Mæva waltzed across the prairie that was quickly becoming her favorite place to spend the day. Although it was cold the sun was shining brightly, warmer her back as she traveled. She chuckled at some prairie dogs that were eyeing her from their burrows. They'd be fun to hunt some time but that was not her focus today. Today she was going to see if she could find a sparring partner without having to travel all the way to the battlefield to do so. While it was nice and all she was trying to stick to the west and south as much as possible in case her father needed her for any reason. The prairie seemed like a place wolves and animals might congregate and so she threw her head back and howled for an opponent.

He’d been hanging near the young wolf since their encounter with the coyotes and bear, like some distant guardian. Her free-spirited nature and tenacity had intrigued him. True, wolves did mature much more quickly than horses—alas, that also meant they aged and died much sooner, whereas a horse who was savvy with surviving harsh winters and hot summers could surpass their twenties and still look like a horse in their prime.
As the howl summoned across the prairie, full of spark and challenge, he chuckled softly before tossing his head in a light ‘why not’ gesture.
Wangui had rejoined himself and Isolde, and he bowed his head, letting the lemur detach the blade coil from his horn, leaving it bare and less dangerous. The point was still sharp, but if he used it on the young wolf, he’d merely swat with the flat, rather than raking with the tip or plunging it in.
He ambled toward the young wolf, Isolde floating on the winter thermals above and Wangui riding on his withers and peering at the pup as Taliesyn smiled down at the wolf, greeting easily, “Hello Mæva. Might I claim this spar?”
His deep voice was almost playful. It would be quite different from teaching his sons to spar, or daughters to defend themselves, but he figured it would be fun to spar a wolf. After all, his mother had sparred often with the wolves she'd become an honorary family member to.

With the sun on her back and a full belly Mæva was feeling more confident than she had in awhile. Until her call was answered by Taliesyn. He was nice but she wasn't sure how to fight someone so big. All the same she greeted him with a smile. "Hi Taliesyn! Sure, I'll do my best." She moved back form him so they had some space to start. Swiftly setting her defenses she tried to settle on a target. For one thing there wasn't a whole lot in reach and she wasn't much of a leaper but still she had to try.
Mæva burst forward and attempted to slide along Tali's left side, jaws flung wide she tried to snag his back leg, just above the hock.

The stallion smiled, backing several steps away as she did. He didn’t bother to really set his defenses—with him being so tall, there was little way of guarding his belly. But he had ways around that little issue.
She didn’t go for his belly, though, instead arrowing for his lefty hind leg. The stallion countered swiftly, that hind leg snapping up and aiming to clip the young wolf under the jaw with the front of his fetlock even as his other hind hoof propelled him forward into a leap as Wangui dropped from his back, aiming to land on Maeva’s back and grab her by the ears.
Isolde circled above, patiently waiting for a moment to harry or distract the young wolf as Taliesyn sought to wheel and playfully strike at the girl’s rump with a swat of his horn, aiming to smack the flat of it over her left hip, a chuckle escaping him from the sheer pleasure of dancing with a youngling again.

Mæva saw the unicorn's leg move and she quickly abandoned her attack, shifting to the side to avoid getting clocked in the head. As she did though Tali's hoof clipped her shoulder. Her dodge to the side also helped her avoid the lemur. Geira who had been waiting patiently suddenly dove for the lemur claws out as she attempted to swatch the creature across the back of the head.
Mæva meanwhile was focused on fighting Tali and she opted to pull a risky move, darting under the side of the man as she spun in a tight circle, almost as if she was going to try going after her tail. Her jaws flung wide as she leapt up and tried to bite him on the back of his elbow. The tight circle helped her to avoid most of his attack but his horn still thwacked her tail sharply as it had come untucked to aid her balance in spinning.

Taliesyn’s response to Maeva’s risky attack was as simple as rearing. He was large enough that he could easily lift out of reach in the front end. Reversing swiftly, he let his front end slam down, aiming to shake the ground with his hooves, close to Maeva’s frame, but taking care not to actually strike her with so much weight.
His great head slung low, a wrecking ball motion aiming to knock the girl over sideways with the brunt of his wide cheek aimed for her left rib cage as his hooves danced out of reach. Wangui, meanwhile, twisted out of the way of the Caracal, one hand suddenly shooting toward the feline’s front paw and seeking to catch it above the wrist, yanking toward herself in hopes of destabilizing the cat.
From above, Isolde spotted a moment and stooped, dropping like a rock and aiming to tag the caracal on the rump, wings buffeting as she climbed again, better suited for dive bombing and retreating than staying clung to her opponent.

The unicorn reared, displacing her attack but rather than leaping for a target she kept on her paws and followed Taliesyn front half as the stallion spun. His head went low, trying to swiper her over but she kept spinning with the horse taking care to keep close and yet stay out of the way of his hooves and horn. Mæva then twisted her head and leapt up, seeking to bite Tali's underside about six inches back from his front leg.
The lemur caught one of Geira's paws but it didn't stop the other from shooting toward the monkey's face. She let the creature destabilize her, flopping over on her side as her hind legs kicked out at the lemur's belly. The rolling brought her out of the way of the hawk's attack.

His head swept upward, and as Maeva sought to leap, his reaction was simple, rearing higher and twisting to one side, out of reach as he pushed off in a bounding, great leap, hind hooves kicking out toward her head and side, though he held the full power of the attack at bay.
Wangui, meanwhile, released the Caracal’s paw as soon as the cat dropped to the ground and aimed those back feet at her. The lemur’s long tail lashed for balance as she pushed off in a leap to drop onto the stallion’s back as the horse whirled on his hocks and snaked that horned head low, teeth baring and jaws parting as he lunged, aiming to snag the young wolf by the scruff and pick up, albeit gently. Just as he had always done, he was gentle in each movement he made, as best as a half-ton beast could be.
