Noon. The perfect time to hunt. It was getting warmer with the sun rising higher in the sky, the titan making his way to the water for a drink. Once there, he drank his fill, the male listening for any sounds of approach. What caught his attention were the strange honking noises, and just across from him were tall pink birds in the shallows of the pool. Some appeared to have only one leg, while others walked around with their heads dipped towards the water. Having never seen a flamingo before, he grinned. This would be an easy hunt. Right?

Bleh! It was hot out here! Aerndis scampered through the sand before sliding into the shade underneath a group of palm trees. She flopped down on her belly and lay there panting for a moment before a shimmer in the distance caught her attention. Water! Pulling herself to her feet she trotted over and began to slurp the water down as quick as she could. Once satisfied she was about to go lay down for a nap when she heard funny bird noises.

Taking off toward them she spied the weirdest looking birds she'd ever seen. They were tall and skinny with huge beaks and they were bright pink! A large man nearby also didn't escape her notice. She slinked over to him, giving a soft bark in greeting. "Hey! Do you know what those things are?"

Crimson gaze watched the pink birds, almost ready to engage in a hunt when a young voice piped up. Distracted, he turned his attention to the young girl, and his eyes widened in surprise. Wasn't that one of the kids that had been born in Dauntless? He had never interacted with them, but he remembered seeing their mother once or twice and had seen the kids running around from afar. He was pretty sure this was one of them, he could never forget a coat like hers after all.

When she directed a question at him, he turned his gaze back to the birds again. He had never seen a flamingo before, so he racked his brain to try and remember if someone had ever told him about them. Back when he ran his own pack, he vaguely recalled his old mate telling him about them...they were...Shit, what were they called? It took him a few moments, but at last the name came to him! "I believe these are called flamingos," At least...he was sure that's what these were. They definitely weren't storks or herons, that much he knew. Turning his attention back to the girl, he wondered if her mother was anywhere nearby. But judging by her scent, it didn't seem like it. "Are you hungry?" She looked to be in decent shape, so he guessed she was eating, but he couldn't say for sure.

The man turned to her and a flicker of familiarity flitted across her mind. She felt she'd seen this man before but she couldn't remember from where and soon her thoughts were back to the strange pink birds. She wondered if they were edible. They sure looked like they ought to be edible though it was hard to tell. They were bright pink! That could mean they were poisonous or tasted really bad. The man said they were called flamingos. "Flamingos?" she repeated softly. The word felt odd and foreign in her tongue but she wouldn't question him.

"Are you hungry?"

She turned to the man and nodded her head excessively. "Yes, I'm always hungry. Can you teach me how to hunt flamingos?"

The child was amusing, that much he could say. He watched her as she seemed to softly repeat the word, chuckling softly as he returned his attention to the birds for a moment. There was a good sized flock all bunched together, and as he observed them, he cocked one ear in the pups direction as she spoke. Always hungry huh? Well that didn't sound good. He took it as a sign that she was alone, and he wondered where her mother had gone off to. "Alright, I'll teach you how to hunt flamingos,"

The large male lowered himself closer to the ground, urging her to come forward. He jerked his head a little towards the tightly knit flock, watching as most of them submerged their heads in search of food. This should be easy. "You see how they're grouped together? I think they'll be easy to catch. Being that close together means it would make it more difficult for them to get enough room to fly away," They were at a good enough distance to where the birds weren't spooked, but he figured that when they got close enough, they would startle and most likely try to fly away. "Their legs are long, but their claws are blunt. You won't get hurt much, maaaybe a few light poundings from their wings when they try to scatter to the air, but as I said before, they're packed together quite nicely. We can get close, charge them, and grab one or two while they're in a panic." Yes, that sounded simple enough. How hard could they be to hunt? If anything, he had the size and power to jump into the air and catch one when they tried to take off, and she would be able to grab a foot or a leg, or maybe she'd even be lucky enough to grab one by the wing or the neck. The birds were clumsy, too engrossed in their search for food.

"Yay, thank you!" Aerndis chirped as the man agreed to teach her out to hunt the strange birds. He lowered himself to the ground and signaled for her to come toward him so she did, her body instinctively slipping into a stalking crouch as she crept up next to him. She nodded at his words. She did she how the grouped together in their gangly, pink flock. She often saw birds flocking together, they seemed to be like wolves in that they preferred to be in packs.

Aerndis nodded again at the man's logic as he laid out their strategy. Her eyes scanned the birds, searching for weakness as she tried to pick out her target. "Ok, I think I see the one I want to go for. They have such long skinny necks a good bite and shake ought to do it, right?"

He liked this kids enthusiasm, and he felt glad to know he was able to teach her something. Even if she never hunted these things again, at least she could put it to use on something else. Young minds were like sponges, after all. "Ok, I think I see the one I want to go for. They have such long skinny necks a good bite and shake ought to do it, right?" He nodded, keeping his eyes trained on the flock. "Yes. Bird necks are very fragile, and since the necks of these particular birds are longer, it'll make it easier to break them." He tilted his head to look at her for a moment, a small grin showing. "Here we go!"

He crept forward, aiming to get several feet closer to the birds before they made their move. Once he felt close enough, he burst from his position and barrelled towards them as fast as his feet could carry him. The movement startled the birds, and he watched them flail and panic as they practically tried to scramble to safety. Unfortunately for them, his plan was working. The birds had been too closely packed together which made them slower at getting into the air. Crimson gaze locked onto one of the bright pink birds, and the moment his paws splashed into the water, he launched.

The flamingo he targeted just barely managed to get above his head, but it wasn't fast enough. Acere landed right where the bird had been a moment ago, but quickly bunched his hind legs and launched upwards. Teeth closed around the birds feet, and with a terrified honk, the flamingo was slammed into the shallow water. While it was dazed, Ace let go of his hold on its feet only to quickly plant its teeth around it's neck. He made a twisting motion and snapped the birds elongated neck, and once he was done he raised his head for a moment with the bird clamped in his teeth to see how the youngster was doing. Chaos ensued all around him as the birds tried to escape.

Aerndis felt excitement shiver down her spine in anticipation. Energy was building in her hind legs, ready to break loose. She grinned as he spoke of the birds thin necks being a weak point. She was right. She finally felt like she was growing more intuitive in her hunting. Acere crept forward and she followed suit, slinking right up to the end of the water, as close as she dared to get and ten they were off. Both wolves exploded from cover, straight for the birds. They scrambled and fluttered, bumping into each other as they tried to take off. Aerndis leapt, seeking to get as close as she could before she hit water.

She crashed into the water and leapt again, eyes locked on her target. Just as the bird leapt into the air she sprang, catching one of it's long skinny legs and shaking her head violently til the leg broke. The creature cried out as she released it, but only for a second before her jaws were around it's neck. They both hit the water, thrashing until she finally heard a sickening snap and the creature went limp. Yes! She'd done it! Dropping her kill she looked up to see how Acere had done.
