Party in the Graveyard

Snow kissed paws padded silently across the field. Blood red gaze surveyed her surroundings as she paused, wondering where she was. Nostrils flared as she detected the scent of blood-stained earth, ears twitching at the numerous sounds of battle cries that echoed across the area. Where exactly had she ended up? She squinted her eyes towards the sky, almost as if she was observing it. The sun wouldn't be up for another hour or so. At least she hoped. She hated the sun, and since it was summer, it meant she hated it twice as much. Huffing, she continued on her path. She didn't have any real destination in mind, so she decided maybe she'd try her luck. Who knew? Maybe she'd get acquainted with a local native.

Niente was small, and so far few potential members had come bearing a recommendation from one of their few members. He supposed that was to be expected. They were far from "civilization" and since the membership was inclined towards the misfits and cast-offs who didn't fit in anywhere else, they were unlikely to bring in many new wolves they trusted enough to vouch for. He'd brought a couple members south with him who needed testing, but left them camped out near the border before continuing on alone. They needed to be tested, their skills honed, but this part he needed to do alone. His dark muzzle rose, testing the air. There were wolves around, there almost always were, but as he took the time to wander to and fro, following the freshest scents, nearly all were there for a fight. For the thrill of the battle, for building skill, whatever their reasons, they were just looking for a spar. That's not what he was looking for.
His gaze fell on a dark-coated female with the same wandering gait he ambled along at. Someone looking for something, but not quite sure what exactly it was they sought. He tilted his head slightly as he came to a stop before her. "Good evening," he murmured courteously.

Blood red gaze slowly took in the scenery around her. Not that there was anything of interest if she was honest. She did catch a glimpse of the occasional, far-off figures fighting for whatever reasons they decided to fight for. During her little observations, she heard the faintest of sounds coming towards her. Was someone approaching her? Was that what they did in these kinds of places? Instinctively, her muscles tensed a bit in preparation to move in the event someone tried to attack her, and she purposely kept her attention away from whoever it was and thought perhaps she could do a sneak attack of her own and catch them off guard. But she was mildly surprised when a greeting was carried to her. What? Head slowly turned towards the voice to see a dark-furred male that appeared to be the same size as her. Her gaze drifted over him, seemingly appraising his worth.
When she was done, she gathered that he was in a pack, and most likely had an important role. She had just run from a pack not long ago, so...an alpha? If she was wrong on that, then perhaps another of similar rank. She supposed she might find out. The lands here were still unknown to her. She didn't know anything about the natives or their lands, so she was very much suspicious and wary. Was it customary for others to approach so freely? The only life and customs she ever knew had been with her pack...and there, every approach was different. But none that were like this. She was not used to being greeted. "To you as well, sir." That was something that was said when greetings were returned, she was sure. Or at least, she heard things like that in passing. "Tell me, sir...where am I? What do they call this place?"

Enrico tilted his head to the side. It wasn't the first time a stranger had asked him that very question here, and he wondered how many more times he would hear it before he reached the end of his life. It amused him, but he could hardly expect newcomers to not ask that question, it wasn't as though there was an information kiosk anywhere. "They call this place simply the Battlefield," he told her quietly. It is set aside by tradition as a place no pack may claim, so that loners and pack wolves alike may always know where they may find a sparring partner, or alphas may find loners willing to join a pack." He studied the black-and-white form before him for a brief moment. "Which are you, signora? Have you come seeking a fight, or a home?"
