Éldi selected another fishing spot, following Kaler to another nice-looking cove. He felt it would be good to switch up his spot now and then. The more he splashed around and made a mess the more likely it was that he was going to scare the fish away for longer than he'd like. He moved a piece of deer hide that held the fish he'd caught so far. He hoped to add to the pile. Whatever Kaler had caught the cat opted to eat decided the prospect of winning a competition wasn't worth going hungry for any amount of time. He now lay on the shore, cleaning the blood off his whiskers while Éldi waded into the water and dove after a fish that had caught his eye.

Theta had decided to try fishing, she hadn’t tried it before so she might as well do it now. Gradually entering the water she kept an eye out for fish, the water wasn’t completely clear, but she could see shapes moving under it. Spotting a wolf and a bobcat in the area Theta was on guard. She didn’t recognize the scent of the male wolf and seeing as he was bigger than her she wasn’t sure she wanted to pick a fight just yet.

Settling into a spot a fair distance away from the other wolf Theta began to fish. Spotting one of the shapes move under the water she went down to catch it with her mouth. Flinging water off her head as she came back up.

Another flash caught his attention and Éldi dove once more, intent on seizing another fish in his jaws. When he came up he noticed a girl fishing not far from him. He paused and glanced around, expecting to see her parents but it seemed she was on her own. As long as she didn't need babysitting he didn't mind the extra company. Should he introduce himself? Or would that be weird? Ah hell, he might as well try to make conversation. The wait could get boring and Kaler was to busy snoozing on the shore. "Evening, name's Éldi. You do much fishing before this?"

Finding nothing in her mouth Theta wished for another fish to appear so she could go right back down again. Before that could happen though she heard the wolf that was nearby starting to make conversation. He asked if she had done much fishing before hand and she felt that her lack of caught fish so far had made that obvious. “Can’t you see? There’s a mountain of fish behind me.” It had been a while since Theta had been able to be sarcastic, it felt good.

She felt a fish rub against her leg and she dashed down to grab it. Coming back up to eye the other wolf.

Éldi chuckled at the girl's sarcasm. If there was one thing he could appreciate it was a healthy level of moxie. Reminded him a bit of himself at that age. He'd been born big and rotund and that made him a prime target for teasing. "Well, like with all things it takes practice. I'd be happy to pass on what I know but I'm afraid its not too much. My specialties lie more in deer though I'd like to get better at catching fish." Speaking of, he felt if he wanted something a bit bigger he was going to need to wade out a bit farther and so he did til the water was midway up his chest. Lowering his head he held perfectly still and then when the opportune moment presented itself his head dove down to snatch at a fish.

Hunting didn’t interest Theta that much so the adult’s offer of teaching her how to fish didn’t catch her attention all that well. She hunted for food, it was too much activity for not that much pay off. It wasn’t worth doing it for fun. “Thanks for the offer, but I’ll only be fishing for this event.” She had to make sure she was at least polite, it would do her no good to scare off wolves who weren’t terrible off the bat.

Spotting one of the darkened shapes in the water move past she went under the water to grab it.

Éldi nodded, not the least bit put off by her answer. They all had their interests. "Out of curiosity what skills do you specialize in?" Maybe they'd have something in common. He listened attentively until movement out of the corner of his eye caught his attention. Well, well, what did he have here? A rabbit was moving toward the water for a drink, assuming the wolves were too occupied to notice it. He carefully backed up toward the shore until the water was only ankle deep. He never looked at the rabbit directly but still kept it in his periphery. With a little luck it would drop its guard and he could get a tastier and warmer meal.

Theta had never been asked what skills she was interested in meaning she hadn’t put much thought into it. She liked fighting, but she couldn’t think of much else. Was she supposed to be interested in more things? Healing seemed boring, hunting wasn’t interesting enough, and everything else felt way above her. “I like fighting, I’m not that into much else.” She might look into leading a pack one day like her father had, but that day would be far in the future.

Yet another unlucky fish swam by her prompting her to go after it, snapping it up in her jaws.
