a smile, her eyes bright, before she looked back to her newly dug den.

"Well.. I've only ever lived in my Birth den and I think now is a great time to start a new," she said with a smile. "A lot more work then I expected though I at least have it all dug out."

They had a successful hunt and it felt refreshing to have some pack bonding time. She turned to face him before she sat down.

"It was relieving to have some pack action yesterday" she said her smile getting a bit brighter.

She was skipping around the fact of how she was doing, but then again there hadn't been anyone that had really asked. She never really wanted to get in the nitty gritty of her true feelings. She hadn't really ever had to, not that she could remember.

Corentine replied that she was starting a new and remodeling her birth den.  He nodded. That made sense. It probably felt strange to live in a den that once belonged to several wolves. Brandr knew that if he were in her place he'd welcome the smell of fresh earth to dull the scent of those were were now gone.  "Would you like any help digging?" He had rather good-sized paws and a muscular frame that helped with physical labor.

Brandr grinned at her comment about the hunt and he nodded. "Yes, and it sure helped us stock up for the winter. I hope we can do it again soon but for now I think the members of Abaven will appreciate a rest. Next time I say we try for something less taxing than buffalo."  The wind picked up a bit and for a moment his gaze turned to the horizon. "Corentine… do you miss your mother? Tyrannis?" It had seemed strange to him at first that she'd stayed behind instead of going with her family and he wondered why she'd chosen to stay in Abaven. He didn't know Storm or Tyrannis terribly well. Honestly, the whole thing seemed to have come out of nowhere. One morning he'd woken up to learn that several of Abaven's members were just… gone. How quickly things seemed to change. Every time he turned around someone else was leaving and a part of him feared that Corentine might leave to.

She smiled as he offered his help in digging, she still had a lot of digging to do. She was glad for the offer, but right now she felt she needed a break and didn't feel it was fair that she relaxed while he worked. She really wouldn't mind the help though, maybe after a little break to talk

"I would love the help, but I myself need a little break," she said with a soft smile.

She listened to him speak of the hunt and her smile grew. It had been a fine day and she was happy that two other wolves worked with them to take down a large kill. It was big, but they accomplished and she was thankful everyone came out successful and unharmed.

"Yes something just a little less" she answered.

He then grew quiet, looking away towards the horizon. Then he asked a question that made those pushed back emotions threaten to surface and her heart ache for the comfort of her mother. She quietly took a breath, pushing back the emotions so she wouldn't break.

"Yes vary much so. Me and mom were close after Derecho and Tempest left I guess because I was her only daughter left. She was my best friend so I miss her extremely. Ty... Even though we didn't get along, yes I miss him to," she replied looking down at her paws for now.

Something in the air seemed at peace and overall it just made Brandr feel more content. He lived for nice, simple days like these. Corentine stated she appreciated his offer to help but she was in need of a break. "Sounds good, anything in mind? We could go for a walk or if you'd like to just rest and chat that works for me or… well how about I dig for awhile you rest? We can switch off as needed." Brandr had a large, muscular build and he figured he might as well put it to good use. That build was exactly why he'd been trained as a warrior early on before he found himself drawn more to hunting.

Brandr listened as Corentine took a sharp breath and he turned toward her immediately regretting his question. Before he could take it back though she answered. She indeed missed her family quite a lot. She was looking down at her paws and Brandr felt suddenly conflicted. He wanted to ask her why she stayed when her family left but found the words had dried up in his mouth. "Sorry, I don't mean to make you sad. Maybe we can visit some time or hold joint training or some sort of pack event between packs." Brandr was completely oblivious to Tyrannis' feelings regarding Abaven. As far as he was concerned the packs out to be close, right?

A walk sounded like a good idea, getting some fresh air while enjoying the life around them and talking. It sounded like a great thing to do, though if he really wanted to do some digging she didn't want to stop him. She liked the idea of them digging together it should be big enough to fit both of them since the main part of her den was meant to be vary roomy. With his size he would also be a good test subject of how roomy it was.

"How about a walk first and then we come back and get to work" she suggested.

There was something off about Ty, something Corentine could never truly understand. She somewhat knew of his feelings over Abaven and though Brandr's suggestion was a vary good one, she doubted her brother would go for it. That was okay though, she knew Ty loved their mother and that she would be taken care of so the worry on her mother's health was low. Though seeing her may not be a good idea, depending on her brother's mood. She really didn't want Brandr to know how her brother could be so she smiled at his suggestions and nodded. Heck maybe she was wrong, maybe Ty would go for it.

