Aurielle Adravendi

She padded slowly through the dunes, eyes scanning the rolling gold of sand around her. She spotted the smudge of green in the distance, her landmark, and adjusted her course, tail and mane buffeting on a gust of breeze. The desert that edged her territories were as unforgiving in the cooling seasons as her own body was in its season.

She’d taken once more to dousing the vanilla and peppermint oil in her fur, blocking her natural calling card from the noses of males and others as best she could. It wasn’t fool-proof, but it sufficed. Ignoring her own cycle was rougher, but she managed. The outcome was a ceaseless restlessness, a need to keep moving, and a difficulty sleeping.

The result was that she logged a lot of hours patrolling, added to the routine she already had. Her mind never shut up these days, and she longed greatly for the relief of winter’s chill. Soon she would have to lead a bear hunt, and the distraction of her season was undesirable.

Her paws graced cool grass, yellowed with Autumn’s touch and the now nightly freezes. Winter was eager to come, and she wondered if they would see snow before the season even truly arrived.

The basin rippled and rustled under the fall breezes as the snow-white, shimmering wolf strode easily through the grasses, still scanning the land around her. The basin ended in sea a long, long trek to the west, and she pondered making the journey to the view—she could still easily be home before midnight if she hurried.

She gave in easily, and it was many hours later that found her on her way back, under a full moon, padding lightly over moonstruck desert dunes.

Some of her frustrations had eased—she’d run a great deal of the way, using up much of her excess energy. Perhaps in the long run, it would be a problem.

Actually, very abruptly, it was a big problem—the notion of trouble flashed through her mind as she suddenly danced ahead with a snarl and spun to face the hulking, striped form that had leapt from a shadow in the dunes, where the curve of the hill hid the face from the touch of the moon.

Aurielle was aware of a black form racing across the sands from the other direction, fury caterwauling in a mountain lion’s challenge, but she was far too involved with the tiger that had chosen to attack the Spirit of Valhalla while out on her own.

She barely hesitated in her attack, falling silent as she snaked forward and slashed at the huge cat as he—no she – bounded forward with powerful strides. Her canines ripped into the paw that swiped for her face, and as she clamped down, the force of the cat’s power staggered her from her paws, sending silver-touched gold sand spraying along with the blood from the cat.

Aelloshir hit the tiger in the back with a leap, hind claws ripping into the beast’s shoulders and neck, teeth sinking off-target into the cat’s loin. The pain shook the tigress into an unshakable fury as she ripped her paw free of the wolf’s canines.

Aurielle snarled a challenge as she prepared to launch in at the cat again.

At first glance, Aurielle's coat is pure white.. Her fur has an iridescent quality (like moonstones) where the fur shimmers different colors under various angles of light: in this case, the colors shown by rainbow moonstones. Not one hair on her hide is a solid unnatural color, but, ya know, it's really hard to convey that in still art :P
Aurielle's English is heavily laden with an Irish, Swedish mixed accent.
Her family is allowed to crash all her threads, Private and Open.
As of Autumn Year 14, Aurielle glows with a bright blue-white bio-luminescence in her fur, and bears a marking over her left eye - see profile and reference.

Rogdar had been relaxing pleasantly, basking in the hot sun while he slept on a sun beaten rock. At his side his companion splayed out in equal repose, far too content to be moved. He gave a hungry yawn then moved to scratch behind his ear with his back paw, his dark fur usually warm to the touch was now hot with desert heat and he was becoming thirsty.

He scanned the horizon, searching for any sign of water, but his olive eyes fell on something…strange. A ripple of white danced before his eyes, moving like silk around something barely visible from a distance, while a black form seemed to weave and bound around it. He lifted his ears and heard the resounding roars and growls of a wolf fighting something far larger than itself.

“Eura!” He called, and the squirrel monkey lifted her head with an irate chitter. “Eura we have to go, someone might need our help.” He told his companion only to have her blow a raspberry and settle her head back down. With an impatient growl Rogdar tucked his nose under her body and charged, forcing her to cling to his fur while he tore across the desert toward the shimmer of pearlescent white.

He had little time to take in the woman’s appearance, far too concerned with what he realized was a fully grown female tiger. While she and her companion battled the cat Rogdar dove in for the tiger’s tail, hoping to distract it enough to give the white woman the time she needed to escape, assuming of course that was her intention.

The tiger wheeled on its back paws and swiped for the dark wolf, who danced backwards as the cat gave a furious roar at his retreating form. He darted in a wide circle around the tiger, barking and snarling to keep her attention on him

“What are you waiting for? Run!” He barked at the woman dashing toward the cat before pulling away at the last second, narrowly avoiding a swipe from her deadly paws as she roared her fury at him.

