Winterfell vs Abaven Raid
04-18-2020, 06:58 PM
Greed pulled away then and Desolate tensed to ready himself for another attack, then his head began to clear and he realized that the fight was done. He glanced down at the man's injured leg, hearing him speaking but barely able to hear. "Oh, thank you." The yearling responded, a little confused. Was it typical for your opponent to compliment your win? It felt odd, but also helped to swell the pride beginning within him. He never thought he'd get this far and the feeling was nothing less than thrilling. The experience was more intense then any fight or training spar he'd been in, and his heart pounded so loudly in his chest that he could hear it over the echoing growls and snarls that shook the clearing around him. He knew he had to keep going, to find another opponent and to do the best he could for Abaven. Across the plains he saw his alpha's battle coming to an end, the Winterfell King wearing her down with his titanic strength. A part of him wanted to avenge her and to make her proud of him by defeating the fierce king for her, though he knew to even think that was foolish. A true warrior knew where his strength lay, and as much as Desolate wished he could call himself an equal he knew he was no match for the northern wolf. Desolate tore his attention away from their battle, feeling the familiar warmth of anger begin to bubble within him. It took effort to shove it back down, to remind himself that he was representing Abaven in this and to let his emotions get the better of him could be disastrous. Across the clearing he spotted another, a black and white female sporting a snow leopard cape. She had no opponent, and so he rushed forward to initiate. He knew from his attack on Greed that these northern wolves were too smart to fall for a sneak attack, and so instead he rushed her head on. She was taller than him and his chest already ached from the powerful slam Greed had imparted upon him, so he kept himself carefully angled away from a similar counter strike. Instead, he finished his sprint by lifted his upper body and aimed to wrap his left foreleg around her neck and shoulders so that he might be able to off-balance her with the momentum. At the same time he parted his jaws and aimed to enclose them around her muzzle in the same way Greed had tried to do to him. Desolate Destruction vs Bellamy for Dominance Round 1/? Focus?
No, she couldn’t focus. Everything was loud in her head and Bellamy felt like screaming. She was breathing harder, the itch to fight, to tear flesh, the warning that if she didn’t walk away victorious she would be left for dead… She couldn’t gather herself. She blinked her eyes several times, trying to block out the memories… but they were there. Voices and sneers of those who were “above” her in her head.
“Dammit Bells! Watch it!”
Ears lunged as he called out to his companion. The devil was acting as a shield for the female from the younger male attacking her, and rather than Desolate’s muzzle closing around her own it instead met Ears’ body. The devil let out a shrill screech, rage filling him now that his right foreleg was in the male’s mouth. He took the brunt of the attack, and, thanks to the momentum of his other attack, the devil ended up wedged between Bellamy and Desolate as the male wolf’s left foreleg wrapped around her upper body.
The noise was enough to make Bellamy snap. She forgot herself, fight or flight, kill or be killed flared within the woman as instinct took over. The female gave a gutteral snarl.
Strike back.
The world around her dimmed to a hum as Bellamy dug her heels into the earth, buckling down with a widened stance and weight distributed across her limbs. No sooner had the weight of Desolate’s leg settled on her back was the woman attempting to toss her weight from her back end forward in a shove. She even forgot her companion, who was currently snarling as he was trying to clamp a smaller muzzle across the top of Desolate’s own, as she pushed back against him at an angle. She could feel her legs wanting to buckle in the front and sought to use her lowered angle to push into his chest and remaining forelimb. She wanted him on the ground.
Strike.
Show no mercy.
Her mind was screaming at her as Whiskers moved out past Bellamy’s left to give aid one way or another depending on how her shift in weight went. Bellamy wasn’t seeking any damage yet, at least not beyond bruising, but her snarl had Whiskers worried. Her distracted nature too…
‘Please don’t let her do something foolish…’ The badger prayed.

