summer gave its own troubles the world.

he had been busy trying to do what he could with what little he could find. the humid weather had all but destroyed the fresh summer plants that didn't do so well in the extreme heat. Holland would walk amongst the nook - his first visit here - and quietly nod to himself as he came across the plants. he would have enjoyed collecting some of the spring herbs should he have been here in the Boreas but since he arrived in the summer, his little cache was only just beginning. shameful. he needed to restock.

Holland had set out looking for parsley - good for coughing and digestive problems. since the summer gave allergies to some wolves, it was also good for asthma attacks. any cache needed parsley for various reasons and any healer worth their salt needed it too. unfortunately, if he found it, it'd be trouble keeping it. like stated, the heat wasn't kind to the herb. he'd have to store it in a cool location but seeing as he planned on living in the west... it was pretty damn hot there. it'd die quite easily.

and like he guessed, when he did find the parsley, it was wilted. Holland stood over the yellowed plant with a grim expression on his face. half ironic amusement and half irritability. he'd have to find some other plant to substitute but what? he was too focused on what he couldn't have that he failed to recall the names of what he could find in the heat. grumbling quietly, he'd recline and try to pick through the stock. hopefully, something was worth saving. but try as he might, the herb was of no use to him. nor anyone else for that matter.

wait. dandelion was common enough, right? and it was useful for digestion and anti-inflammatory... the young man's head rose, a look of hope across his features as he glanced around. it was, as said, common and easy to spot. he'd find it sooner or later. rising to all fours, he'd began nosing through the nook's various foliage, trying to find the yellow flowering plant to collect. from what he remembered it grew in moist, sunny areas. trying to locate a water source, the budding healer would swing his body and look.

While the mortal gad had not been able to establish a garden, his plants stores were looking quite plump. Dual toned gaze swept over the carefully prepared little piles, each one placed with care and much thought. He was forced to stop when his gaze stopped at a bit of wilted boccoli. The boy furrowed his brow and found his feet after seeing his store of dandelion was gone as well. Boccoli could be used as an anti-inflammatory, as well as a digestive aid. He wouldn’t be able to find anymore of the dak green plant this season. All of it would have gone to flower at this point. He’d need to find more dandelion to make up for it.

The later of the plants were common, however Thoth had cleared his little front yard of his a while ago. He would be forced to go father. He’d been meaning to stop at the stream as well, so he left his cave and made his way in that direction. His golden gilded form glinted in the sunlight as he slipped through the thin trunks of the redbud trees. Eventually, instead of arriving at the stream his tall form would halt at the sound of rustling in the forest.

Long thin ears perked as he lifted his head in search of the stranger. The scent was definitely wolf, there was no prey animal at the end of this trail. Possibly a healer looking for herbs as well. Cautiously the ivory Ithuriel stepped forward, gold and silver eyes in search of his company. ”Hello?” Thoth called out as his form slipped past a thick clump of tiny trees to reveal the chocolate furred wolf. He seemed to have caught him in mid search as well. ”Are you looking for something?” His head tilted curiously, gold marked tail swaying at his ankles.

There was a voice that he ignored right away. Ever one to be absorbed in his work, Holland rooted around the ground without a word to the other being that approached him. Murmuring herbal usages and their potency under his breath, along with a few words in his native tongue, he looked to be quite a madman. At least his fur was clean, and his eyes were sharp, else others would think that strongly. Only when the stranger piped up again did he lift his pale gaze from the ground to look at the ivory-gold form of the other. There was nothing outstanding about them. A distinctive male scent with some foreign qualities but that was all it was to him. ”Yes.” he uttered, deep yet quiet tones reaching the other regardless of volume. He kept his voice civil despite not giving much information away. Or at all.

His eyes went to the ground again. The herbal scent of the other wolf was enough to tell the young man that this was a healer or associated with foliage in some way. It was only because of that did he go on, else he felt it fruitless to talk about plants with someone who didn’t care for them. ”Dandelion” Holland added in, still not looking at the other being. He wasn’t exactly great with social situations and wasn’t even going to suggest they look together. It really wasn’t this guy’s problem what Holland did or didn’t do. It wasn’t Holland’s problem what the other did or didn’t do. They were but strangers, passing during this humid summer weather. ”though considering the season, I’d like to collect some marigold too.” it was useful with insect bites, and boy were they out in full force already.