Aurielle Adravendi

The shimmering white wolf wasn’t aware at first of the incoming wolf that suddenly swooped in to antagonize her opponent—in fact, it was only when the tigress suddenly swung around to swipe at the other pestilential canine that Aurielle realized she had unexpected backup. The swipe at another wolf, though, triggered something.

A Queen’s Rage is a frigid, feral thing. The look in the Spirit’s eyes shifted from pique to something deep and chilling, chilling enough to give the impression that the desert night air had lost all warmth as she disregarded the male’s shout and arrowed in at the Tigress’ hind quarters.

Her head snaked out, canines flashing in a silent, near-expressionless snarl as she slashed for the cat’s achilles, scoring a ragged double furrow that, while not fully laming the cat, gave her a bad pain and limp nonetheless. Aurielle swayed back as the tigress, beset upon at both ends, squalled so loudly the sand shook beneath their paws, whipping back to face the white wolf who held death in her eyes.

The Spirit ducked a wild swipe filled with claws and lashed out with her canines again, lunging forward to rake her teeth over the cat’s face before dancing back again—not quite fast enough to miss the wallop from the other paw as another earth-shaking roar of pain escaped the cat, and blood spattered from an eye that had been gouged—the left, effectively blinding the cat to attacks from that side.

She wasn’t at an angle where the big cat could sink her claws more than a few scratches in at the ribs, but the bruising would be immense come morning, or perhaps even by the time she reached her own borders. Aurielle dismissed the throbbing burn and the crimson that tinged her coat. This cat had dared to attack her and another wolf, unprovoked. And she would have the beast’s hide in her den come morning.

It's a mountain lion?!

It seems the tiger isn't the only thing out of place in these lands. A mountain lion, thin from spending time in the rough terrain joins the fray! Is he here to attack the wolves or the other cat in his territory? (Up to the players!)

Where we will

Rogdar looked from the tiger to the girl as she refused to run from the potential threat, then his eyes widened as a new challenger entered the fray; a mountain lion prowled up to them from the moon touched cliffs and Rogdar felt the fur on his neck stand on end. He let go of the tiger and charged for the second cat, teeth bared, eyes narrowed, tail tucked, and ears pinned, all the signs of a defensive wolf ready to fight.

He threw himself at the second cat just as it pounced for the strange woman and landed all four of his paws directly on the cat’s chest before he pushed away, sending the cat hurtling into the ground. Rogdar landed neatly and instantly dropped into a defensive position, the fur on his back rising as he took a step closer to his still opponent. The cat rose slowly and hissed at him, brandishing its fangs and swiping at the air between them. In a flash Rogdar reached forward and snatched the cat’s paw in his jaws while it shrieked and struck at his face with its free paw. Rogdar held on for dear life, tugging back and shaking his head while fur and blood flew from his face and jaws.

The shimmering white Spirit danced like a storm as she ducked and wove beneath the furious swipes of the massive she-tiger, slashing and snapping her jaws shut on anything that came too close to her face. The unexpected combatant that the strange man intercepted was acknowledged with a flick of her ear.

She was busy with the tigress, and she could hear the scuffle behind her. Aelloshir swept in for the tigress, aiming for her shoulder, but the Spirit spoke firmly, jerking her head toward her flank as she ducked beneath a swiping paw.

“Help him, I’ve got this one under control.”

Aelloshir glared at her but growled and leapt into the fray with Rodgar, slamming into his fellow cougar with his full might. He was well-fed and sleek from his life among wolves, and well-muscled from keeping up on his own training, and the other male staggered heavily, falling to one shoulder and screeching as the black cat’s jaws slammed shut on the other.

Meanwhile Aurielle threw herself forward, under the tigress’ next swipes and opened her jaws wide, sinking her upper canines into the huge cat’s creamy colored throat to the hilt and giving her head a violent shake as blood leaked around her canines into her mouth, most of it stoppered by the long fangs.

It was a decisive killing blow, and the Spirit wrenched free, releasing the spray and darting free of the tiger’s range. She felt a sting of claws as the tigress slapped a last defiant blow onto the white haunch of the woman that had bested her.

As Aurielle whirled, she set her defenses and leapt forward to join Rodgar and Aelloshir, crashing full tilt into the feral mountain cat’s other side, opposite of Loshir where he ripped into the cat’s ribs with his claws.

She looked every bit the warrior queen, pristine white coat doused in blood from her latest conquest and still wearing that frigid look in her eyes as she slashed for the cat’s flank with bloodied canines.

