[OOC: Open to any and all. Down to do anything, spar / hunt / crafting / just chatting / plot things / etc.] The Weeping Woods were quickly becoming one of Azure's favorite places to spend time. Even with the light dusting of snow that remained after a storm, the woods seemed to be able to hide the growing boy better then any other land he'd encountered. The browns and green-blue markings that made up his coat could almost disappear behind the willows, and although he knew that it was more than likely he'd been tailed by a companion in the sky he still felt as if he'd succeeded in sneaking away from the hustle and bustle of home towards a place where he could be himself. Here he did not need to worry about being the heir to anything or getting in trouble for the way he spoke to others. He could try and forget his troubles with Asla or the fact that every battle he'd fought had been lost. There was no responsibility or duty or training to be done, he could simply tuck himself behind one of the long curtains of willow and enjoy some obligation-free relaxation. If a prey animal scampered by he could kill it, then do whatever mutilation he wanted to it's corpse without judgement from his mother. If a stranger came by, well, he'd figure that out when the time came. Technically said stranger wouldn't be intruding - the Armada's borders were further away and they had no claim to the woods - though Azure didn't often follow the rules anyways. Perhaps he could pretend.

Hanako didn't belong here. Her colourful pelt stood out bright and blaring as she moved through the shadows cast by the overhanging branches of the willows. It was lovely here, dark and hidden, a shady little paradise to call her own. She'd been without her Keepers for quite some time, and despite the fact she knew that it was wrong she found herself enjoying the solitude, like she could finally breathe. She liked The Keepers well enough and appreciated all that they did for her but sometimes she just wished that she didn't have to pretend . She'd gotten awfully good at it mind you, good enough to even convince herself, but in quieter moments like this it truly felt as though a massive weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Like she could simply exist without judgement or appraisal, even if only for a little.
She continued on, the branches brushing against her spine as she slipped through a curtain of leaves. And then she noticed him, a dark stranger lingering in the shadows.
"Oh!" She cheeped, flinching a little in surprise.
And there she thought she'd been all alone, that she'd found a private, quiet little space to have all to herself. It was selfish really but she couldn't help but feel a pang of frustration as her lips turned down in a sulky little pout. How unfair! She never asked for much but the world didn't even seem to want to grant her a little privacy! Then she caught herself, a little shocked at how worked worked up she'd gotten over the simple appearance of a stranger. Besides, if anything she was the one who'd barged in on him, she had no right to think like that. And just like that she slipped back into her role, like it was her natural state of being.
She dipped her head, low and apologetic. All polite and proper and perhaps a little kiss-assey. When she raised her head she took a moment to look him over, he was a bit of a strange sight with sabre fangs and pointed barbs, dark earthy colours that blended him seamlessly with their surroundings. But as The Keepers had once said, it was not her place to judge the looks of others. Hypocritical of them for sure, but she'd never questioned their words before, so why would she start now?
"I didn't mean to intrude." She offered him a soft, easy smile.

At the sound of disturbed branches Azure's teal gaze flew open, his muscled form tensing. The scent of the stranger was not one he recognized, and although he may have had too much ego for his own good he at least could admit that even he was not indestructible. Just recently a bear had come up on his brother, and had it not been for the Armada warrior who risked his life to chase it off Indy could have been killed. There was no way Azure would allow himself to fall to that fate, and instinct told him to remain hidden and quiet until he knew what it was he was dealing with. As she came up closer the young prince realized he could hide no longer. She pushed through the curtain of leaves and introduced herself with a surprised cheep, bringing the on-edge boy to furrow his brows in quiet confusion. Her easy smile and submissive mannerisms told him she was not a threat, but regardless Azure's wide paws brought him a few paces backwards in reply as her mood seemed to shift. So far the wolves he'd met had been as brazen and bold as he was, the type of personality he clashed with in his yearning for dominance. This girl however looked only a bit older then he was and nowhere in her soft smile nor slender frame did she appear intimidating. "I'll have to find it in my heart to forgive you." He responded finally, having had considered admitting that the woods did not belong to him and deciding against it. This way he was not lying, and if the woman was a test of his father's he'd not have failed. "If you did not mean to intrude, then why are you here?" Suspicion hardened his gaze, his lip curling back just slightly to reveal a small strip of teeth.

