sound the horns

The herds would be moving on soon, Fortune knew that well enough. This time two years ago, she'd been following them when she'd been swept away. The brave knew better now. She wasn't going to make the same mistake twice, lest it be her last. It was too dangerous to track the bison and the deer alone, let alone try to take them on. This would be one of their last chances, and with a reasonably warm day, they had to at least make an effort. If there was no one else to call for it... well, maybe it wasn't the most socially graceful thing to do, but she wasn't shy. Standing at the top of the valley, Fortune tipped her head back and called out for anyone who would like to join her. A hunt on what may very well be the last good day? Three more able bodied adults would be ideal, they could take down a mule deer and eat well for a little while longer. Work together. Improvise. Live your best life-- the brave was ready. fortune shock & awe |
I can't make this mandatory, but large prey hunt threads are fun. Three more adults would be ace, love you guys.

Torin heard his aunt's call and despite himself he felt his face pulling into a small smile. It felt like a lifetime ago he'd heard any activity from the pack and it did his heart good. The male gave one last sniff at the borders, finished up his patrol and trotted off to where his aunt had called for aid. He was among the first to arrive it seemed and some part of him was anxious to see who, if anyone, else showed up. He knew some where not in a position to show up yet, Rin was getting too old and Jewell had her pups to think about but his siblings were more than capable of helping out and Hailey had been eager to prove herself. As for his father... well, that was a whole other barrel of monkeys.
He approached Fortune with his tail raised, wagging it slightly. He settled beside her, watching for who else might appear.

He was in his den when he heard her. The call for a hunt echoed through the air. He wasn't too sure if he should join, or even if he would be allowed to join given his condition, but he didn't want to just keep sitting here and doing nothing. He felt like everyone was disappointed in him for not helping and letting himself fall so low. But not today. He would help with this hunt, even if it killed him. And that decision was reinforced when he heard Frostbite make a second call for the pack. If he was calling after Fortune, then he imagined that they needed more hunters. Very well, he would go.
Dragging himself to his paws, he stepped out of his den and blinked the sun from his eyes. His coat was shaggy, frame much too skinny then it should be for someone his size, but he didn't want to keep being a disappointment to everyone. He made his way to where the others were gathered, their healthier and bulkier frames coming into view. Translucent green eyes swept over the trio, gaze coming to rest on Fortune for a moment. Though his gaze was dull, it was as if he almost dared her to try and send him away. Just so he could emphasize how badly he wanted to help them.

The howl for the hunt felt like a prod in his side. He kept thinking about how he wished he was more involved with his pack, but he hadn't actually done much to solve it. The call got him up onto his paws and he started making his way to meet with Fortune and whoever else had chosen to come help out with the hunt. Frost's additional call made him pick up the pace, but he arrived soon afterward. He was happy to see his brother their along with his former mentor. He didn't recognize the older man that had joined them, but he was just happy to be around multiple pack members at once. He settled down next to Torin, giving the lighter-colored man a grin. He turned his gaze to Fortune, offering her a smile and a nod of his head. One hunt wasn't going to make or break how he interacted with the pack, but it was certainly a start. |
