Big Hunting Skills.

Hunting was difficult during the winter. Small game was alright, but larger game was a chore. Resin decided that they needed to hunt intelligently and craftily. The one-eyed woman sent the word out among the pack, inviting any who wished to join her on a large game hunt. A large game hunt... with a twist. Off to the side of the prairie, well out of sight of the large herd of bison that trailed across the land, sat the large cart. If things went as planned, Resin would have quite a bit to haul home. So much, that, if others didn't show themselves, it would be one hell of a task to pull the cart back to the Armada. The day prior, the big woman had been on the prairie, hard at work. She had dug a huge pit into the earth, situating it in a natural pathway that she and others could run the bison down. Now, all she had to do was line the pit with spikes. That was what she was preparing now. Laying on her stomach beside the cart, Resin had a pile of thick saplings. One by one, she was sharpening the points and sitting them on her opposite side. It was a time consuming task, but with more paws, things would go more quickly. "Speech" |

Roan was unable to make the huge commitment to become the Armada’s reaper, but he didn’t feel bad about it. His first devotion was to his wife, and he was alright with that. When he heard that his mother in law had some plans to feed the pack he was eager to help her. True to her word, resin was at the mentioned place at the mentioned time and as the silver marked warrior approached he offered up a quick grin in greeting.
There was much work to be done, and he wasn’t entirely sure what to be expected, but taking in the pit and the spikes, as well as the buffalo he could smell on the breeze. This was going to turn into a fun day. ”Resin.” Her offered with his deep voice as he came to a halt beside the one eyed warrioress. ”Tell me what to do.” He offered himself up as a tool for the woman.

The Warlord appeared shortly behind Io’s husband, looking over the marginally smaller wolf at Resin. He offered the wolf, who he had, mentally at least, begun to call ‘Grandmother of his children’. Mother was still rather a large step he had not taken. He had no memories of his parents, and the idea of taking on another so late in his life felt strange.
Echoing Roan’s sentiment, he took a seat nearby the older woman, and nodded his head to her. ”Your in charge” he directed, not wishing to take the eyes off her well thought out plan because he was the Warlord. He waited for his Warrior to instruct the both of them in what she had done, and what her great hunting plan with a twist was for the day.

Two of the largest wolves in the pack had decided to take the woman up on her offer of a hunt. Roan arrived first and Sirius was a step behind. The scarred woman offered them each a nod. When asked what she would like them to do, Resin motioned towards the pile of saplings. "Sharpen to points. This will be the first step." She sat another spear aside and took up another sapling to sharpen.
"Yesterday and the day before, I dug a large pit in a natural valley. There's a large herd of bison roaming out there. We fill the pit with spears and run the herd down that pathway. Whoever falls in dies. We carry home enough food for the rest of the winter with minimal effort." That was her plan. Easy and to the point. With her leg bothering her so much, she could no longer run long distances. They would be hunting smarter.

Roan gave Srius a quick grin as he appeared behind him, related to both these wolves by marriage the man was eager to do the days tasks beside these two huge wolves. Resin gave them both a nod before explaining straight away. First task was to sharpen the sticks to sharp points and Roan didn’t hesitate to make himself comfortable over his work. With care he handled the spike and began to awkwardly sharpen as Resin explained the plan.
Once the spikes were planted they could herd the giant animals into the pit that the huge she wolf dug. Roan was impressed, it was an excellent plan and would save them hours of work. ”Genius, Resin!” He spoke as he moved on to the next spike to work on.

The Warlord gave a wry smile to the task. It was how he had filled his time when he had broken his leg. He had sharpened so many sticks then, he still had dreams about them. At least it was a good he could do quickly, and do well. He grabbed one from the pile, and set his elongated teeth to the task of filing.
Roan was just as quick to grab a stick, and as they worked, Resin would fill them in on the plan. He was starting to see where Io got her hunting ideas from. They would certainly be taking home a lot of meat, and he was glad the three of them were heavy set wolves. They would be up to the task. “Good plan” he commented alongside Roan, spitting wood from his teeth.

Genius indeed. Resin merely huffed air from her nose as she was complimented. There was no need. She was simply trying to feed the pack. Give them enough food to get them through the worst of the winter and have more to spare for their neighboring pack and ally. Soon all three giants were working at sharpening spears, each in their own way.
While the boys finished up the pile, Resin jumped down into the pit and began digging them hard into the ground, pointed ends upwards, of course. She'd dug the pit large enough that they could trap several bison within. They would simply have to be smart enough to run a group this way rather than just one at a time. Hoofed animals weren't the brightest, but they would know not to run near that area again after hearing the death cries of their brethren.
The scarred woman had been smart enough to dig a set of minimal steps into the side of the pit. It would be easy for the boys and herself to get in and out but the bison wouldn't have a chance. Fitting her batch of spears into the furthermost side of the pit, she waited for Sirius and Roan to finish with their own piles. The sun was high in the sky and set the wilted, golden grasses aglow, further aiding them in their task as it would somewhat blind the bison to the pit.

Roan continued on with his task with care, his hint of perfectionism showing through as he tried to make sure every spike was the same length and the spikes were perfectly rounded at the bark. He only half paid attention to Sirius as he worked on his or Resin as she moved to the pit. Likely Roan would be sittingg there longer than Sirius, but with time he gathered up his spikes and carefully descended into the pit that was so carefully thought up, dug, and about to be used to perfection if he had anything to say about it.
He started to follow Resin’s pattern, his strong form easily driving the stakes into the hard ground, though he felt jarred more than once as he worked as far from the stair as he could get. Though he was breathless from working hard he felt like they were accomplishing a lot, and they would easily provide for the pack for the season to come and then some.