He backed away as the mountain lion tackled its brother, then looked back at the woman, horrified by what he saw. The tiger was a noble creature and she had all but bathed in its blood. He saw her round on the battling cats and immediately jumped in her path. “WAIT!” He cried. “Don’t kill it! It’s weak, it’s hungry!” He begged, his fur bristling with uncertainty “It… It wouldn’t be fair.” He said, hoping to play to the stranger’s vanity.

Behind him he heard the cat scream with agony and felt his heart leap into his chest. “Call off your companion.” He pleaded still crouched and fearful that she might instead choose to take her aggression out on him.

The mountain lion had the sense to submit, especially as Aelloshir growled something in the Mountain cat tongue that registered in the male’s eyes. Even as Rodgar pleaded for the cat’s life, he flopped onto his side, showing his belly in a manner that the wolves would recognize as an admittance of defeat.

The chill was still in the woman’s eyes, but at the signal the male gave, her attacks ceased and she stepped away, eyes boring into the feline’s tawny eyes as she stated simply, “Do not deign to attack one of my kind again, Mountain Cat. If you need food, there is a kill to the east. Aelloshir will lead you. If you wait at the Borders of Valhalla, when I return, I will tend your wounds.”

It had been what had kept Aelloshir from scouting ahead, bringing down a buck. The cat rolled to his paws, nodding as he limped painfully after the inky black companion who reluctantly led the feline away.

She was still for several moments before she drew in a deep breath and let it out before she turned to the male who had helped her fend off a tiger. Looking at him, she couldn’t help but find something familiar in the man. Her eyes squinted slightly as she studied him, a frown puckering her brow.

Sadness twinged in her chest as she noted the similarities, in his scent and his appearance, and made the hesitant connection. Was he related to Amos? The chill faded from her eyes, leaving the natural vibrance of sapphire and sky behind as she asked, almost hesitantly, “Would… you happen to know an Amos Allentide?”

It was an odd question to ask directly after a battle, but she turned and began digging in the sand, close to the fallen tiger’s body. Clearly, she didn’t intend to chat idly, or leave the cat to the scavengers. Skinning would happen—the pelt was too useful to leave, the teeth a valuable trading item. To be honest, if she’d had the means to transport a tiger carcass, she’d be trying to haul it home, every part of it being used in some way to benefit her pack. Its death to her was a removal of a threat to her pack.

Perhaps the heat in the sand would preserve the meat somehow, and she could return.

“Aye, I should.” He responded. “He was my brother, though I haven’t spoken to him since our father died.” He responded, still warry of the girl with the bloodstained pelt as she worked open the cat and began skinning it. He felt his heart drop, watching the poor creature be gutted like prey. The tiger was a creature of power and strength and she had killed it as if it were nothing. He could feel part of his soul drop away as she watched her work on the beast, aching to see the powerful cat so broken.

“Did you know him? Amos?” He asked, trying to keep his mind off the tiger and focus on something- anything- else. Obviously she had known him if she was asking but he still felt compelled to ask his own question.

Aurielle Adravendi

Aurielle’s head came up, whipping around to stare at Rodgar as he said he was Amos’ brother. There was unmistakable hope in her eyes that faded as he said he hadn’t seen Amos since their father’s death.

She didn’t miss his reluctance to look at the tigress, and she understood—perhaps he was more inclined toward peace. However, she knew that the cat had attacked with intent to kill her. To hunt her. The huge cat would not have stopped until one of them died.

At Rodgar’s question, she sighed, rolling the hide and pawing the last of the sand into place over the fresh grave. It was pointless to mark the resting place—the sand was ever-shifting and would erase the evidence of this battle in a matter of hours.

“He’s… he was my best friend. But I haven’t seen him in a long time, now. At this point, all I can do is hope he’s alive and will come back someday. But I do miss him.”

Her eyes met his and she said bluntly, “I can tell you aren’t comfortable with my killing of the tigress. Believe me, if I had the option, I would have let her live. But I knew she would not back down, and I will not die out here and leave my pack leaderless. Should I waste her? Let her rot? This way, she will at least live on in some way. Whatever you must be thinking, I do not enjoy killing my fellow predators. Especially not the cats.”

There was no defensiveness in her tone, only simple wisdom and a faint tiredness—after all, she’d run for several hours with little rest, mostly to escape the infuriating drive of her season, only to be set upon by a big cat and a mountain lion.

A sigh escaped her as she glanced down at herself, before adding, “I am Aurielle Adravendi, Spirit of Valhalla.”
