Sittin' On The Dock Of The Bay

Who the hell can see forever?
Jynn trotted westward coming to a shallow bay. Mangrove trees grew up around the bay and kelp seemed to cover the bottom of the water all around. She watched as the gentle waves stirred the kelp through the aqua water. As she leaned in closer she saw something big and grey swim past and she jumped. "Hey, Ouse! There's something in there. What is it?" She'd never seen a manatee before and wasn't quite sure what she was looking at. Peering down into the water she searched for another one. Hopefully they weren't predatory. She hated alligators and was wary of large creatures that loitered in shallow water.

Ouse Boann
Traveling with Jynn was glorious. The woman was such good, easy company. She felt that they'd become friends in their short time together. Ouse always made friends easily since she was such a happy, level headed woman. As they arrived at this new place, the pale lady stopped to sniff the strange waters. Salt water, of course. Below the water line, a forest of kelp waved back and forth. It looked like the long grasses on the plains, only much more wet. White ears perked as Jynn called her attention to a creature in the water. Padding over to stand beside the leggy woman, Ouse tilted her head and narrowed her pumpkin eyes. There, swimming in the middle of the sea grass was a big round thing. It was like a rock that could swim. She released a hmph of wonder before taking a few steps into the water. The creature turned and looked at them and Ouse barked with laughter. "Ah, Jynn, it looks like a water cow." Ears perked as she looked around the bay. "What else do ye think is down there?" Who the hell can see forever?
Jynn scouted along the bank, carefully balancing on the large roots of a mangrove tree as Ouse explained that it was a water cow. She'd never heard of one of those before. She thought it was rather ugly, but as she watched the strange water creature another suddenly leapt out of the water, its re-entry splashing her.
Jynn yelled in surprise and scrambled back onto solid ground. She shook out her pelt and looked over at Ouse. "I'm guessing whatever that was. Some kind of weird fish?" It was big. She didn't like the size of the creature which she'd later learn was a dolphin. In her mind something that big could potentially try to eat her and she wasn't big on becoming fish food.

At Jynn's exclamation and quit retreat from the water, Ouse laughed aloud and pranced forward, intent on finding out what the creature was that had spooked her new friend. White ears perked as she moved carefully onto one of the larger mangrove roots. Below she could see a few greyish shapes moving, but they were much quicker than the sea cow. Head tilting slightly, she waited for the creatures to come closer. Eventually one, then two, then three surfaced, blowing water out of strange holes on their heads. Ouse blinked her orange eyes and looked back towards Jynn. "A strange fish indeed. It has a breathy hole on top of its head."Carefully turning, Ouse moved back onto land and began padding down the bank, sniffing the various plants and trees. So many creatures inhabited this place. Or, if they didn't inhabit it, they traveled through here. So many smells! Interspersed with the mangroves were other different trees, though they weren't nearly as many. As Ouse walked along, a coconut fell from one of the trees, barely missing her head. It cracked open on a rock in perfect halves and the coconut water was sloshed, but mostly stayed in the one half. Curious, Ouse dipped her tongue in for a taste. "Oh! Jynn, you should try this." The liquid was earthy and had a tinge of sweetness. It was quite pleasing. "Speech" |

Who the hell can see forever?
Jynn had missed seeing the hole at the top of the creatures head and it took her a moment to realize Ouse was referring to some sort of breathing thing when she didn't see any blood. She watched as a few more of the large fish swam on by, a few of the leaping out of the water. She shuddered. Jynn had no idea what they ate but she didn't care to end up as food.
She watched as Ouse headed down the bank and she quickly followed. Something fell from a tree and she bounded over at the older woman's call. "Weird…" She leaned down and sniffed it for a moment before lapping at the liquid inside. "Wow, it's sweet!" She lapped a bit more from her half. "I like this much better than the weird fish. Should we continue west?"

Ouse smiled and nodded, her alabaster brows raising as Jynn commented on the sweetness of the liquid. She took another drink herself before looking up above into the strange palm. Ouse wondered if these falling brown milk rocks ever hit anyone in the head while passing through. She didn't want any part of that. The storyteller liked her brain right where it was. Jynn suggested that they continued west and the pale lady nodded. "Oh, aye. Let us continue. I wonder what else we'll find. Exciting, innit?" Taking one last look into the waters with the strange beasts, Ouse picked up her paws and moved along beside her traveling companion, careful of the thick roots that littered the ground. "Speech" |