For reasons Hanako couldn't fathom he seemed annoyed by her, solidifying it in her mind that she had in fact, in some shape or form, stepped on his paws. Even her untrained sense of smell could pick up the scent that lingered on the breeze, they were close to a pack but no so close that she was trespassing. So what then? Had she stumbled upon a place he'd claimed for personal use? That line of thought made the most sense to her and in a way she could sympathise with him; after all she'd be a bit miffed if someone let themselves into her personal den. He continued to regard her with a calculating, almost cold stare, and Hanako stood there unflinching as she allowed his gaze to roll over her. By then Hanako was used to the feeling but she couldn't help but wonder what he thought of her, whether he was impressed by what he saw.
"I'd be really grateful if you did." She said, her tail wagging in earnest, slow sweeps. She was really hamming it up, even for her.
His question threw her off and she took a moment to consider his words. At first it seemed fair enough but the way he worded it made it sound as though he thought she was up to no good. Which wasn't even close to the truth, but before she had the mind to say as much he bared his teeth in a silent threat, one that mostly went over her head. After all she'd never had such an encounter before, this was new territory and so her naivety was at an all time high. She blinked and her head tipped to the side in obvious confusion. She didn't really have a solid answer to give him but she had no intention of lying to him either, that just wasn't in her nature.
Her smile flattened into a thoughtful pout. "Hmm. I just thought it was quiet here. Pretty too."

No matter how hard he pushed, the girl's mood never seemed to tip towards aggression. Az was so used to push-back, to wolves who would stand up to him and defend themselves or their actions. This yearling merely asked his forgiveness and explained herself along with it, she was acting the same way he wished the wolves of his pack would act but without knowing that he was the heir. Another thought crossed his mind, and he began to wonder what the difference truly was. This yearling seemed well-bred and pleasant with a clean kept coat decorated in bright colors. She did not scream 'ruffian' or 'rogue' or really any different from the Armada's warriors physically. Was it because the Armada wolves knew his title that they intentionally disrespected it? "My name is Azure Fatalis." He introduced himself with a subtle dip of the head, a polite acknowledgement rather then a gesture of respect or submission. "I'm the heir to the Ashen Armada throne, if you were to cross that river you would find yourself in my territory." The prince gestured halfheartedly with a paw towards the mentioned body of water and the plains beyond it. This was the point where wolves began to fight back; whether it was the instinct within them to push against authority or something else, Azure waited quietly with his gaze upon her to see the result of his experiment.

Much to Hanako's relief her response seemed to appease him as he was quick to let the matter go. Instead, he went onto introduce himself and her ears tilted forward when she realised just who she was dealing with. During her travels with her Keepers she had met many noble wolves, those of old blood and high social standing, but she'd hadn't yet had the chance to speak with a prince face to face. There had always been a messenger, a go between passing messages back and forth to keep it proper and follow tradition. But despite the uncertainty of the situation Hanako knew what to do.
"It is an honour to meet you, Your Highness." She'd already put on a show of offering her respects but in hindsight it seemed inadequate, like she hadn't given him the reverence he deserved. She dipped her head once again, lower this time and held it for a beat longer. When she finally raised her gaze she was careful to not look him directly in the eyes. "I'm Hanako." She had no fancy titles to flaunt and that suited her just fine, she knew her place and it fit her nice and snug.
She then followed his line of sight, her mouth pursing in awe as she looked upon the river and imagined the lands beyond it. Knowing her Keepers they'd be very interested in arranging a meeting with the Ashen Armada. She was a little chuffed that she hadn't needed them to act as an intermediary, that she had gotten this far all by herself. Which wasn't to say she had any intentions, nor would she impose or expect anything of his Highness but.... Well, she knew how her Keeper's minds worked and what they wanted from her in the end. That's all.
Turning back to him she shrugged a little sheepishly. "Your Highness, in all honesty I don't really know where I am. But I must thank you for clearing things up a little."

Azure was glad that the girl did not meet his gaze as she stood from her bow, perhaps that meant his bewilderment went unnoticed. Quickly he worked to fix his expression, to appear at least outwardly that he'd expected such a response. This was the respect he craved, the way he wished wolves would reply when they heard his name. The young prince cleared his throat and tried to keep his elation from bubbling up in reply. Az was not what wolves would call polite or respectful, though he found it easier to act that way when the one he spoke to was not being headstrong. He floundered for a moment with his response, trying to grasp for the words a regal wolf would use in reply. "And uh, it's nice to meet you as well." The formality was difficult for him, and for a moment a scowl touched his darkened lips. He had no practice in this, but Mortis had suggested he learn to put on a diplomatic face. He studied her for a moment and appreciated how well the servitude suited her. Azure was still too young for romantic stirrings though he could still appreciate the wolf's beauty, especially when she was able to make him feel so respected. "Where do you live, Hanako?" He asked after a moment. The urge to claim a follower was a new one to Az, generally he hardly noticed the wolves who passed by or who his father recruited into their ranks. It might cause issues for him - especially where Sirius was concerned - but Azure couldn't get out of his head how amazing it would be to be able to feel this way all the time. To have a wolf who treated him the way he deserved and could feed into his pride whenever he needed it. The more he thought about it, the more tempting the idea became. Before he could truly entertain the idea however he needed to know to whom this wolf belonged, and what pack he'd be making enemies with if they found out who it was who stole her.

