Sparian on Ice

Sparrow had oh so nicely found her way to Tyr's den. So sweetly asked him how he was doing and listened to his response. Then she demanded he follow her out of the pack lands because "it's really cool," and "you won't regret it, I promise," as well as "it'll be great for training." She might have even thrown in a quip about their previous fight- which she had won- without wholeheartedly throwing it in his face. She knew he could best her just about any day, he had just caught her on the wrong day at the wrong time was all. And he got whopped for it. And now it was water under the bridge- Sparrow thought.
So she led her best friend who also happened to be her uncle out of the pack and to the swamp lands. It was frigid and the icy winds chilled and battered the duo as they traveled. The swamp lands were sure to be frozen over now with the chill in the air and it wasn't far enough south to really be warm. Besides, the water was shallow and stagnant- it didn't stand a chance against the season.
The mosses crunched underfoot and Sparrow cast a smirk in Tyr's direction. She sought out a nice span of water, something that would otherwise be a murky, sticky mess was now glossy with ice and occasionally powdered with fresh snow. Sparrow took a moment then tip toed onto the ice rink. She made it a few steps out, then turned to Tyrian, slipping part of the way, but catching herself, giving him a loose, lopsided grin.
"See, it's perfect for sparring. If you can fight on this, you can fight anywhere!"
As if to prove a point, she dug her nails into the ice, treading slowly backwards to make room for Tyrian to join her on the ice-made battle field. She crouched low, half out of the need for balance and half because she was getting ready to fight. The wind blew her fur in all which ways, but she attempted to keep her hackles raised- her eyes were already scrunched and ears pinned as a result of the frigid blasts nature threw their way. She wagged her tail as she waited, but planned to tuck it as soon as her uncle stepped into the ring.
Sparrow came to a stop, drifting backwards a little more than she had planned- the surprise clear on her face for a moment before she washed it over with a confident quirk of her brow. "See? Easy peasy!"

In all honesty Tyrian hadn't been keen to undertake Sparrow's little adventure. He'd gone, though, because their relationship had hit a couple bumps as of late and playing peacemaker seemed like the best course of action. Sparrow was his best friend. There was no one else he'd rather hang out with and if this was something he needed to do to help Sparrow get through whatever problem she was working on, then so be it. He'd brave the howling winter winds and slide around on the ice all day if that's what she wanted. Not that he was going to tell her that. No, he was going to softly grumble and complain like he always did so she wouldn't figure out just how much power she could wield right now if she wanted.
He scowled skeptically as Sparrow slid around on the ice and rolled his eyes when she called it easy peasy. Uh huh. Easy peasy his foot. If they both escaped this ordeal without busting their chins or their asses on the ice it would be a miracle. Tyrian rolled his eyes playfully and sighed heavily as though he was only humoring her.
"Easy peasy, huh?" He shrugged like it was no big deal and then followed her out onto the ice. Only once did he have to catch himself so he wouldn't fall. His tail flared up as his paws slid around, but in seconds he had it under control. It was a tentative, most likely short-lived sort of control, but it was control all the same. Once his balance was saved he shot Sparrow a look before continuing forward. He was so busting his ass before everything was said and done.
Trying to be sneaky, he leaped forward suddenly. Unfortunately for him, the slick ice smothered most of his forward momentum and he ended up having to double up on his effort to get the same outcome. In the end, however, he succeeded in launching an attack. Granted Sparrow would have seen it coming from a mile away so the sneak factor was lost entirely, but it was something. It was so silly he couldn't help but laugh. "This is bullshit!" he shouted as he attempted to ram his left shoulder into Sparrow's chest while keeping all four paws under him.

Sparrow only barely was able to keep her calm watching Tyrian struggle to find his footing on the ice. Slowly her own paws slid outward and she had to continuously readjust them in order to maintain her balance. He looked skeptical, and while Sparrow had no doubt they'd both find themselves on their asses soon enough, she still thought it would be good training... probably.
As her uncle found his way onto the rink, Sparrow fought to withhold her laughter. It was rare the alpha ever looked unsteady or uncertain and, even though he was no where as serious as some of their family members, Sparrow was fairly sure this was a side of him only she and maybe a few others got to see.
While Sparrow was dazed, Tyrian launched himself at her. It seemed about as difficult as Sparrow would have imagined, and while he managed to keep his footing, any amount of sneakiness was lost. Sparrow backpedaled to try to dodge, but her paws came out from under her. Her rear hit the ground with a soft thud and not long after, Tyrian sloughed into her, sending her skidding backwards. Sparrow couldn't help but laugh at the situation as she clobbered around clumsily while getting back to her feet.
Once she was righted again, Sparrow slowly turned, digging her nails into the ice as she did so. The sensation wasn't pleasant at all, but she would do it anyway just for the fun of the battle overall. As she kicked forward, she skittered around for momentum for a moment. Her plan might have sort of been based around a move she had done as a pup at some point with her father. She knew for this to work on ice and with her size, however, she would need more momentum. As she neared Tyr, she suddenly dropped to her belly, letting her momentum carry her the rest of the way and hopefully tripping him up in the process.

Had they been on stable ground Sparrow's attempt to trip him up would have been swift. His dodge too would have played out quickly. The ice put a damper on their rapid, practice-honed moves. Though he could see what she intended to do and knew how to counter and protect himself, Tyrian could do little more than skid in place and inch away from Sparrow as she slid towards him. In the end she was unavoidable and the end result was a slow collision with him desperately trying - and failing - to turn and leap away. He ended up falling over top of her in a graceless mess. The only plus side to the whole thing was that getting a grip on her would hopefully be easy now that she was literally the road block he was hung up on.
Hoping to capitalize on her nearness, Tyrian attempted to cage Sparrow underneath his body using his legs. Getting his limbs squared away underneath him would be no small feat, but he hoped that if Sparrow stayed tangled up under him he could use her to ground his movements a little and keeping him from sliding around so much. She would be breaking up his contact with the ice and hopefully - to some extent - offer a surface that had a bit more grip to it. If he could just capitalize on that perhaps this fight on the ice wouldn't be such a lost cause after all.

Tyrian attempted to cage Sparrow in, which mostly worked, forcing Sparrow to stay on her back for the time being. She did her best to mirror the effect and wrap her front paws around his neck. With him secured, Sparrow did the only other thing she could think to do, which was to push her back feet against the ice and try to gain some momentum on her back. With Tyrian trapped, he had no choice but to stay with the movement of the Sparrow sled as she gained speed, kicking away at the ice beneath her. She continued to slide them towards the end of the rink with every intention of shoving her opponent head first into a nice snowy bank on the edge of the ice.
As the two came to the edge, Sparrow sucked in a deep breath and scrunched up her face for protection as she gave one final shove, driving both of them hopefully into the snow ahead.
