Seeking a bit more privacy and a less crowded spot Éldi worked his way toward the other side of the lake, Kaler right behind him while Askr danced through the sky like death. The raven flitted like a starless patch of sky, gulping down fireflies. Neither Éldi nor Kaler were interested in dining on bugs, fish was on the menu.
With a spot picked out, Éldi slowly waded into the water to begin his wait while Kaler did the same. They'd joked about having a little competition but in the end all the fish would be shared and hopefully it would be a hearty meal. First though they needed to catch something. Éldi stared at the water and waited. The fireflies seemed to cling closer to the land which was a blessing for them as the fish would swim farther in reach. Spying what looked like a good sized fish Éldi's head darted down, piercing through the water's surface.
Fished!

Today Tyrian had learned something new. He had the paws of a cat, the teeth of a freak, and apparently the swimming ability of a semi disabled dolphin. He was terrible and awkward compared to basically any water animal, but surprisingly decent for a land one? It was a strange turn of events and he was not complaining.
Currently he was cruising around underwater snapping at any fish that got too close. He wasn't paying much attention to what was happening above water, and his time up there was limited to catching his breath and looking for fish to dive at. Out of the corner of his eye he could see something brown, but the water was littered with driftwood and he dismissed it as yet another piece.
The fish he was after darted away from him and towards that gnarled piece of driftwood (it's Eldi's back legs) so naturally Tyrian dived after it. It wasn't going to get away from him that easy. If the fish was going to swim under it then he was too!

Éldi jerked his head up but was disappointed to discover that he'd only caught a little bluegill. Next to him he could hear Kaler laughing at his pathetic catch. He scowled but food was food and he added the little fish to his pile, pausing for a moment when he thought he saw movement in the brush behind him. It was probably just more wolves. Everyone seemed to be out fishing tonight. Éldi returned to the water and made another attempt at catching a fish. He was determined to catch up with Kaler but he couldn't help but find himself wishing he had claws. Fishing would be so much easier if he just had a good set of retractable-
"WHAT THE!"
Éldi yelped, springing so high his legs almost completely left the water as he felt something large brush past his hind legs. Spying a large dark shape he dove after it, aiming towards the back of the creatures head. He'd bet anything it was a beaver, a finer meal than a tiny little fish. If he could just catch the little devil.

Tyrian felt something squiggling between his teeth and knew he'd been successful. He kicked off of the bottom and his head broke the surface just long enough for him to blindly fling his catch onto the bank. It had just left his lips when he became aware of a large dark blob dropping down on him. In the brief snap before contact was made Tyrian made out a face and realized it was wolf, but no features jumped out at him and it wasn't immediately obvious that one of his siblings wasn't pouncing on him.
More dismayed by the belief he was about to miss a fish than perturbed by getting pounced on, Tyrian made a passing swipe after a flash of silver by one of his paws just as Eldi crashed down on his rump. Thankfully for Tyrian when he kicked off the bottom and flung the fish onto the bank he displaced Eldi's attack.
Of course he got dunked. There was no escaping that. Tyrian had just enough time to take a gulp of air before his head went under. The boy tried to flip over underwater, intent on both catching his fish and kicking his attacker in the chest. That would teach 'em!

Éldi grumbled as he lost not only his fish in this strange encounter but the dark shape that he thought might be a beaver also slipped through his grasp. Deciding to recalculate he leapt to the shore, unknowingly out of the way of whatever it was in the water. Kaler was laughing. "You are incredibly bad at this! Behold this mighty hunter!" Scowling, Éldi moved down the bank to try his luck away from the beaver or whatever it was. Clearly it was scaring all the fish and make his task that much more difficult, though Kaler, courtesy of his claws, didn't seem to be having much trouble at all. Slipping into a quieter cover with his measly little blue gill Éldi sought to start again, a gleam of silver catching his attention as he dove his head down once more.
Meanwhile Kaler shimmed onto a log that was resting partway in the water, his ears cocked forward as he watched the dark shape, hoping it would come close enough for him to bop on the head. He wanted to know what it was.

He couldn't tell if his kick landed but it was the thought that counted. Besides, his attacker seemed to have taken the hint. With fish in tow Tyrian surfaced. He blinked blearily to clear his eyes and then, fully expecting to see Alarr, Sparrow or maybe Zahir, glared after whoever had jumped on him.
His glare quickly shifted to surprise as he realized that was not someone he knew. Not only that, it was a cat. "Oh..." Did he apologize for kicking at the cat or just accept the mauling that was surely coming his way? Maybe he could play it cool...
That's what he was going to try to do, anyway. Perhaps if he was fast and goofy enough the cat wouldn't eat him. "Sorry about that- oh look a SCHOOL!" He pointed and then dove into the water. In truth he had no idea if there were any fish there, but maybe if he dove in and snapped around...and then just kinda...kept on swimming the cat would forget about him.