But it was also very good for burns, cuts and other such things that were bleeding. Common usage and easily found. An ear flickered idly as his eyes lifted once more. ”Do you, uh… know where some are?”

Thoth did not possess the superiority gene that a few members of his family might have. The boy was too humble for that and wouldn’t take offense to being near ignored as he stumbled upon the stranger in the wood. The Ithuriel god was faced with the pale eyed man, his commoner’s build was nothing of note, but he shared the same deeper tones of Nephthys pelt. The mortal god watched the stranger return to his searching, only given a simple yes in return. The boy almost turned to go, his help didn’t seem to be wanted. However, the stranger mentioned dandelion. Now curious more than anything Thoth lingered, dual toned precious metal gaze trained on the gatherer.

Dandelion and marigold it seemed. The boy’s golden features tilted as the stranger finally looked back up as he asked where they might be found. ”If you’re using it to reduce inflammation it’ll be easier to find than violets.” He started, reducing the distance between them so it might be easier to speak. ”Dandelions aren’t blooming right now, so you’ll have to look for the leaf pattern.” Thoth looked around in the clearing, the short grass liking to hide his quarry. ”Ah, here.” He mumbled before trotting a few paces to the long serrated lobed leaves. He displayed the leaf with his paw. ”Marigold may be more challenging. I know I’ve seen them in this area before.” He lifted his head and looked around, silver and gold gaze unable to locate the flowers in their near vicinity.

Holland was mildly impressed.

Which was saying a lot since he rarely got impressed with other people. The other wolf seemed to have a head for healing, causing him to focus entirely on him as he spoke. “leaf pattern…” he’d utter, more to himself than anything. It helped that the roots were more useful than the bulb itself, but he couldn’t exactly recall what a dandelion’s leaves looked like. It was one of those widespread flowers that even he didn’t pay much attention to. “thank you” he nodded to the young man. He didn’t need to tell him he had been looking for parsley though; it seemed the heat had killed every piece of it off. “I was trying to find something that was useful for asthma and coughing originally.” He’d shake his head with a sigh.

When it came to discussing plants, he was more certain of himself. More confident. Watching as the man closed the distance, he’d bend his head to look at the greenery. Marshmallow would be a good substitute but I don’t think it grows here” he hadn’t picked up the scent nor seen any flowering plants. “then again… it grows only in wet places” which this place had none of. Especially with the summer’s sun beating down on them. Raising a brow, he’d look at the exotic wolf again before continuing. “do you have a recommendation?” Holland didn’t have much of an ego when it came to healing knowledge. If he found someone that knew what they were talking about, he’d talk and ask questions better than speaking about hunting or fighting.

Thoth was a natural teacher, he enjoyed sharing knowledge as much as gaining. The boy nodded at the stranger’s thanks, his gold tipped ears perking as the man went on to speak about his original intentions. Thoth didn’t have as much experience with issues of the lungs. His main teacher had been older and taught him a lot, however with her also being his main patient he was more adept with arthritis remedies, pain medications, and sleep aides. Not that he hadn’t been taught a good all around understanding, but he was still very young.

”I’m sorry. I don’t.” Thoth offered regretfully, ”However, I know if you head southeast there is a place with a waterfall that connects to a huge mangrove. I know you’ll find marshmallow there.” Speaking of, the boy would likely need to make a trip to find some for himself. It would certainly be a good herb to keep on hand. His gold and silver gaze took to the southeast and he mentally prepared a trip that direction for himself and Seshet.

"is that right?" he tried to hide his disappointment, especially when the other healer did mention where he'd find marshmallow. it'd be stupid to think he could around here. the mangrove sounded an ideal place, full of lush herbs and plants to be found. and water too. he needed to quench his thirst. "damn heat." Holland uttered, loud enough for the other to hear him. he couldn't store herbs for long unless he found a cool area. they'd wilt off the plant easy.

"I'll head there, thanks" he added, having too poor of social skills to realize that the stranger would make the trip there too. without anything collected, he was free to wander further from Lirim. he'd return with a bounty or die trying. kidding. he wasn't going to die for a bunch of plants. they wouldn't die for him. without another word, he left in the direction of the stranger's directions. he'd find this mangrove eventually. he'd find marshmallow, and parsley... and all sorts of things.

just you wait.
