I Mean It

He really had no idea how docile a young wolverine could be, and what was even more strange to him was that this little one seemed able to understand him. It was bizarre, something Elias would have never expected... he hadn't run into many creatures that could speak the tongue of wolves, the only others belonging to a tempest with ravens. The thought of talking ravens reminded him of the one that the demon in him hunted down in pursuit of an innocent. That thought gave him a good idea of who to take this young cub to.
He sighed, breath warming the back of the wolverine cub's nape that he carried while his mind replayed little snippets of what occurred that night. He could not remember clearly at all, but he knew what happened. He'd met one of the children that the night had resulted in, already... but he never again saw the woman he had hurt. It had been over two years ago now, but Elias hoped that enough time had passed from that night for him to say that he had full control now over whether or not something like that would happen again.
It was hard to say what caused it, the illusions.. the split. He wasn't sure what was going on in his brain half of the time, but he discovered that trying his best to stay out of it and stay busy is what kept him the sanest. That, and very little social interaction.
It took him some time to track her down, and throughout the nights that he and the cub spent together.. he grew fond of it. It was hard not to grow fond of something that you feed and protect for so long, but he still did not trust himself to take care of it himself.
"Where are we going?" the young cub asked.
Elias stopped briefly at the sight of some wolf tracks, setting the cub down on the trail so that he could sniff, too. It seemed to like doing that, to help him get the scent of a hunt. It was cute.
"There is someone I think who could use your help," Elias answered, his voice full of guilt for a multitude of reasons. He swallowed hard as he tried not to look down to the wolverine and focused on the direction that the tracks were going.
