When in doubt

Tyrian raced through the territory at an easy, ground eating sprint. There was no emergency, no urgency of any sort, just a desire to run and a need to stay in motion. Since ascending he was finding it increasingly difficult to be still. He wanted to be involved in something at all times; be it an everyday task, a hobby or engaging his packmates. It was no longer enough to be wakeful. If he was up Tyrian itched for something to do.
He slowed to a standstill in the low land between the knolls. A spar sounded nice. A chance to test himself and the prowess of a packmate.
Tyrian threw back his head bowled out an invitation to any Fireside wolf who might be interested. A simple spar was all he was asking for; the stakes were low.

Having long since recovered from the injuries she'd obtained from the raid, Asvor was glad that thing were going back to normal. Well - a new normal, really, since by the sound of things Tyrian had plans for Fireside that were quite different than what most of them had been used to. As far as she was concerned, she didn't mind; though she was growing old she'd never been particularly set in her ways and, if anything, she was growing even more receptive to change and to new ideas as she aged.
Overall Asvor was quite content with how things were going, and she wasn't thinking of much in particular as she navigated the knolls, content to bask in the pleasant afternoon sun. Her easy pace showed no real direction, at least until she heard Tyrian beckoning someone to come spar with him. Intrigued at the possibility of a good practice fight, she picked up her lazy pace to meet Tyrian, pleased to find he wasn't at all far from where she was wandering. "Looking for a fight, Tyrian?" She wore a faint smile as she approached, head lightly dipping in greeting.

He didn't have to wait long. The last echos of his howl had barely rung back from the distant trees of the orchard when Asvor came into view. She moved towards him with purpose and Tyrian cast an approving grin her way. The swiftness of a response - any response - was heartening. He was pleased to share a pack with eager wolves who were happy to take him up on a challenge. Chaos really had done a great job with this pack and in doing so had paved an easy road for Tyrian.
"Always," he retorted playfully before dipping into a battle ready stance. After a beat he asked with a cheshire grin, "Are you looking for a fight?" Better to ask and confirm his suspicions than over-eagerly plow over a healer who'd simply come to ask him a question or something.
Maybe he should throw out these invites more often. Tyrian had every intention of taking the pack off raiding soon and he wanted to be ready. While he had no doubt those like Asvor were already very skilled, there wasn't a wolf alive who didn't benefit from practice. As for Asvor specifically, being a physician, he wasn't sure if she would participate in a raid, but even if she wasn't interested, having capable wolves at home while the raiders were abroad was essential too. Hopefully she wished to take him up on his challenge.

Despite any of Asvor's faults, one thing she had always been was eager. As a youngster she had certainly had different drives and ambitions - they'd changed considerably as she grew into the wolf she was today, but she was no less passionate, all things considered. She was happy to greet the younger wolf with a grin as she loped closer, hoping he was up to sparring with her despite their differences in age. Though she couldn't deny she often felt her age, she knew she had plenty of years left; hopefully young Tyrian didn't underestimate her.
"I sure am," she replied, mirroring his grin as her own widened in excitement. He seemed to be mentally preparing himself and so she only hesitated a beat before rushing into things. He was young and spry, and she doubted she'd catch him off guard too much. Widening her stance, she kicked off hard toward him, trying to think of a fitting tactic. He was much larger and heavier than her, so she'd have to be quick on her paws and use her smaller build to her advantage. At the last second she dove to her left, spinning her hindquarters around before charging into his side, jaws parting as she aimed to grasp the middle of his front right forelimb and tug him down to her level.

Tyrian wasn't about to underestimate Asvor. He'd had his ass handed to him countless times by wolves who were 3, 4, 5 times his age (or more - looking at you, papa Valentine) so he knew better than to think his youthfulness would be his saving grace. Asvor no doubt had been fighting ages before he had been born. She knew a thing or two and if he were being honest, Tyrian was going to pay close attention to her in this fight because the odds of him learning something from this experienced fighter were pretty good.
He braced himself for impact as Asvor charge him. She was quite a bit smaller than him so he was confident he could take the hit and for that reason remained firmly planted. It was his mistake. Asvor was fast; in a blink she changed directions and came at him from the side. Her teeth sank into his right foreleg. Instead of trying to snatch the wounded limb away from her, Tyrian shoved to his right. His goal was to shove into Asvor and use his greater weight to bully her to the ground. At the same time he reached down and tried to slash across her forehead with his canines. The goal was to blind her with blood.

She'd been fighting since long before he was born, sure, but in truthfulness she hadn't spent a lot of time properly sparring. Much of her early life had been spent on her own, with most of her energy going to simply staying alive - and whatever excess she'd had, had gone toward her herb studies. Only now that she'd settled in to a stable pack beside Valdis did she have proper time to dedicated to practicing her fighting skills, and she was grateful for the stability that Niente, and then Legion, and finally Fireside provided her. It was far from the life she expected but she was beyond content with her opportunities here, and was excited for what the future had in store for them.
But right now, Asvor was focused mainly on the fight at hand. When she ducked to the side and snapped at his forelimb, she hoped to catch him off-guard, and the fact that he bite landed smoothly was proof that she'd been right in her predictions. But she hadn't considered just how much larger he was than her, and she knew all at once that she should've jerked away as quickly as she landed her bite. Instead she felt his weight beginning to shove into her, and then the sharp slash of his elongated canines against her forehead, a move she couldn't quite pry herself away from in time. The sting was mild but sharp, and thanks to the thin skin there, she already felt blood beginning to trickle down her forehead - and, as Tyrian had planned, right into her eyes. Squinting and trying to avoid being completely blinded, she lunged forward and straight into him again, this time aiming her parted jaws for the sensitive area just below his throat, hoping to avoided his long teeth as best as she could.

It was going to be a shoving match, then. Being the bigger of the two and used to throwing his weight around, this was fine with Tyrian. He considered himself a decent grappler and now seemed like as good a time as any to test his skills. So that was what he did. As Asvor shoved against him again he raised his right foreleg and tried to hook it around behind both of Asvor's forelegs. He wasn't quite sure if he was strong enough to pull both legs out from under her but he was damn sure going to try. Why not? It was just a spar; he had nothing to lose and nothing but experience to gain from it.
He did his best to evade Asvor's teeth, but without compromising the integrity of his leg sweep there was only so far he could go. Her teeth lashed across the side of his neck and there wasn't much Tyirna could do about it just yet besides curl his head down over his throat and attempt to land a retaliatory swipe of his canines across the side of Asvor's face. If he menaced enough perhaps he could keep her from seeking a more dangerous bite on his neck.
