With Marshall flying overhead to babysit, the pair of pups wandered a little further than usual. The lure of willow trees pulled Aslatiel in the direction of the Weeping Woods. They wouldn't be too far from home, but it was still something new and exciting. The small, tan and grey girl let her paws lead the way and knew that her brother would follow. She was glad to be spending time with him again. It had taken a while to forgive her brothers. In fact, she had avoided all three of them for some time and had spent a lot of time reflecting upon her short life. When Az asked her to explore with him, she had pushed her solitude aside. Enough was enough and she had become lonely, so she said yes. Thankfully, most of the streams were small and easily traversed. Most of them, anyway. There were some larger streams. And then there was the river. A strange sound caught the girls attention. It was an odd sort of chipping sound. Fluffy ears perked and the girl shot her brother a lilac glance before motioning that he should follow. Asla's body lowered and she crept around one of the willows, careful to be quiet. A soft gasp pulled from her as her gaze rested on the sounds owner. "What... is that?!"Excitement thrummed through the girl. The creature was squat and brown. It's tail was like some strange flat paddle. She had never killed one of these before and was quite eager to add it to her list of murders. "Speech" |

Azure had been quieter since Asla's feast. The boy knew he had a large part in it being ruined, and although he did not feel guilty for how he treated Mort he did hate that it came between him and his sister. Thankfully she seemed to forgive him, and the pair went out on an exploration just the two of them. When they reached the river and Asla directed his attention over to a peculiar sound, Azure paused. His head cocked to listen, brows furrowing as he stared over at the weirdest creature he'd seen since the ghost-rock. "What's wrong with its tail, do you think it got smushed?" Azure asked softly, peering around to look for any fallen trees. It didn't make sense, what kind of advantage would a flat paddle give the animal? Did mother nature simply play a trick on this particular species? He let out a short laugh at the beaver's expense, moving forward towards it.

Az questioned her about the tail and the reason that it was flat. The girl gave a half shrug, still watching the creature while Az barreled towards it. "No, wait!" She hadn't been done observing the brown thing yet. Since he was moving forward, she sped up to pad alongside him. The brown thing looked up, slapped its strange tail on the ground, then slid into the water and disappeared. Aslatiel gasped, purple eyes going wide. "It swims!" Now that the creature was gone, gears started instantly turning within the girls mind. The tiny wolf motioned for her brother to follow and she hid behind one of the thicker willows. Since the brown lump had been chewing on a tree on the bank, she imagined that it would come back to it. Keeping her voice low, she spoke to her brother. "We should wait for it to come back, then get between it and the water. If we drive it away from the river, we should be able to kill it. It didn't look that fast." Raising her plum colored gaze to the blue eyes of her brother, she flicked both fluffy ears forward, waiting for any input. "Speech" |

Azure heard his sister's call and stopped in his tracks, nearly tumbling forward into the river. The beaver slapped it's tail and fled, and he frowned at the water where it'd vanished. "It swims fast." He echoed, a little disgruntled it'd escaped so easily. Asla motioned for him to follow and he moved along with her to hide behind the willow. As always his sister was a planner, and he'd come to trust her instincts without question. "Okay, that sounds good." Azure responded, crouching low to hide. The waiting and stalking of a hunt was not what drew him to the passtime, he only wished to kill and spill blood. However his sister was right, and he couldn't kill anything if he scared everything away first. It was a long wait, and Azure was becoming quickly impatient. For Asla he remained quiet and still but if he was alone he'd have turned and wandered to find something else a long time ago. Eventually the beaver returned, though it did appear hesitant. "Finally." Az breathed, meeting her gaze to see where she'd lead him. They could go kill it now, right? Right??

Az came back behind the tree to hide with her. The pair waited there for a time. She could tell that he was getting impatient, but was glad that he stayed with her. She really, really wanted to kill this thing. As they waited, she sharpened her claws as quietly as she could, sinking them into one of the thick tree roots. The sharper they were, the better they held onto fleeing animals. Eventually the brown thing came back onto land. She watched as it warily scanned the area. Though they were hidden, she imagined that its vision wasn't that good. Thankfully, the wind was blowing towards them rather than away from them. If the thing caught their scent, it might flee again. Turning to Az, she put her mouth close to one blue rimmed ear. "You stay here. I'm smaller, so I'll make my way around the other side and we can rush it and herd it away from the river. Watch for me." It was much the same as they had done with the pig. She would be on one side. He would be on the other. Together, they would steer the flappy tailed thing exactly where they wanted it. On very careful paws, Aslatiel made a wide loop around to the other side, staying out of sight and making not a sound. She was extremely good at moving silently by now and often just did it involuntarily. She took up her place along the edge of the river, hiding behind a willow that hung out over the water. She sought out Azure's blue gaze and nodded, flashing little white teeth in a grin. The brown thing was far enough up on the bank that they should be able to run behind it and cut off its escape. She nodded three times as if counting down, then rocketed forward from her hiding place. "Speech" |

