Smells Like Victory

Natha crept along the ground, moving nimbly over the large tree roots that made up the mangrove forest. While her nose wasn't on par with a canine's it was still sharp enough to catch the scent of decay. Something stank. She was willing to bet that if there were any condors about they could smell it to. She slowed her pace as the smell got stronger and when she peeked through the bushes she saw one. A massive, ugly condor was pulling up scraps of flesh from some sort of small deer. There were crows around as well, heckling the larger bird. Natha turned her head to glance at Naiche and nodded. She was ready whenever he was.

Naiche had made several trips out to the mangroves lately as it was a good spot for Pan to have a field day ant hunting. The trees with rotten areas seemed to create a picnic feast for the pangolin. So while Naiche wasn’t sure where condor was, he seemed to have a comfortable knowledge of the area they walked. His nose had also easily caught the scent of rotten meat. He was relieved when they found the Condor actually on the ground to enjoy its meal. Naiche glanced at Natha as she nodded, turning his shoulders away from her before he needed, slowly moving away and taking a wide path around the condor and the other birds while cautiously remaining out of sight. He got to about a ninety-degree arc from Natha so that while he wasn’t facing the bird's face it would also be the two of them coming in from different directions. The thing was massive! It was certainly not a bird he would have wasted time hunting for food. However, if Naiche could take on a bear or lion then this should be nothing. Naiche could never go back to the pack and say he got bested by a bird. He took a step closer to the rankid meet, flicking his gaze to Natha. Naiche was lean and speedy and he made the most of his speed charging in with the hope the bird didn’t get away before he could get to it. Apparently it flying off wasn’t the problem, as he charged in its wings would come out with a powerful flap just to make sure its talons were ready to meet the charge. This wouldn’t be to chase a fleeing bird but one that looked ready to fight back. With that said leaving the pack border lands behind them to head towards the mangroves. Speech:"Live to fight" Think

Natha held her position, her still form melting into the speckled shadows of the forest floor. Naiche crept around and glanced at her. One of her ears twitched just slightly, her legs tensed as she waited. Her little tail wiggled in anticipation as Naiche sprang forward and rushed the condor. He leapt for it and it twisted to face him with a fierce flap of its wings, talons extended. That was her cue.
The bird's back was to Natha and she leapt for it. Her feline prowess giving her a ferocious ability to jump several times her own body length. She landed on the back of the condor, her front claws digging into its shoulders and her back claws into its back. The sudden unexpected weight forced the bird onto its belly. The great neck swiveled around and a razor sharp beak dove for her. Natha hissed and released one of her great paws as she slapped the bird across the face, claws fully extended. She could feel the wings shifting beneath her as the bird prepared to take off.

Naiche should ask Natha to help him more in fighting off predators! Her attack was perfect against the giant bird! When the bird was suddenly flattened on the ground, the threat of Talons gone Naiche found his job far easier. Naiche lunged in, snapping for the neck and he tasted blood but then the head came back around targeting Naiche’s head, the wolf had to jerk his own head away. The bird didn’t have teeth but no doubt it could put plenty of pressure into its bite. He saw the wings spreading for taking off as well and decided it was time to make sure it had no chance. Instead of going for an in and out attack and the bird’s neck again he jumped to one side and bit at the top portion of one of the bird’s wing, then backing out even as he saw the birds fighting to get it’s talon’s free from Natha’s weight. Naiche figured if he had managed to break a bone in the bird’s wing, or at least do enough damage it shouldn’t be able to fly. A downed bird was a dead one. Speech:"Live to fight" Think

Natha held on for dear life as the bird thrashed. Her claws hooked into the birds flesh anchoring her in place but there was still that horrid beak to tend with. Thankfully, Naiche's weight pinned down one of the birds wings to prevent her being carried off into the air but as she released one of her forepaws again to swipe at the bird the bird snapped its beak over her arm and with a twist of its powerful neck threw her off. She landed with a thump in a nearby bush. Hissing and spitting she bounded out of the bush toward the bird. This time her fangs and claws latched over its other wing, effectively downing it. If she could hold on long enough then hopefully Naiche could break the bloody things neck.

Naiche pinned his ears back when he saw Natha get thrown. The adrenaline thrill of a fight turned to rage that the monster bird dared to harm a packmate. Deep in his throat a snarl came out despite bird being in his mouth. He let go long enough to latch on to its throat. His teeth found the neck up as high as it could near the head. Rage brought that extra strength and focus fully on killing. Talon raked the front of a shoulder and was fully ignored but the bird couldn’t fully get its head into a good spot to bite him. Naiche refused to let go and he felt the talen rake at the same spot again, but this time it hardly did more than stroke the fur, the bird was out of strength. Naiche stepped back blood along muzzle and in mouth as he watched the bird’s head drop to the ground. The monster was dead though a foot did one less kicked as if the body hadn’t figured it out yet. That was the last kick though. The bird wasn’t moving anymore. Naiche looked to Natha only now remembering she had come back into the fight. “are you ok?” The golden wolf was still too much in his adrenaline high to feel his own cuts any more than to realize it was there. Natha on the other hand was thrown off, that was a farther concern. Speech:"Live to fight" Think
