Edit:: Set before Peg's challenge! <3
Philomena felt a bit better after her walk with Pegasus. Hopeful… that maybe, just maybe, things were going to be okay. She was just with No Face at the moment, walking back to the densite, but as she walked into the familiar territory she could sense it. Something was terribly wrong. The feeling made her stomach twist in knots and the woman called to her companion with a sense of urgency in her voice. “Find Pegasus, Now!”
No sooner had the cry left her lips Philly broke into a run. Urgency carried her to the den where she had left her children. Her heart pounded in her chest as she dimly noticed that there was a lack of presence outside of the den. No sign of Dylas, Evangelos, or Nausicaa.
It was once she hit the den that Philomena froze. Her blue eyes fell on the form of her other daughter, Ventuswill, and took note of how still she was. There was no smell of death yet in the den… she… she couldn’t be dead, right? This feeling she had… it was just paranoia… It had to be!
Philly moved to her daughter’s side, speaking and trying to keep her voice calm. “I-It’s alright Venti. Mama is here now." The woman curled around the child and felt her heart flutter again in panic.
While Ventuswill still had warmth it was leaving her body. She felt like she growing stiff. Philomena shuddered, her eyes widening as she looked at her daughter’s face.
“Gods…”
This wasn’t real.
Venti wore a small smile on her face, but there was no doubt her body was horribly still because she was no longer breathing. Though it had not been long since her passing Ventuswill had left this world.
A sharp wail left Philomena in that next instant as the realization hit her.
Her daughter was dead.
...and it was her fault.

He had gone out early that morning to explore some more, leaving Venti and the others alone. He didn't think much of it at first because, well...he had done it many times before. His mother had been going out more with some guy that he knew went by the name of Pegasus, but other than that he didn't know much else. Dylas often kept to himself and did his own thing, and that hadn't changed even today. It wasn't until he heard his mothers wailing that he froze where he was, lifting his head to look across the lake where the den was before he decided to move. He wasn't sure what was going on, but whatever it was sounded...bad. Was something happening to his mom?
He hurried his pace back around the lake until he was back on the other side and made his way towards the den. It didn't take him long to see his mother curled around what he thought was Venti's sleeping form. With furrowed brows, he approached with caution. He didn't know what death smelled like nor had he seen it. Of course to him, the prey that was killed to feed him didn't really come to mind as quite possibly being similar..."Momma? What's wrong?" |