If Azure had a pronounced reaction to her words then she didn't notice. Instead her smile grew as he pushed the conversation on, returning the formalities like he actually enjoyed her company. A warm sense of pride rushed through her system as she mentally gave herself a little pat on the back. Normally gaining a wolf's approval wasn't a difficult task for her, but since they'd gotten off to a bit of a rocky start Hanako couldn't be certain. It never occurred to her that she'd been walking on thin ice, that only in being so polite and demure she'd won his favour, and that without it she could have easily wound up hurt, or worse. But as far as she was concerned, Azure was a fine gentleman and a worthy prince. Maybe, if pressed, it could be argued that he was overly cautious and a bit rough around the edges, but what did that matter? And who was she to judge him?
His next question was a natural one but once again she found herself hesitating.
"Um, nowhere really." She laughed at little at the absurdity of it. "I was travelling with my Keepers but we got separated and...well, here I am." Her tail flicked, gesturing to the willows surrounding them.
It idly occurred to her that maybe she should have been more worried about her Keepers, that for all she knew they could've gotten themselves into some real trouble. But really it was difficult for her to think of them in that way, they were so large and imposing, wolves capable of seemingly anything it seemed silly for a person like her to fuss over their welfare. No doubt they'd find it insulting, patronising even, like she was babying them. Just thinking about them reminded Hanako of her blunder, she hadn't even bothered to explain just who or what her Keepers were. A mistake she was quick to rectify.
"The Keepers are my wardens, Your Highness. I've been in their care for most of my life." It still felt a little strange to be apart from them but not unpleasant.
By then she noticed that Azure was asking her a lot of questions but she hardly minded, if anything she found it quite flattering that a man of his status was interested enough to pry in the first place.

It was not a title Azure had heard of before, and briefly the boy's lips parted to question who exactly these 'Keepers' were. She seemed to realize the information she'd left out however and quickly filled in the blanks. Azure's head nodded and his expression grew more thoughtful. "I see." Did this imply that she was a servant of some sort? He'd not heard of a wolf having wardens unless they were lesser in some way. It made sense, especially considering the easy way her respect was earned. He studied her carefully and then made a show of glancing about the willows. "Well, I can't leave a lady wandering alone in the woods with no one to care for her. It's not safe here." Nothing in particular had given Azure the impression that the woods were dangerous - in fact, if they were he would likely not be allowed to explore them on his own - though it might help his case if she feared them. "Return home with me, I'll send word to these keepers about where you are and invite them back to collect you whenever they may feel like it." It was not a request, and strangely the prince struggled to keep the easy confidence in his voice as he spoke the command. Of course he did not care about where these so called wardens were nor did he have any intention to seek them out. Hanako would be his, one of the few who would appreciate and respect him in the Armada. Should she deny him, he'd simply have to take her freedom by force. Azure gestured with his muzzle towards the plains beyond the woods, turning away from her as if there was no doubt she would follow. "There will be rules during your stay." He began. "It is very important you obey them."

Hanako's tail wagged again, pleased that he'd accepted her explanation. If he'd pressed for more she would have happily given it to him, but as things stood it just didn't feel necessary. After all, she knew that if he wanted to know more he'd ask. Instead he went onto say that the woods weren't safe, that it wouldn't be right to leave a lady like her wandering all alone and her ears tilted back, worried by the thought. She'd been on her own for a little while and hadn't yet run into trouble thus far, but how long would her luck last? Of course, it didn't occur to her that wolves could pose a threat to her safety but the same couldn't be said for other forms of wildlife. Bears and cats would happily sink their teeth and claws into her if given the chance, she'd learned that the hard way.
More than that, he went onto order- not request- that she return to the Armada with him. Blinded by naivety she couldn't help but think that it was a very generous offer, that he was going out of his way to offer her a helping paw. If she hadn't already been fond of Azure than that certainly did the trick.
"Oh! That's so generous, Your Highness, I would truly be in your debt. " As if she already wasn't.
He was right. When Azure turned Hanako followed, lingering behind at a respectful distance. With a name like the Ashen Armada she wasn't surprised to learn that it was a pack with stringent rules. Perhaps if she had been a more rebellious sort it would have bothered her, but as things stood Hanako took it in stride and thought little of it. The Keepers had all laid down all sorts of rules for her to follow, so she didn't imagine that it would be much different here. Oh how little she knew.
"Of course." She nodded, all solemn and serious, yet oblivious to the weight of her words. "I'll do whatever you ask of me."
Not that she'd thought he'd ask much. As far as she was concerned this would be yet another palace visit, somewhere with luxuries and comforts to indulge in. And just as Azure had said, when her Keepers were ready they'd come collect her and then perhaps try to come to some sort of arrangement... Oh but she was getting ahead of herself.