Desolate felt the flesh between his jaws and moved to yank his head back, the plan to be to rip and tear whatever part of her body he'd happened to grab. Oddly enough there was no resistance as flesh would give when he moved to pull, and after a quick moment he realized that his teeth were not in fact lodged into the body of a wolf, but that of a.. small thing. Stunned, the yearling released the tiny foreleg and very nearly broke his stance to utter apologies. Never had he attacked a companion, nor had one attack him. They felt out of bounds somehow, more innocent and undeserving of risking themselves for a fight between canines. Before he could fully shift himself off the poor squished creature he felt it's much smaller teeth begin to scrape across his muzzle. He pulled his head back swiftly (more out of surprise than a true dodge) and stumbled backwards. The female was pushing back on him and he struggled to battle her strength. While he had the weight on her, she had him in height. His chest still ached painfully however and he couldn't wrestle her for long. He aimed to shift his weight, to maneuver his leg off of her shoulders and right himself back on the ground without toppling beneath her. While she shoved against him he thought perhaps he could use her strength to his advantage, and in a swift movement aimed to throw his opposite side in a mirrored grapple. If it worked out, he'd hope to have his right foreleg upon her left shoulder instead, and use her momentum to force her to the ground as she had tried to do to him. For good measure - and to try to balance himself - he aimed another bite upon her, though this time attempting to grab her at the base of the ear to gain control of her head. Kai had been an interesting acquaintance and Rhyme had easily become fond of the man. He’d offered Rhyme unique introspection that he might not have gotten without meeting the man. He was glad to see him healthy, and maybe felt a little hurt that he had joined Winterfell instead of Abaven as he had not so subtly suggested. Though he was briefly reminded of the why of Acere’s raid. Was Kai the slave that had been traded for? ”It’s good to see you again, too.” He grunted as Kai shook his head to rid Rhyme’s bite.
The once alpha didn’t use any excessive force, first because he liked Kai. The man seemed respectable and Rhyme enjoyed his presence. As they moved together Kai’s well placed flick of his head had caught Rhyme’s jaw with his tusk. Rhyme called out as his head was forced up. With all the ferocity that could be conveyed in his feet Rhyme tried to release Kai and claw at his neck and chest to make him back down.

Brandr emerged victorious and he stepped back from the Winterfell man he'd been fighting, taking a moment to catch his breath. He had to admit he was a bit stunned by the victory. How long had it been since he'd sparred? Well, apart from the practice spars before the raid where he was promptly trounced by the more experienced.
Brandr re-centered himself. He was injured but not so much he couldn't continue so he opted to pick one more fight. His eyes first settled on a yearling male. The boy looked seasoned as a fighter but for some reason Brandr couldn't quite bring himself to attack the youth. Perhaps it was the thoughts of his daughter back in the pack boundaries, ill. Still ill.
His eyes were drawn then to the Winterfell alpha who had defeated Theory and he felt his hackles raise. Ah yes, the source of this. Two thoughts ran through his mind. One, that he hadn't a prayer against such a seasoned fighter. Two, if he could defeat Theory then he was the biggest threat on this battlefield. Brandr set his defenses and prepared to attack. He kicked off violently, seeking to come at Acere's right side, angling in toward the back of his front leg at a 45 degree angle. His jaws flung wide as he sought to dig his jaws into the crease where the back of Acere's front right leg joined his body. At the same time Brandr flung his left shoulder forward, seeking to strike it into the other man's ribs and cause bruising.
Brandr didn't consider attacking from behind low in any way. It was a practice raid after all and in a true raid one had to watch their back. He'd trust Ambi, his eagle, to watch his. All in all though he knew his efforts were risky and the chance of victory slim. But victory wasn't necessarily the goal. Brandr simply hoped to do enough damage to his opponent to take Acere out of play and protect his fellow pack mates. If that meant taking the Winterfell alpha down with him then so be it!

Why was he even frustrated? None of this was Ignis's fault, but he was suddenly the closest - and thus, the easiest - target. Everything seemed to come to fruition all at once. His parents being gone, the disappearance of his sister, Shaye's death, the volcano's eruption. So many wolves of their wolves and family members lost, some found again, some to likely never return to them. It was all too much... and now they had been unwittingly roped into this raid, for no reasons of their own. Not only that, but they'd spent nearly a season fearing it and worrying about being prepared. Not that it was anything serious, but somehow it felt serious, and left Corvus with a sour taste in his mouth. Why them? What had they ever done to deserve this, any of this?
Maybe his thoughts were unreasonably angsty for the circumstances, but Corvus had always been the type to overthink, and now was no exception. He was ready for this, he'd been training for ages, but facing Ignis now head-on he suddenly felt wildly unprepared. As soon as Ignis mirrored his actions, his forelimbs moving to grapple with his shoulders and tug him down, Corvus stumbled. He didn't mean to, but he was suddenly distracted by his friend's helmet and breastplate. Those would certainly make it harder to land any attacks, but maybe they'd weigh him down a bit?
Either way, he hardly had a chance to react before he felt him own body go spinning toward the ground. Ignis's words had caught him off-guard, enough to make him lose his balance entirely, and he felt his own limbs slacken and begin to slip. "Sorry?" He didn't have time to think, only to react, and he lunged for the corner of Ignis's breastplate, hoping to get a grip on the leather straps that fastened it together, tugging him down hard. "You should be!" Corvus barked out before he could even stop to consider his words, which was a rarity for him.