Finally! It seemed the move was just want he needed. With a largemouth bass in between his jaws, the viking ambled back to shore and added it to his small collection that he certainly hoped to grow. He was about to make a snappy comment to Kaler when he noticed the cat staring off at the thing that had been in the water. It wasn't a beaver, it was a pup! Kaler grinned. "Don't worry, it was my idiot companion that you-"
The pup yelled about a school and Kaler dove in. Seeing that the school was headed in his direction Éldi took aim and dove in to join the other two, seeking to seize another fish in his jaws.

He wasn't sure how to handle the cat situation, so Tyrian continued to swim underwater. Any time a fish swam by he'd flail after it, thinking he could maybe hook it with his claws and then stuff it into his mouth. It was a lot harder than it sounded. He may have been a decent underwater swimmer, but Tyrian was no match for the fish.
Close call after close call saw each slimy, scaly fish squirt through his toes to freedom. If he'd had any air to spare Tyrian would have been tempted to grumble each time he missed, but he didn't so he settled for paddling faster.

Éldi dove his head into the quickly fracturing school once more, seeking to get as many fish as he could before they departed. Kaler trudged out of the water and settled down to start eating. Éldi watched the cat for a moment before turning his attention back to the strange little pup. "You're quite the swimmer I see." He aimed to speak when the pup was above water but even then he wasn't sure if the other would hear him or not. Still he figured he could try striking up a bit of conversation. Didn't seem there were any parents to rage about a stranger talking to the youth.

When he could hold his breath no longer, Tyrian surfaced. Clutched in the claws of one paw was a writhing trout. With what was becoming expert aim, the boy tossed his catch onto the bank with the rest of his slowly growing haul. He was quite pleased with what he had so far but nowhere near satisfied. He would fish until he ran out of time.
A wolf was nearby with the cat he thought he’d kicked and Tyrian’s thoughts immediately went to himself and Zahir. Perhaps they were a pair too.
He beamed at Eldi then said, “Thanks!” Before lifting a clawed paw from the water and flexing to show off the mutation. “These guys come in pretty handy in the water.” Speaking of handiness, Tyrian spied a fish and very quickly swiped his raised paw down after it.

Éldi marveled at the boys paws a grin on his face. "I'll bet they do! A friend of mine, Valkyrie, has a nice set herself and let me tell you are they rough to battle against." He was certain a few of his scars were from sparring with her though as he got older it was getting harder to keep track. A sudden flash of movement caught his attention as a large carp's head popped up above the water to snatch a firefly before disappearing back down. Éldi quietly waded into the water and remained still, hoping the fish might come closer to shore for more bugs. When he thought it was near he dove his head down trying to get at it. He wanted it more for its size though personally he thought carp was a decent tasting fish if not extra work.

Tyrian brightened noticeably upon hearing that he had a friend with claws. That was so cool! He knew several creatures with long canines, but he was the only wolf he knew with claws. "Really? I've never met anyone with claws like me. Well, besides Zahir but she doesn't count because she's a cat."
He swiped at another fish and then added, "My name's Tyrian, by the way. Tyrian Imperialis." His first swipe missed so he tried again the next time one came close. His claws carved trails of slime off its back, but it escaped his grasp largely unharmed. He frowned into the water and then tried again.

ooc: Brandr's so close, hope this little thread bomb is ok!
Oh no he was going to lose it! Brandr sprang down the bank chasing a fish that he had been so close to grabbing but the quick creature had slipped down stream. It would've gotten farther out into the depths of the water if he hadn't managed to snag it with his paws. However, when he tried to twist it and flip it back onto land he sent it farther down the shore line and now the pair were practically dancing. He knew he probably should give up and try again but he felt he was so close. If he could just get the slimy creature in his jaws! Coiling his legs completely unaware of the spectacle he was making he dove forward to try and catch that dastardly fish!

"Your claws are very special, there's no doubt about that." At times he was quite jealous of Valkyrie's claws. "Nice to meet you Tyrian, may name is Éldi Rudolfrson." He moved further into the water to try his luck again at fishing. Éldi held still, this time watching the movement of the fireflies. He fixed his eyes where one seemed to be hovering low over the water. It was no surprise that a fish was rocketing up toward the fly and at this moment Éldi sprang trying to get at the fish. When he returned to shore an odd and very large golden man flailed down the shore line after a fish. Éldi let out a laugh. "Looks like someone could use your claws."
