Naiche was getting moe comfortable traveling the various landscapes around his home.  Every bit of land he knew better added a pebble in his wall of confidence and that wall was getting quite sturdy.  Naiche liked this area, the flowing river offered a pleasant background sound and he much preferred the scent of freshwater over the stinging salt that hampered his smell.   Naiche had no interest in fish but he still kept close to the water, smelling out what else had been close to the water.  Where there was plentiful water there would be plentiful prey on land as well as the fish below him.  A variety of tasty scents was there along with things of little interest.   Naiche was just about to follow the scent of rabbit when a different smell hit him.  A predator more dangerous than Naiche was in the area and close. Naiche looked about the brush, and the shadows the brush created.  The sun was still high enough in the sky but it was slowly going down.  A slight wind moved the brush and helped the shadows dance along the ground.  Where was the shadow that would not be brush but instead be the striped beast? A tiger was nearby.  The scent was still too fresh and Naiche wasn’t sure if he was smelling the direction it had gone or come from.  Raising his nose up Naiche scented the air, turning his head sharply as both his nose and eyes informed him where the cat was. The cat lunged forward, clawing at the air in a threatening display.  Naiche hesitated for while he loved a good fight attempting to kill the massive beast without a partner seemed suicidal.  Naiche backed up, keeping his gaze cautiously on the cat.  Apparently backing up wasn’t good enough as it snarled again before charging him.  Naiche didn’t dare run, that would mean turning his back to it.  Naiche showed all his teeth, muscles tensed and hackles high, pivoting away so that the cat’s first strike missed.  Naiche snapped quickly for a front paw before bounding off.  He had missed, but now the cat knew he would fight back. Lynvarr had been working his way back north when he ran right into a massive river. It wound its way through the south and was so wide that Lyn cast aside all thoughts of swimming across it. He was a fair swimmer but he didn't want to risk his life on such a crossing. He figured he'd just work his way around and do a bit of exploration in the process.

Lynvarr followed along the river's edge when an unusual scent caught his attention. What was that? It made his fur stand on end and he debated turning around and heading back when he heard a snarl. Lyn instinctively slung down and that was when he spied a tiger attacking a yearling. Aw, hell! The cat spun around for the yearling and Lynvarr sprinted forward, slamming his chest into the cat's left hind leg as his jaws dove down over the cat's tail, right near the base. The tiger yowled and twisted around, trying to claw him. Lyn shuffled and tried to hold on but the tiger was flexible and he was forced to let go and bolt away as the creatures claws broke the skin of his left side.

Aw, hell! The cat spun around for the yearling and Lynvarr sprinted forward, slamming his chest into the cat's left hind leg as his jaws dove down over the cat's tail, right near the base. The tiger yowled and twisted around, trying to claw him. Lyn shuffled and tried to hold on but the tiger was flexible and he was forced to let go and bolt away as the creature's claws broke the skin of his left side. Naiche was surprised and relieved the other wolf had appeared. Now they could win! Whether it was to kill or just chase the thing off the tables had now turned. With the cat’s attention now on the older wolf behind it Naiche lunged in and snapped at the front leg closest to him and then darting straight backward as the cat turned around attempting to repay in kind. Naiche gave the cat an open-mouth grin. Kitty knew it couldn’t attack them both at once. The mass of orange and black fur didn’t seem to like the grin and lunged for Naiche who quickly darted out of range. That was right, Naiche knew so long as it was focused on wanting to kill him, it wasn't able to attack the other threat behind it. Speech:"Live to fight" Think

Lynvarr circled back, taking stock of the situation as he eyed the tiger. The younger male darted forward and snapped at the tiger, keeping the large cat's focus on himself. With the tigers back facing him Lynvarr dove forward for the cat's left hind leg, sinking his jaws into the cat's flesh just above the heel where vulnerable tendons lay. He dug in and ripped, letting go and dancing out of the way as the cat whirled around to try and get him. Blood stained his fangs and he licked it off quickly, eyeing the cat as it whipped its head from side to side, trying to figure out which wolf to focus on. It was swiftly dawning on the cat that its hopes of an easy fight were going down the drain. Lynvarr growled, his hackles standing on end to make him look even bigger. It was time for the cat to leave, he'd give it one more chance and if it still didn't back down he'd be forced to attack again and cause significant, maybe even permanent, damage.

Naiche would have preferred the cat choose one target over the other.  It’s indecision had it in a spot ready to retaliate from any further attack.  Naiche lowered his head, showing off all his teeth and walked closer to the cat, he made it the center of his focus.  Whatever the other wolf did wouldn’t be noticed right then.  All he wanted was for the cat to attack. He found the spot the had the cat shifts it focus on him, saw its muscles bunch as it leapt towards him.  Naiche jumped back, snarling and snapping at the air.   Naiche had initially thought of dodging and returning with an attack but quite frankly he didn’t see a good opening that wasn’t putting his life at risk.  Still, it had made the giant cat focus on him instead of the other wolf for a precious second. Lynvarr tenses, his legs coiling beneath him as he waited for the cat to make a decision. He took the break to catch his breath. The tiger leapt for for Naiche and Lynvarr snarled diving again for the cat's already injured leg. His fangs sank in deep to the tiger's ankle and once again he shook his head. The tiger yowled and stumbled, twisting back around to claw at him. He let go and the cat lay there for a moment, tail slapping the ground as it hissed, clearly in pain. The tiger then leapt to its feet and limped away, clearly having trouble putting weight on its rear hind leg. Lynvarr hadn't broken anything but he'd damaged enough of the muscle to inhibit the cat's movement. Panting he shook his coat and glanced to the yearling to make sure the other was alright.

Naiche was more than fine, he looked elated about the whole thing.  There was nothing like a life and death fight to get the blood pumping!  Alone had been a somewhat different matter but pairing up in a fight was becoming a favorite activity! No injuries this time, he had gotten lucky.  He looked to the other wolf to make sure it was unharmed also, “you good?  Thanks for the help.” Naiche glanced back to the cat as it fled, “that was fun!” That had filled his quote for needing to hunt today though.  Amazing how short a fight could be yet still live him tired for a bit when it was over, but a very happy sort of tired.