The teeth of the Tasmanian Devil barely scraped the male’s muzzle before he was released. Not too soon, either, because had Desolate kept his hold undoubtedly Ears would have been wedged between Bellamy and the yearling. He fell to the earth between their forelegs unceremoniously with a thud and, noticing it too late, discovered something was off with Bells.
The female’s eyes rolled wildly as Bellamy felt her weight shifting downward. Aggression was mingling with panic as she felt Desolate’s foreleg side off her. Bellamy twisted her head to the left, lowering it down as she started to go down, and felt pain.
Desolate’s attack, while he didn’t grab the base of her ear, met flesh and his teeth tore through the top of the right one.
Pain lit through her, sending jolts of electricity down her spine in a second. Instinct guide her as his right foreleg pressed down upon her body.
Her head wasn’t at the best angle, twisting her body so that, once she finally met the ground, she’d wind up on her back. Mid fall, however, with Ears scrambling to avoid the woman’s body, Bellamy’s open jaws sought purchase on the right side of the youth’s face on the right side. Her upper fangs sought to tear into the flesh below the eye, across his cheek, with the lower trying to fall near the bottom jaw and his cheek. Given the angle a hold would be impossible even with the attempted bite… but damage was a possibility at least.
Whiskers kept on the outside of Bellamy and Desolate’s fight to Bellamy’s left, Desolate’s right, while Ears was on the opposite side. “Bells!” Her cry was probably in vain as the she-wolf lost her balance and started going down… but she could sense it. Something was wrong. Bellamy was reacting too desperately.
Did she forget this was meant to be against allies of Winterfell?
She almost seemed afraid… like she needed to fight for her life…

His readjustment had succeeded and Bellamy was headed for the ground beneath him. What he didn't expect was the way she'd turned to land on her back, and he was not able to pull back in time to avoid the bite upon his cheek. Sharp shooting pain began below his eye and seemed to radiate along the entirety of the right side of his face. The way this wolf fought was different then the last, and it was enough to make Desolate unsure of himself. They were told this was to be a friendly raid and while Desolate hadn't believed that at the time, his last opponent had been gracious and complimented him. The yearling was starting to fall into rhythm then, to enjoy the training and worry less about the severity of the situation. This female fought entirely different, as if her life was in jeopardy. Desolate wanted to call down to her, to remind her that he didn't want to hurt her and that they were supposed to be friends. The pain in his face was too much to ignore and Desolate was beginning to panic. If he yielded now, would she even respect it? If his eye swelled up and impaired his vision would she simply go for the kill? He couldn't afford to let himself lose focus or show any weakness, not when he wasn't sure about this stranger's motives or intentions. While she was still upon her back Desolate aimed to lift his upper body and slap his right forepaw upon the side of her muzzle with all his weight. It wasn't an attempt to maim or seriously injure, but he was becoming desperate enough that he'd hope the force of it might slam her head into the ground and knock the terrifying woman unconscious so he could leave the battlefield and see to his facial wound. Her teeth found their mark and drew blood. Bells eyes were rolling wildly, not understanding why the male wasn’t being more aggressive. His age, his alliance, everything was blotted out by her panic. Bellamy didn’t know what to do; she was on her back and with his paw landing on her muzzle to push it away, once her fangs were free of Desolate’s face Bellamy let loose a screech. On her back the female thrust her own forelegs upward and attempted to strike his chest, make him back off by making it harder to breath or causing enough discomfort that he might think twice about going for another attack. Nothing made sense anymore… only the dire need of survival. “Get back!” Bells snarled, tempted to draw her blade if the other didn’t back down in the next few moments.
Whiskers at last made a move of her own as well; the black and white creature decided to throw herself at Desolate’s back left leg. She did not come with open jaws, no, because her main goal was to attempt getting the male to back away from Bellamy… if this kept up the fight was going to go even farther and someone was going to be severely hurt. It had to stop now before it was too late.
If it wasn’t already.
Ears shifted on his paws as he tried to turn towards the two canines and made an effort to regain his bearings.
Would he need to jump in to save Bells again?

Though Acere had instructed them that this raid was a friendly one, there was an undeniable tension in there air... and Kirsi wasn't about to hold back just because this was meant to be friendly. No, she wasn't the type to go easy on anyone, especially someone she felt she was evenly matched against. It wasn't her style to pick an easy fight, but even if she had, she simply wanted to win. That was why she moved with such raw tenacity, dropping and going for Twig's forelimb, not bothering to hold back.
Twig reacted quickly, spinning around as Kirsi dug in hard for a moment only to release her grip. All at once she felt Twig return an attack of her own, jaws clamping down on her scruff. Feeling adrenaline pouring through her like a dam that had been breached, she jerked away roughly from her bite, no doubt drawing blood and earning herself a good injury if she did manage to release herself from her grip. Trying to maintain her own balance as she felt on one of Twig's limbs lash out at her own, she tried to hunker down - leaning her weight backwards and away from Twig, before kicking forward and trying to barrel into her chest, lifting a paw to help aid in her maneuver