"It would be real nice to keep close with them, Not sure where he planned to make his pack, but no matter how far we could always hold things at a halfway point." she nodded lightly before standing to stretch out her legs a little. After all the digging so far, sitting here was making her muscles crampy.

Brandr took off across the plains, glad to be moving. He enjoyed walks, they helped him thing and calmed his mind when his thoughts threatened to overwhelm him. It would also serve as a good warm up before returning to dig the den. It had been awhile since he'd done any digging, not since fall anyway when he'd dug a few temporary storage dens for game. It was hard to believe how quickly time was flying. He nodded at Corentine's words. "A halfway point sounds like a good idea. When I do my scouting outside the pack I'll try and keep an eye out for word or scent of Ty's pack." He wasn't sure if Sparrow had tried to find Tyrannis yet or not. She would likely want to be informed of the other packs and their relationship to Abaven.

"How has your training been going?" He asked, making light conversation.

Thankfully he liked her suggestion and headed off across the plains. She began to move as well quickly falling in line beside him. Her muscles were glad for the stretch and would sure help them from cramping once they got back to work. The day was fairly warm and the sun felt good against her back. Her mouth dropped open slightly and her nose began to twitch as it took in the scents around them. She tried to think back if her mother even mentioned anything about where Ty would have gone, but really there hadn't been anything. She really didn't know where he would've gone, but if Brandr found out she supposed it wouldn't hurt.

"Thank you, It would be nice to know where they have gone, but maybe mom will come back and visit once they had been fully established," she said with a smile.

Storm did like to travel so it would make sense that she would come back to visit her here in Abaven. He then asked about her training and she nodded lightly.

"Good, now that it's nicer I can go herb hunting and keep the herb stocks filled.. I would like to do a training session, but I'm not sure we have many wolves that would be interested in attending. It would be nice to have some more members," she said patrially letting her thoughts be known.

Maybe now that Sparrow had someone to go out and scout, maybe word could be spread about there pack and some more numbers trickle in. She knew when she would be out hunting she would be spreading the word, hopefully it may get a few new faces in the pack.

Brandr strolled through the plains, enjoying the warmer turn in the weather though as he gazed out across the horizon he could see some clouds beginning to build in the north. Were they in for more snow? It wouldn't surprise him. It seemed like whenever they had a few days of nice weather it would turn cold again and either snow or become bitter and windy. It was good they were taking a moment to enjoy the warm spell while they had it. Brandr nodded at Corentine's words. Yes, it made sense that Storm would come visit them and let them know where Tyrannis had settled his new pack. Brandr expected Tyrannis to swing by as well. It only made sense that once he established his pack that he might look fo his former one to start an alliance.

The conversation moved to her training and he found himself agreeing. "Well, I probably wouldn't make a good healer but I'd be happy to attend a lesson if you wanted to share your knowledge. I agree though, it would be good for Abaven to expand its ranks. Perhaps when spring rolls around we can do some recruiting." Maybe. He wasn't quite sure if that would pan out. Spring tended to be the busiest time for healers and hunters alike. Brandr wasn't expecting to do a lot of traveling but it was hard to predict.

She strolled by his side happy to be stretching out her limbs and warming them up for round two of her den task. She was also thankful that she had such a good relationship with Brandr to have someone to go to if she needed to talk. Other then him she really didn't feel that close to anyone. Her relationship with Sparrow was okay, but she didn't feel close enough to her. Brandr had always seemed to stick out then all the rest in the pack, even the first time they had met. He had the time and the patience for her, the age difference wasn't by much and she felt that both of them in a way related to one another. She no longer had family here and Brandr came here without family. Quite a few members of the pack were related which at times made it awkward.

His comment about not being a good healer made her smile, her eyes lighten with amusement. He would happily attend even if healing wasn't his thing. It made her happy to know he would be so supportive and she knew she could count on at least one wolf to be there. He mentioned about recruiting which is something she hadn't really thought about. Could any of the members do this?

"It would be something to try at least, I'm sure I for one would run into others while I'm out gathering herbs. I guess we just kinda tell them about Abaven and see if their interested? I guess that's how it works," she said glancing to him to hear his opinion.

It seemed simple enough to do and if they didn't join, well at least she had tried her part. She wasn't sure if that's specifically how Sparrow would want things done, but Sparrow would be happy for new members right?

"Maybe even into the fall too, I'm sure some loners would be seeking safety before Winter hits," she added as her mind continued to think on the matter.