Asla directed him easily and Azure did not find it hard to obey. Perhaps it was because he felt no threat of superiority from his sister, she did not seem to seek to be better than him nor did she brag about the things she did do best. If it were any other wolf leading the hunt Azure thought he might ruin it on purpose, just for the control that he so desperately yearned for. He followed her lead, crouching forward through the grass closer to the river so he'd be in position when she gave the signal. His gaze was locked upon hers and when she nodded a third time, the boy took off with her. Together they herded the brown beast forward, blocking off it's escape through the river and leading it onto the land where it was much slower. When they caught up with it, Azure couldn't help but pounce upon it's tail out of curiosity. It was hard, his claws did not feel like they could puncture it. Unable to draw blood upon the hardened tail, Azure began to wonder about what other oddities the creature might have inside. His one paw lifted, and he pushed a claw firmly into it's back near the butt-end of it's spine. "Maybe we shouldn't kill it yet." The boy suggested, curiosity and desire filling his voice. "Could... could we cut it up first?" He glanced to her for guidance, wondering if it would be going too far for his sister. Could he perhaps see it's heart beat before death silenced it?

The pair moved together in an unpracticed harmony, their bodies, though sized completely differently, in sync. Together, they pushed the creature inland. It wasn't fast at all. At least, not as fast as they were. Az leaped onto its tail and the brown thing released a squeaking chirp of protest. It was an interesting sound. She wondered what other sounds it made. Az asked a question to her and Aslatiel's eyes glinted darkly. He wanted to cut it up? Alive? A shudder ran through the young wolf and her coat bristled slightly. "We should try." She tilted her head slightly, eyes narrowing. "How do we keep it still?" They could break its legs or they could pin it down somehow. Either way, both children had the claws to get the job done. Even if the creature died, they could still explore what was inside. The idea was disgustingly intriguing to the little girl. "Speech" |

It was a good question, how could the two of them keep it still? Azure didn't want to sit on it's tail all day, he wanted to participate in the cutting too. Though if they could find something else heavy enough to put upon it's tail, that could work. He glanced around. "That rock, do you think we can move it? It's really big so I don't know... and only one of us could do the pushing cause the other has to hold it here. But if we could, the rock is heavy enough to hold it looks like." He was thinking aloud, but still unsure of his idea. Asla was small, she might not be able to push it. Azure would have better luck with his size pushing it, but then was Asla's weight enough to keep the beaver from fleeing? He sighed. "Or we can just cut it's legs off." He offered, exasperated.

Suggestions were made as to how they would keep the creature still. Aslatiel switched spots with Azure, sitting on the tail of the furry log. Just as with the ghost rock, it pulled her small form along. "I don't think I'll be able to keep it still. I'm too small." Silently, she cursed her diminutive stature. Casting orchid eyes to her brother, she listened as he suggested cutting the creatures legs off. The girl gave a shake of her head. "Losing blood makes things die. I saw it when the raccoon tried to kill the chicken." She had seen it too when off hunting on her own. More than once she had injured an animal and followed closely to observe as it bled out and died. As the creature continued to pull the girl along, she shrugged and looked to her much larger sibling. "You should break its legs, but don't rip them off. We know what's inside legs, so we don't need to cut those open." Well, she knew what was inside legs. She'd spent a lot of time looking at the bones of dead things. She spent a lot of time chewing on them too. "Speech" |