Her elated response caused Azure's brow to raise, though he said nothing more on it. More and more this interaction was throwing him for a loop and leaving him unable to anticipate what would happen next. It was an odd feeling, though the young heir could not say he did not enjoy it. She was easy to command and hurried along with him. Already Az was wondering how he could best utilize her without risking his father's wrath. "First you must learn the basics of what our pack is." He began. "Our wolves are comprised mostly of warriors, some of them exceptionally skilled and some of them in training. We function as a sort of school for those who'd learn the art, but also as an army." It was an easy speech to give, one he'd heard a hundred times before from his parents when they brought in new wolves. "I will bring you to my father, he is the Warlord and along with my mother is the highest authority in the Armada. Above us sits the Empire and upon it's throne the Empress Deathbelle. It is likely you'll never meet her, but if you do she is to be given as much respect as you can possibly muster." He paused, struggling with the next words he had to say. His father would likely skin him if he'd heard this girl refer to him as 'your highness', it was made clear to Az early that the way the Armada was structured was not a kingdom. Az had been reprimanded for merely suggesting they build a throne, surely Sirius would have worse for him if he started acting like he was inheriting the Empire rather then the Armada. "My father does not consider himself a king, and should you address him as such we may have issue. You are not a servant. Be careful with your words, for they reflect on me. I've rescued you, not purchased you. I'm offering you safety and comfort and should my father believe otherwise..." The boy's words trailed off and he suppressed a sigh. "It doesn't matter, just think before you speak. When the two of us are alone you may speak to me however you wish, but in the presence of anyone else you can refer to me as Az or Azure." It frustrated him that he couldn't allow her outward respect around the members of his pack, but anyone would see something fishy was up if she started bowing to him and treating him like a king. None of the Armada wolves acted that way, and if Sirius believed he'd kidnapped himself a slave he'd lose his title as heir for good. His walk slowed as they approached the threshold, shooting a glance over his shoulder towards her and warning her quietly. "Step up, you're walking like a slave behind her master." Before he could bring her into the territory, he had to ensure she understood. "I won't be able to protect you unless you follow these rules, I can't guarantee your sanctuary here if my father does not approve of you. Please try your best to behave like any other wolf. If you have questions, you may ask me and I can help you."

Hanako was silent, her ears tipped forward as she listened. Starting with the basics seemed reasonable enough, but as Azure continued it quickly became apparent that things were not going to be as simple as she'd first assumed. Now that he mentioned it, she supposed that it made sense for the Armada to be an army but the fact that the pack was formed to serve another came as a big surprise to her. She'd never encountered such a set up before and in all honesty, she didn't think that a prince should have to serve anyone, Empress or not. But if Azure wanted her to bow to Empress Deathbelle then she would, it was as simple as that.
Azure then paused and Hanako got the feeling that he was considering his next words very carefully. From her position she couldn't see the look on his face, but from the tilt of his ears she imagined that his expression was tight, thoughtful as the silence went on and on. By no means did she intend to poke or prod him into speaking but she'd be a liar if she said that she wasn't curious, almost dying to hear what he had to say. And then when he finally did speak his words weighed so heavy that her ears fell a little.
There was so much to unpack and so much to take in that Hanako lost her stride, falling behind a little as she mulled over his words. It started off simple enough, his Father was a king but didn't want to be referred as such and that her actions, good or bad, would reflect upon him. All easy, simple to understand stuff but then he made a show of pointing out the fact he had rescued her, rather than purchasing her, and it made her brows draw tight. She assumed that he was simply covering all of his bases but something about it just didn't sit right with her. Maybe it was because if she twisted the words enough it sounded as though he didn't want to purchase her, that he didn't think she was worth the investment. Hanako didn't want to think about that, nope, no thank you.
She pulled in a long steadying breath and just like that her worries were banished, he was offering her safety and comfort and surely that meant something. Or at the very least proved that she was worthy of his time and attention. Either way, she would watch her words from here on out as the last thing she wanted to do was make Azure's life difficult when he was going out of his way to make hers easier.
"Whoops!" Hanako cheeped, quick to catch up with Azure so they were walking more or less side by side. " I just..." For once she struggled to find the words. "Thank you so much for doing this for me. It really means a lot and I know you're going out of your way, but you can trust me. I've got this." Her smile was bright, confident, like pulling on a well fitted mask.

