Moose Drool

They were off again on another, hopefully glorious hunt. Halla had been out hunting deer when she ran across Star and Wyndelin who were also spending the night in the Weeping Woods after the successful boar hunt. She was more interested in the hide and promised to help Wynd take the meat back to his pack when she caught the scent of moose. She immediately recalled the sick one she'd hunted with Resin. The were going through the east side of the Weeping Woods when Aslatiel joined them. Halla bent her head and sniffed the ground, eventually tracking the moose to the base of Mount Volkan, among the trees of the Redbud Nook. It was definitely ill in some way. It staggered and seemed disoriented and confused. The cow stopped and leaned against one of the trees, bending it over with her weight. Oh boy… this was going to be an experience. "Talk" |

Wyndelin was mostly curious about seeing the muse. He wondered if it was sick like the last one he'd seen this far south, but he wasn't quite sure about hunting one. Last time had been pretty nerve-wracking. Still, the group had had good luck so far. What was one more? As long as they used caution and common sense it would likely turn out alright. He pulled up alongside Halla, eyeing the moose as it stumbled and staggered. It leaned up against a tree then fell onto its front knees. It stared at the ground for a moment before getting back to its feet. Wyndelin wrinkled his nose. He wasn't quite sure what was wrong with it other than it was in really rough shape. "Talk" |

Since Asla slept in one of the trees in the Weeping Woods, she had seen the trio of wolves prepare the next day. She'd invited herself along, not quite ready to give up her company just yet. As the foursome walked along, they came upon a moose. Grey ears instantly perked. She hoped that the rest of them were thinking what she was thinking. Lavender eyes flashed as the girl grinned and motioned towards the moose with a pull of her head. It didn't matter that it was sick, she just really like killing things. "Shall we then?" There would be a lot of meat to distribute. She could help take things wherever it was needed. Perhaps she could borrow her aunt Io's cart.

The others caught up and Halla turned to the yearling and nodded. Yes, they might as well give it a shot. The moose was clearly dying, the least they could do was put it out of its misery and get a good meal. Of course, the brain would need to be left alone but that was fine. There were more ways to tan a hide than just the brain, assuming she decided she wanted to keep the hide. "Let's just go for it. Try and work at getting its legs out from under it then whoever is free can go for the throat." The moose's hooves were the most dangerous weapon on the cow and she was grateful they didn't have to deal with the antlers of a male. Still, one good kick to the head could kill a wolf. They needed to be careful with an animal this unpredictable. "Talk" |

Wyndelin looked from the yearling to Halla as the older woman laid out what her thoughts were. It sounded good enough to him. He wished this one was stuck in the branches but it seemed to be pretty bad off. Likely it would stumble or be more vulnerable when it tried to kick. Wyndelin dove for the side of the moose cow, fangs snapping at the hind end. The moose immediately tried to kick him. Wyndelin dove out of the way and continued to snarl and bite, testing the creature's balance and searching for a weakness. How fast would it move, was it particularly poor on any leg? The moose whipped around to get after him then stumbled. It regained it's balance quickly but circular motions seemed particularly rough on it. "Talk" |

With the rest of the group on board, Aslatiel set off. She was more than eager. It had been a long, long time since she'd had this much fun. If they could keep doing this sort of thing, she'd be in heaven. Perhaps she could strike an agreement with this lot. A hunting agreement of sorts. Whenever they were in the area, they could call on her to hunt with them. It sounded like a good deal to her.
With Halla having explained her idea, Aslatiel rushed the moose. Others went for legs and she did the same, going for the thick, meaty hind knee. As the beat swung awkwardly, the girl hung on. At the last minute though, she lost her grip and went rolling across the ground. Damn! Back on her feet, Asla gave her body a shake and jumped back into the fray, going again for a leg, but this time a heel instead of a knee.

Halla flinched as she saw the yearling get rolled by the moose but the girl was back on her feet a moment later. Halla could appreciate the girls spunk. She focused back in on the task at hand. As the others harried the moose and caused it to stumble, Halla leapt onto the moose's back, fangs latching over the back of its neck. Her sudden weight forced the moose back down before it could regain its footing. It shook its powerful neck, still bleating in distress. She held on as tight as she could as it bucked and flailed. It was practically on its side, only the front half struggled to stand as the back legs shook and jerked in uncoordinated movements. They were close. All she had to do was hang on for a bit longer. Wyndelin danced out of the way as the moose tried to hurt him. The last thing he wanted to do was get kicked in the face by such a monster of a cervid. As Asla moved in for one of the back legs Wyndelin dove for the other. The moose suddenly jerked forward causing him to lose his grip. He blinked and a moment later he saw the yearling knocked to the ground. The moose wasn't making this easy. Star dove in and got it to stumble and then Halla was on its back. Wyndelin dove forward, seizing hold of the back of one of the jerking legs. He quickly shuffled back, stretching the limb as far as he could as he tried to drag it behind the animal to prevent it getting back to its feet and causing more damage. "Talk" |

With the moos partially downed, Aslatiel did the same as she'd done with the elk. The girl launched herself at its neck with all of her might, forcing it to the ground. She didn't weigh much, but she would surely made it more difficult for the ungulate to get back on its feet once more. She sank her teeth into the side of its face, puncturing one eye. The beast bellowed beneath her. Claws sank into its neck as she held on for dear life. Hopefully this would allow the rest to do what they needed to do to end the moose's life.
