Today Malleus was taking one of his young apprentices on a field trip. While Auster wasn't experiencing the winter storms that plagued Boreas, it had problems of its own. The dry season was upon them and the land and its inhabitants had all but shriveled up. Still, there were things that could be gathered and lessons that could be taught, so he'd rounded up his apprentice and set off for Auster's northernmost land. Admittedly he didn't know much about Seiran. Since seeking refuge in Risen her and her brother had been fairly quiet and he hadn't had much of a chance to get to know that. Malleus was going to try to change that, though. It was his belief that Abraxas children left to their own devices had the odds of success stacked against them. He couldn't let what happened to Proserpina happen to Seiran. Finally they stood on the edge of the Grove looking in. Malleus had already told her the name of the plant they were looking for, but he hadn't detailed their appearance or their uses beyond a cursory explanation of why they were going on the trip in the first place. "Alright, we're looking for a tall shrub. The leaves are probably wilted, but the stalks the berries grow on should still be easily recognizable. They'll be red and the dark purple berries will grow in clusters at the end." Word count: 232 |