The Warlord tossed aside his last sharpened stick, and then moved forward to examine the pit that his wolf had created. He checked the stability of the sides, looking down at Resin who had already begun grounding her own.
Pushing his pile into the pit, the Warlord jumped in after her - careful to steer well clear of the stakes she had already set. He found a side of his own, and began to push them heavily into the ground. Pushing mud into the sides to add extra stability. “Toss yours down too, Roan” he suggested, instead of having all three wolves in the pit. “What do you plan to cover this with?” he asked Resin, knowing their trap was almost set.

As Roan and Sirius placed their stakes within the pit, Resin rested up top, preparing herself for the hunt to come. She lay on the edge, paws hanging over the side. Ears perked as Sirius questioned her. "Nothing," she spoke. They were in the middle of a prairie with rolling waves of grass, thanks to the more than gentle breeze that crossed the expanse. "The blowing grass will serve as a visual barrier. With one of us on either side and one in the rear, they'll be too distracted by running for their lives to even notice." She knew this from experience. This wasn't her first pitfall rodeo, so to speak.
Once the stakes were in the pit and the boys were out of it, the scarred woman rose and shook out her thick, ashen pelt. The herd grazed at the far end of the prairie. They had a bit of a ways to run them, but it would be worth it in the end. Casting her golden eye towards Sirius and Roan, the dame flashed teeth. "It's a good thing I brought the big cart. We'll be eating well for quite some time." They would all have to pull the cart back.
Thick legs carried the giantess across the plain. She stuck to the taller grasses to hide her approach from the stinking, grazing herd of bison. There were many of them and they were all a little thinner due to the long winter, but she believed this hunt would be worth it. Casting a glance to Sirius and Roan, she motioned for either of them to take a side. She would run them from the back. Once they were both in position, she would begin.

Resin was a master of her craft, she’d done this a time or two, he could tell by how well the plan and structures were laid out. How calm the woman was. Very quickly they laid the trap and all of them removed their hulking frames from the pit. She was more than confident, and that showed in her words and actions as the old wariior took her place at the lead and the group of them went after the herd.
Roan lined himself off to the right side as Resin took center and he’d leave Sirius the shorter distance to walk on the left. He readied himself quietly, at Resin’s behest his coiled limbs would spring and the bear killer would do his part in the chase.

Sirius nodded her head, understanding her plan. He still would have preferred to cover it, but he could see how it would do without. Besides, this was her rodeo, and he would not take control. He laughed softly at her words on how much food they would be eating. It was true that it would be adding well to their stores. He would have to work hard and tirelessly to get the meat they didn’t immediately consume preserved to last. The pack would be well stocked for a while, if this worked as they desired.
He moved to the side, waiting for the run to begin. The three wolves undertaking the task were some of the largest in the pack, and he had no doubt their prey would be running for their lives the moment they caught wind of them. They needed to be panicked enough not to see the trap.

If the boys were ready then she was ready. With each in their positions, She began the hunt. The big woman rushed the herd of bison, very clearly letting herself be seen. At first the giant ungulates simply lowed and stared, but once they saw the other two behemoths with her, they turned and began to run.
As she ran behind them, Resin snapped and snarled. She bit into a heel or a haunch here and there, further spurring the animals into action. Periodically she would glance at the boys, making sure that they were okay. For the most part, all she did was growl and run. That was all that any of them needed to do. They were nearing the pit. The dust rising from beneath the bison's thundering hooves blew towards the pit on the wind, obscuring its presence. This would be too easy.

Roan wanted to get his energy out, he felt like much of his excitement had been pent up for too long. Not for any particular reason but he hadn’t been on such a high stakes high reward hunt in a long time. He was going to have Bison fur to warm his future children for a long time into the future. Out of the corner of his verdant gaze the massive man could see Sirius take up his place at the other side and Resin confidently took up her position in between as their leader.
He really could see his mother in law as a great leader, she was so much different from himself or Sirius. She was wise and knew what she was doing, a blessing to say the least. He could easily see where his wife got her wonderful attributes.
Then they were running.
Roan hit the ground hard, his huge paws carried him at full speed as the three massive wolves chased down the monstrous creatures. He howled deeply from his chest as he ran, just jaws snapped at their heels and he drove them without mercy towards the death pit.

The Warlord rose and accompanied the hunt. Leaping forward, and clicking his teeth together. His elongated fangs grazing the back legs of the closest bison. Showing himself to them, and helping to send them into a frenzy. Likely, he was the largest wolf they had ever seen. One bison that seemed inclined to split from the herd, he scored a deep scratch, pushing his fangs out of their sheths to leave their mark.
It bellowed, truly frightened past reason, the whites of its eyes showing as it ran with all the speed it could muster. Yeah, this herd didn’t stand a chance, not with him and the other giants running them down. He ensure he would angle away and to the side of them when they neared the pit.

The boys did their part and Resin did hers as well. With the cloud of dust obscuring the pit, it was easily hidden from the stamped of bison. As the first of them fell into the pit, skewering themselves on the spiked staves, the rest splintered off and fled.
Skidding to a halt beside the pit, Resin looked down inside. Three giant bison were kicking and flailing upon the spikes. Their blood was seeping out into the dirt below. With the rest of the herd already out of sight, the trio could get to work with processing their catch. "Well done, boys," the big woman growled with pleasure. They would eat well and each of them could take home a bison pelt. A damn good hunt if she did say so herself.
