Valkyrie was eager to test the power of bear mask. Believing it to be a potent talisman and wary of its ferocity, she refused to use it against any of her band members. That meant even though she felt its strength it was still untried in battle and she wasn't entirely sure what she was getting into when she wore it. Of course that needed to change.

 

She had decided to test it out on someone without a connection to Hjarrandi. In preparation of the fight she had fasted and prayed for days until this morning when she had opened her eyes and felt her readiness.

Valkyrie had ventured far from Hjarrandi in search of a someone to test herself with. This was both for her members' safety and to put distance between herself and their spoils should she not be in the right mindset to return home without first making sure no one was following her. The only exception to her 'no band members' rule was Inga, whose presence wasn't quite welcome given her mindset, but needed all the same.

Having been snapped at for trying to ride on her master's back, Inga now trailed warily behind Valkyrie.

After reaching a clearing Valkyrie stopped and threw back her head. Her demand was simple: she wanted a proper fight. If it was meant to be someone would answer her.

Ashmedai couldn't say no to the prospect of a nice spar. It had been a while since he had been able to really go and test his skills against another wolf. Of course he suited up, leaving the shirt at home, and headed in the direction of the call. When he was there, he recognized the woman before him. Wasn't she that girl he had met a while back when he was with the pirates?

"Oh hey Versailles- er, hang on... Volkan? No wait... That's the mountain. Were you named after the mountain? Nah... uhh.. Vvvv... Vvvv.... Veronica? OH! Valkyrie." Yup. That was it for sure. Ash cracked an awkward smile. They hadn't really met face to face a lot, so how was he expected to remember her name exactly? "Ahh, yeah, anyway, it's King. Nice so see you're still... alive."

He was kind of glad she wasn't there during the raid, not that he thought she ran with that group particularly, but- yeah- glad to see she wasn't in pieces. "So, just a spar? You ready?"

Ash wasted no time getting himself ready. With no real method to his madness, he launched at the woman whenever she looked like she was ready too. He figured head-on was always a pretty good tactic so he did that. Run, feign, right (spiked) shoulder to the chest. He'd go for a bite, but he didn't wanna end up ramming his own face with his shoulder spikes. Y'know, see how she reacted before going for the big guns.

No sooner had the call left her lips Valkyrie filled with restless energy. She was never one to be jittery before a fight - and this certainly wasn't that - but she couldn't have stood still if she'd wanted to. If asked to she wouldn't have been able to explain the feeling, either. She wasn't a bear, but she was one. Valkyrie felt as though the ghost of the bear blanketed her. She felt it like a promise of what she would be when she finally put the mask on.

 

Someone approached and Valkyrie's head snapped around to look at him. The gesture was feral and on edge, and if she recognized him it didn't show. After some effort he said her name, but it sounded like it was said across a great distance.  

She licked her lips in anticipation and managed to answer him with a stiff nod, but words escaped her. It was time. She pressed the mask down on top of her head and with Inga's help fastened the lower mandible to the upper piece so that it hung in front of her throat. Valkyrie took a deep breath and tasted the power of the bear.

Ashmedai charged her. The action enraged Valkyrie and she kicked forward with a guttural roar. He feinted and tried to ram the spikes on his right shoulder into her chest but Valkyrie was ready. She dodged to her right and threw up her forelegs in the hopes of wrapping them around his neck and digging her claws into his scruff. His chest was wider that hers so unless he moved again, with them lined up center to center again the spikes missed their target. (counter, sorry!)

To complete her attack Valkyrie tipped her head to her left and tried to bite into Ashmedai's throat just below his jawline. Her goal was to grab and shake with everything she had. Ashmedai may have thought he was getting a simple spar but the bear wanted to kill him.

Ah great, she looked more unhinged than the last time they'd met. Last time she was angry with a side of 'I might killl you later,' but now she was just full on murder time mode. Oh well, happened to the best of them.

As he charged, Valk dodged to her right. They would still collide with some amount of force, but Ash was too close to correct much now. Instead, he continued the rotation of his right shoulder jab, throwing his head down and to his left while swinging his hips sideways to make a 'T' with Valk. He attempted to drag his spikes across her chest as she threw her paws up in an attempt to grab him. (Is this a counter counter?) Still, since he was curling away from her, he didn't have many other resourced to attack with other than his shoulders and legs, so he just continued to basically chase his tail.

Her bite landed just in front of where the harness met the right side of his neck. She shook, shaking the loose skin around his neck with enough force to not only slash it up a good bit, but to have the skin flop all the way to his face. Annoying, hurtful, but not deadly.

The spikes of his harness drug across her chest but Valkyrie felt nothing. Caring little for the limits of her shoulders Valkyrie continued to try to grab him by the neck no matter how awkward the angle. Her goal was the same; grab hold and dig her claws in.

Her teeth landed and after shaking her head she tried to use her grip as an anchor point for her next attack. With Ashmedai spinning Valkyrie allowed herself to be pulled off her paws and drug along beside him. She rolled onto her rump, brought her hind legs up and attempted to kick at the right side of Ashmedai's chest. Like a cat she intended to bunny kick him with claws extended. The length of her legs would hopefully allow her to claw him from chest to upper belly as he drug her around.

Okay, Ash was starting to think this bitch was a little crazier than a spar. Like Ash didn't want her to go easy, but there was a difference between sparring and trying to maul someone. "Alright, damn, let go bit- before you fucking tear our a chunk!" Eventually Ash spun and shook enough to throw her off, but the look in her eye said she wasn't done. Maybe that was just Ash's imagination, though. A thought occurred to the large male: maybe she was rabid.

"Alright, damn... Fuck, just..." Ashmedai tried to assess whether or not he needed to escalate this fight further. It wasn't worth it. There wasn't anything to be won. "Next time, if you wanna maul someone, just ask before hand rather than trying to call a spar. Damn..." Woman's sketch. Ash left, keeping his side turned so that he could see her if she decided to follow. Great, now he needed to get checked for sicknesses. So much for a fun spar.

 

With his blood on her tongue Valkyrie had never felt so alive and it took a great deal of effort to force herself to let go of him. But she did somehow and then he was up and talking again. Valkyrie watched, her expression nothing short of predatory, as he assessed his injuries.

He was embarrassed, that much was clear to her, and perhaps feeling a bit outclassed having tasted the fury of the berserker. This thought satisfied her. The bear was strong. She'd chosen her 'skin' well.

A flicker of amusement softened her hungry stare as she watched him retreat. She would take one final clawed swing at him before allowing him the escape he seemed so desperate for. "I called for a proper fight. If that is not for you, King, perhaps you should fight children instead."