Asla was right, they wanted the beaver alive and to cut off it's legs would quickly kill it. He nodded his understanding, and then let his gaze fall upon it's short legs as she suggested he break them. The gears in his head turned, wondering exactly how he could manage it. "Okay." Azure - still upon the creature's flattened tail - shifted slightly so that he could brace himself on the creature's back but retain the weight on it to keep it somewhat slow in movement. He craned his neck so that his jaws lined up with the back leg and without a moment's hesitation pried his mouth open wide and brought it down upon the joint in the creature's leg. He was careful not to let his elongated fangs catch the skin, and crunched down with his back teeth. He tasted blood, though did his best not to rip and tear as he wanted to and merely apply hard firm pressure. Beneath his jaws the leg gave way, the creature screamed and Azure released it. He observed the leg for a moment to see if it could properly bear weight - and to see if his bite had caused too much bleeding to do three more - and deemed his work acceptable. He moved to the other back leg, repeating the process. Once both it's back legs were incapacitated, Azure could hop off the tail to move to the front and cripple the forelegs as well. When he was done, the creature flailed and made it's attempts to run but they were pitiful and sad. It'd be easy to keep it grounded for them to test. Azure moved to it's side, pressed a paw against it and shoved to force it onto it's back so they could access the soft underbelly. "I think that'll work." He told his sister, looking over at her. "What should we check out first?" Azure wanted to inspect as many parts of the creature as he could, but to do that he couldn't go straight to the heart or it'd simply die.

As Azure went through the process of breaking the creatures legs, Aslatiel winced. Though she didn't mind the act of killing, the sight of blood or even a bit of torture, she didn't like the sounds that creatures made when you killed them. Especially this shrill screeching. It hurt her ears. The small wolf tucked them against her skull and winced. Thankfully it didn't last long. Once the legs were broken, the brown lump simply breathed heavy and huffed now and again. Her brother's question pulled her back to reality and she furrowed her brow, looking at him. "It's going to die quickly now. Papa told me that animals don't live long when they're in pain." She cast a lavender glance at her brother. "What do you want to see first? Once I get it open, it won't last long." They could continue tinkering around inside when the beast was dead, but it would be much more interesting if the body was still working. "Speech" |

Azure stepped back to admire his handiwork, watching the creature intently. Asla had suggested they hurry before the thing died, and he shrugged his shoulders slightly and nodded. "The heart, I think. Do you think you can cut its chest open without damaging the heart too much? I want to see what it looks like when it beats." He knew that once Asla cracked the chest the thing would quickly bleed out, but perhaps the two pups would have enough time to watch the vital organ give it's last few pumps. He moved around the creature, positioning himself beside it and scooting one wide paw beneath it to flip it onto it's back. Another pained cry peeled from it as it was forced to roll atop it's shattered limbs, but it quickly quieted. To reserve it's strength? Azure didn't know, but he was fascinated. From where he stood he'd be able to see clearly what Asla was working on.

Ears perked as Azure expressed his wishes and the girl gave a shrug and a nod. She could probably open the thing up so he could see the heart."I might need your help pulling it open after I cut through everything, but we can give this a shot." If it didn't work, maybe they'd have to tear open something bigger than... whatever this thing was. Releasing her sharp little claws, Aslatiel carefully began to slice open the center of the log things chest. It released pained little squeals, but didn't struggle much. Already she could see that its eyes were getting glassy. It was going to die soon. She had to hurry. Coming down to the ribcage, she fought to slice through the thick cartilage there. Grunting, she looked to her brother. "Grab one side of the ribs and we'll try to pull it open. If we can't, you might need to bite through. I'm worried that it'll be dead by then." The creature was barely moving now and there was a puddle of blood beneath it. "Speech" |

Azure hurried alongside his sister, watching her slice down the chest to access the cartilage below. When she told him what was needed doing next, the boy gave a solemn nod. Luckily this was something his paws were suited for, the strength within his oversized forelegs was more then found in average wolves. He shouldered in gently, placing his left paw upon Asla's and his right on the other side of the ribcage. It was awkward, but he was able to crack the ribs apart with a sharp yank. The heart was beating slower and the boy knew it wouldn't be long before it stopped altogether. He stole a glance at his bloodied sister. "I love you, Asla." He murmured, voice soft with awe. "I hope you know that I'd do anything for you." Kindness did not come easily to him, and he cleared his throat before returning his attention to their rapidly dying prey.

Azure gently pushed her little paws aside and placed his much larger ones upon the beasts exposed ribs. With his massive, wide paws, he cracked the ribs open as easily as cracking an egg. Together, they watched the heart thump. The beats were slow as the creature lay dying, but it was definitely still alive while they were watching. Az spoke, his tones soft and Asla leaned against her brother, her bloody cheek on his shoulder. "I love you too, Az." There wasn't anything that she wouldn't do for him. As they got older and one of them was chosen as the Armada's successor... she would show him. Her head still on his shoulder, the girl had her plum colored eyes locked on the now still heart.
