"Over here, this way!" She called over her shoulder, trotting at a nice clip. They had been tracking some spilled blood for a while now, although she couldn't quite identify the smell. Eris had her nose straight to the ground. There was decent cloud coverage, and without the bright light of the sun, it was difficult for her to make out shapes anyway. She would have had about the same field of vision if she had been trying to see where she was going.

Her nose bumped against a boulder and she circumnavigated the rock with some additional effort. It was close now, she could smell it! And hear it...? Eris pricked her ears, catching the faint sound of thrashing prey and a high-pitched keening noise coming from less than a few yards away.

Walking slowly now, she tracked the sounds to their source. There was a small animal on the ground in great distress. Eris carefully nosed the body - it was a ferret, and the poor thing was struggling to articulate any sort of noise beyond a gurgling keen. Unable to see the damage clearly, Eris sat by the creature. "I can't kill it - can't you hear the distress it's under?" She said to her brother, her eyes furrowed in concern. "Can you see what's wrong with it? Maybe I can help."

ooc the ferret's throat has a laceration - its vocal chords have been harmed, but not irreparably damaged <3 once healed up, it will only ever be able to speak at a whisper.

Lament was more than happy to let Eris take the lead, he just appreciated being in the company of his sister. He still struggled to recall memories of her in the time before his lost memory. Mostly, he got impressions, scents, and the feeling of comfort. He wished he could recall more, he knew he disappointed her by his loss of her in his memories.

The cloudy day was cool, with a gentle breeze that ruffled his amber coat, and offered them some relief from the heat of the day. For Eris, it meant a lack of sight, something he was reminded of as she bumped into a boulder. He was a few steps behind her, but he sought to catch up as she rounded the obstacle.

When they found the prey, there was no need for planning, the creature was too far gone to hear them and fight. He let Eris go to it first, keeping an eye on their surroundings in case any larger predators had been drawn by the cry of an easy meal.

When Eris took pity on their prey, the warrior turned his gaze back to her and approached, placing his paw on hers gently as he bent down to sniff the injured ferrat. “It might be a greater mercy to end its pain” Lament advised, through he hated to tear Eris from hope. “There is damage to its neck, heavy lacerations, i’m surprised it can breath at all” he explained to Eris, making no move to end its suffering, he would leave the choice to Eris. This was her hunt, and he would respect her decisions.

"Oh," she murmured, taken aback by Lament's description of the creature's wounds. They sounded awful, especially for a thing so small. "No... no, I can fix it," Eris said quickly. On her way through the prairie, she had scented yarrow and meadowsweet. A quick poultice may help ease the poor thing's pain until she could get it to somewhere with better options.

Without waiting for input from Lament, Eris set her nose to the ground and tracked the two herbs that she had mentioned. Luckily, they were relatively common to this area, and it didn't take too long to locate a good selection of both. Eris gathered it up and gnawed it into a poultice as she returned to her brother and the injured ferret. Upon her return, she rested the poultice on the ground nearby and set about cleaning the wound. She was careful with her tongue, and the creature didn't complain much. It writhed a bit in pain, which worried her more. "I won't hurt you, I promise," Eris whispered, applying the poultice after the wound had been cleaned.

The ferret was incredibly weak now, but she wasn't ready to give up. "Lament, could you carefully move it and set it on my shoulders?" Eris asked, turning in the direction of his scent. "Maybe we can get somewhere with better herbs... or, I have a few things I've collected back at the den," she murmured, pondering the situation. "What do you think?" She asked her brother. As if in response, the ferret gave a tiny squeak, the first positive noise she had heard. Eris' ears pricked and she smiled.

She spurned his advice, clearly determined to keep the creature alive. His paw twitched in a smile at her determination, but she was already too far gone to see it. She was back peddling the way they came, and he watched curiously at her dark, determined form. He took a seat beside the Ferret, guarding it both against any urge it might have to flee, or any smaller predators that might decide to grab it when they turned their backs.

He definitely thought killing it was the better option, but for as long as Eris decided it wasn’t a lost cause, he would protect it. There was little he wouldn’t do for his sisters.

His sister asked him to help her move the ferrat, and he pondered it for a moment before giving her a kiss on the forehead and telling her to wait a moment. With that he too vanished into their surroundings, only to return in moments with some flax and a hardy leaf. He bundled the ferret into the leaf, puncturing holes for the flax with one of his saber teeth, before he gently set the ferret on her shoulders, and ran the flax under her belly, securing him on her shoulders in a way that would restrict his movements and lesson his chances of hurting himself.

“Your the medic little one, I'll follow your lead” he told her as she asked for advice on the best thing to do. He was the warrior, and if the danger had been a predator, he would have taken charge and kept her safe, but this was her forte, and he wanted to give her the reigns.

It had been so long since she had spent a lot of time with Lament, she had genuinely forgotten how indulgent he was of her tendencies. He would see anything through to the end for her, and she was forever grateful for that. Lament was her brother and her most powerful ally and supporter. She loved him fiercely for it.

"Hmm... okay, I'm the medic," Eris repeated. Although she had fended for herself well these past few months, she was still used to leaning on her siblings. Now that they were back, she found herself falling into old habits. She could tell that Lament was encouraging her to be independent and make her own decisions, but it was still hard not to look over her shoulder and gauge his reaction.

As the ferret-sling was placed on her shoulders, Eris stood perfectly still. The creature didn't move much, but she figured that was for the best. Rest always seemed to cure more than she expected it would. "We should head to this small copse of willows that I skirted around a few weeks back," Eris stopped to describe it to Lament so that he might have a better idea where they were going. "It should be easy to find... it's unfortunately claimed by a pack. The scent is all around. If we skirt the border, we should be okay." Eris didn't sound confident, but she was strangely attached to the injured creature they'd found. She had a soft spot for all injured beings, regardless of species. Setting herself to tracking the scent, Eris set her nose to the ground and paced a large circle before she picked it up. Careful of her new passenger, Eris headed towards the weeping woods and homeland of the Kesali.
