Escaping the Reality

After everything from the previous day with the boys return and the tension between Torin and Zell, he felt he needed a break. Things were settled enough that he felt Torin wouldn't let his emotions cloud his judgement as the second leader and Frost just felt the need to escape for a little. If he would be honest with himself the real reason he wanted to get away today was because he was feeling a bit low. Once more he now ran the pack with a much younger wolf who would surly outshine him within days. His prime time in his life was beginning to slip away from him and the tall male was beginning to feel the strangle hold of old age. It was starting with the slight ache in his joints and with winter the ache was growing more noticeable.
He had no particular plan for where he was going to go, but he had taken off early that morning after his morning patrol was completed. For a while he just steadily wandered, no particular direction or even speed of his pace. It was just nice to be in unfamiliar surroundings for once. He headed to the dancefloor and when he reached the territory he felt satisfied enough to stop wandering. He settled in a soft spot and just relaxed, closing his eyes and clearing his mind and letting the sounds of the territory fill his mind.

Padding along through the long grasses, Amos was rather enjoying doing some traveling lately. It was nice to keep himself busy and moving, exploring lands all over the place but always returning to Celestial after a short while. He kind of wanted to get more spars in but the last time he passed the battlefield Amos didn't catch any recent scents so he figured he'd give it a while. The snow might be sending the loners in the other direction as winter started cooling things off considerably. Today was pleasant enough though, which was great since Amos didn't really fancy hopping through deep snow just yet.
He wasn't sure what he wanted to do today other than wander aimlessly. More than likely the young man would have just wandered around for some time before either finding a way to ocupy himself or heading home, however, a familiar scent met his nose and roused him from his thoughts. Halting his directionless march, Amos took another whiff to confirm, a light smile playing at his lips. Yeah, he'd met this guy once before. Ever the sociable creature, Amos wouldn't hesitate to trot in the direction of the scent, barking a cheerful greeting when he felt close. "Spending more time outside your borders?" he called before he'd actually seen the man, tail fanning the air gently.

The steady sounds of the world around him were soothing. He let himself focus fully on them, to push all other thoughts from his mind and to calm himself. In doing so it made him relax more and even made him a little dopey. He didn't mind being dopey since there was no real rush to get back. He wouldn't stay out too long, not wanting to let things being overwhelming for Torin just yet. He was out to help him, give him experience until he was comfortable to truly take over. Though Frost wouldn't admit it, he feared that day. With him getting older, no mate or kids, he felt there wouldn't be enough duties to keep himself busy and to keep his mind busy. Jewell's kids were not runts anymore so there was no need for a babysitter. It was a lot to think about if he left his mind drift towards the future.
A bark roused him from his state, his eyes gently opening and his head turning to glance in the direction it came from. A familiar form approached, speaking out and making Frost smile. Frost had remembered his last encounter with Amos, speaking about hunting and sharing a bit of what he knew when it came to hunting. It would be a nice distraction to have the younger male's company. The wind brought his scent to him and along with that intermingled the scent of pack. A lot had happened since their last meeting.
"Yeah the weather was calm enough I figured it wouldn't hurt for a little trip. And you? Seems you have joined with a pack," he replied with a smile.

Nodding, Amos laughed, "Never a bad idea to take advantage of a good opportunity! Especially when the real cold of winter shouldn't be too far off." Though Amos did intend to leave the warmer lands Celestial resided in to go enjoy the snow a bit when the weather turned. Maybe he could convince someone to come slide down the knolls with him!
The usual grin widened considerably at Frost's comment. "Sure did! Been terribly busy, I joined Celestial, and trying to get used to the whole concept of pack life. It's going pretty well so far I think," he mused, thinking over the time since his joining. He'd enjoyed it quite a bit there so far, mostly because he'd had fun hanging out with the shimmery heir of the pack. He only knew a few of the others by name or from very brief meetings. Annnd now that he had that thought, he'd have to go and fix that sometime soon. "How's your pack been?"

Frost nodded to Amos' words knowing vary well the harsh winter was just around the corner. Although last year he had found the winter was a lot less harsh in this part of Boreas and he only hoped this year would be the same.
"Ah hopefully it will be mild like it was last year," he said with a slight grin.
Amos began to explain he had been busy and joined Lirim's sister pack, Celestial. It interested him because Frost had never visited Celestial, it was close family of Faite's and had always been in great standing with Lirim, but he had never personally visited with them. Maybe he should and make sure the alpha was okay that Lirim had a change in leadership and to break the news of the disappearance of both Faite and Rory.
"I'm glad your settling in well, pack life will surely grow on you. Mine has been doing well so far. A few bumps in the road but nothing we couldn't overcome," he replied with a smile.

The young man would grin and laugh, "I like your optimism!" Not that Amos himself wasn't sort of optimistic, he just had an inkling that the cold would kinda suck. Maybe growing up was just taking that sunshine and rainbows mentality little by little. Depressing thought, but he couldn't complain too much. A certain amount of realism kept one alive.
Amos sat back, relaxing a little as he started to settle into the conversation. Frost seemed like a pretty nice guy, easy to get along with at least. Chatting with him was at the very least pretty enjoyable, which was more than he could say for some. "It's certainly an upgrade from being starved for a good conversation. An' it's good to hear your pack's doing well! Say, I'm curious, you ever belonged to one before the one now?" Amos still didn't know many of the other packs of Boreas, and definitely none from lands beyond. He had a sudden spark of curiosity driving him to want to know more, though. Especially if there were others that were very different from Celestial. It might be fun to go out of his way to learn a bit about some of their neighbors.