She seemed to understand, and Azure placed upon his face the most pleasant and comforting smile he could muster. His paw lifted and aimed to touch upon her shoulder reassuringly, his head dipping in a nod. "Good, I know you won't disappoint me." His words were chosen carefully, unwilling to let go of the power she made him feel while still attempting to keep the diplomatic mask his brother had recommended. Besides, his father often rescued slaves and gave them a home so why should Hanako be any different? Surely she had some skills that could help her to earn her keep, and if he ever needed an ego boost he knew where to find it. With one last glance towards her he threw back his head and howled at the border, calling his father to him to meet the potential recruit. It would have to go through Sirius or Zee before anything could be official, and Azure felt his best chance was with his breaker-of-chains father who had a soft spot for wolves who needed a protector.

Both of Azure's ears have notches and tears.
Az has a scar across his right eye, a mirror image of his natural born marking.
Azure has saber fangs, bone spurs on his elbows and knees, and the paws/forelimbs of a bear.
Not all of these features are always reflected in his art.

Azure's companions are a very big bat and a young clouded leopard, unless otherwise stated assume they're not with him.

The Warlord was surprised to hear the call from his son at the border. He raised his head as the rich sounds of youth rolled over him. What had his boy gotten into this time? He didn't hesitate to pick up his feet. It didn't sound like an urgent call, but if anyone was giving one of his children grief, they would see the sharp end of his teeth. He moved from the beach onto the border of Weeping Woods. He found find his son there with a strangely marked girl. She had a passive stance, and a bright smile. His glance passed back to his son, and one eyebrow quirked every so slightly.
He expected Mortis to be the one bringing home sons, not Azure. Was he finally showing signs of caring about someone other then himself? An interesting development. He wondered if Venom had aught to do with this. He had spoken to the Ashen heir of nudging Azure in the right direction. "Azure, who's your friend?"

Hanako leaned into his touch, grateful for the support. It didn't seem to come naturally to him but the fact that a prince, someone who's social status was so much higher than her own, was willing to stoop down to her level truly made her feel important. Like he'd chosen to give her special treatment because he thought that she was worthy, deserving of it and more.Riding on that high Hanako remained faithfully by Azure's side as his Father entered the scene. And it was then that she realised that the title of Warlord described him perfectly.
From what Azure had said she expected him to be all stern and serious, the sort of leader who ruled with an iron paw. But then he spoke and his words were calm and casual, reaffirming that the Warlord didn't see himself as a king and that Hanako shouldn't treat him as such. Instead, she waged her tail at him in a wolfish version of a wave. It was a fine line to walk, being friendly and approachable but not too overzealous as to leave a desperate, needy first impression. But like a well trained acrobat, Hanako crossed the proverbial tightrope with ease, as though it was natural to her as breathing. She could be whatever Azure needed her to be, all he needed to do was point her in the right direction.
"I'm Hanako." She introduced herself before Azure could, a subtle show of her lack of respect for him. Hopefully he wouldn't mind too much, she'd apologise later either way, just in case. "Azure told me about your pack and I was wondering if you have space for me? "
That seemed about right, nice but not too kiss-assey.
"I'm not a fighter." She admitted with a shrug, being completely honest for once. If attacked she'd sooner turn tail and run then try to defend herself."But I'm quick on my feet and ready to put the work in to be part of your pack. "
She wasn't exactly telling the truth, as this wasn't the arrangement she and Azure had come to, but given the circumstances it seemed like the right thing to say. She'd never worked a day of her life so far but she supposed it wouldn't hurt to at least try. Besides, how hard could pack life be?

A flash of annoyance crossed Azure's face, though he buried it quickly. Hanako was doing what he'd asked by introducing herself on his behalf, he'd need to keep himself under control and remind himself she meant no real disrespect. "Father." He greeted as she finished explaining herself, dipping his head slightly. She'd outwardly admitted to not being a fighter, and Azure worried Sirius might send her away if she was not willing to learn. "I found Hanako in the woods just north of here, she got separated from her wardens and needs a place to stay until they come for her." The young prince stressed the word as he spoke it, trying to get across to his father that he assumed the girl was previously a captive. The warlord had a soft spot for rescuing slaves and helping them to rise to greatness, and while Azure did not want Hanako to rise nor change in the slightest it would look better to approach it that way. "She won't be any trouble, I'll look after her."
