Once more Hattori found himself surrounded, this time by a clan of hyenas. They made the strangest of sounds as they circled him, cackling and hollering as though this was all just a big joke to them and he couldn't understand the punchline. The dholes had been nothing more than an annoyance and he'd dispatched them with relative ease but the same couldn't be said for these beasts. They were larger and far more imposing, Hattori knew this wouldn't be an easy fight if it came down to it. His gaze flicked from one hyena to the next in quick succession, counting till he concluded there were about a dozen or so individuals. Perhaps even more nearby. He let out a displeased tsk, the tension was slowly mounting and Hattori suspected if he didn't make the first move then they soon would. They might have been content just to badger and poke at him for now but how long it be before they tried to up the ante?
He ought to have cut his loses and made a swift exit but that line of thought just didn't sit well with him. He had done nothing wrong and he reserved the right to defend himself if need be. He was simply just biding his time, waiting for one cocky individual to get too close and then- he lunged forth, slashing a youngster across the face and whipping around to swat another aside as they attempted to take advantage of his distraction. Fighting them all of at once was impossible nor was that what he was aiming for here, he simply intended to intimidate his way to victory. To inflict enough, showy damage as possible so that the others would simply turn tail and run. It was a game of bluffs and one Hattori had played before with much success. And his talons as ever were more than capable of such a job, blood splattered to the ground and the hyenas tone shifted. A touch wary.

Lynvarr travelled southward from his home in Waterfall Peak down to the grasslands of the west, seeking new prey to experience. Summer still allowed for good travel even if it was getting hot. Along the way he'd run into, well, what he thought was a man but apparently this one didn't always identify as such. It was more of a headache than he cared to deal with so he just went along with it. The other wolf was a hunting enthusiast so he figured together they could take down some decent game and both feed well.
They'd worked their way further into the territory when the sound of hyena's caught his attention. He wrinkled his nose and would have turned to leave if he hadn't recognized another scent. The many he'd fought several predators with. After a quick conversation with Stjarna he raced toward the source of the scent only to find the other man surrounded. Lynvarr dove in without a second thought, seizing a large male hyena by the back of it's left leg and hauling it backwards, as it twisted around to bite at him he crunched down sharply on its nose, sending it whimpering and yowling.

Star was delighted to have a hunting partner who knew his way around some of the western lands. According to Lynvarr the sweetgrass basin was the best place to hunt mule deer and between the two of them the Aracari hoped to feast well today. With enough food they'd be good for several more days before needing to hunt. When the sound of hyenas drifted across the basin Stjarna frowned. They didn't care much for the carrion eaters but as Lynvarr said he smelt someone he knew they had to go along and join the fight.
A large group of hyena's had encircled a horned man that Star remembered seeing when battling a walrus. Lynvarr dove right into the fight and Star quickly followed, going after an adult female hyena. The creatures scattered and shuffled about, confused at the arrival of two more wolves.

Apparently his scare tactics wouldn't be necessary, three wolves was most certainly better than four. Especially since the wolves who appeared on the scene were ones he knew were more than capable of holding their own, at least when they out numbered their adversary. But what about now when the tables were turned? The hyenas at least didn't seem very pleased, they scattered in the confusion, some fleeing to the outskirts of the Basin whilst a handful of more bold individuals remained. Either way the odds had been considerably evened.
On the move once again, Hattori was quick to sweep the nearest hyena off its paws and pin it down. His jaws met the creatures throat and he tore through the fur into the muscle beneath and clamped down, cutting of it's airway as it kicked at his shoulders in an attempt to push him away. Amongst all of the noise and chaos even more hyenas began to flee, squealing all the while as those foolish enough to stay were brought down and injured one after another.

A yelp of pain emitted from Lynvarr's own jaws as a hyena's fangs grazed his left hip as he scrambled to the side a bit too slow. It was difficult to fight while keeping track of multiple opponents. No sooner than he dodged the one hyena then another charged at him straight on. Lynvarr ducked as it tried to bite his face, catching it by the throat. He pushed forward sharply, tipping the hyena onto its back but he was again forced to let go of his hold as two more hyenas raced towards him. Still, he felt he'd done enough damage to the one to keep it from being too much of a threat. Now if he could just deal with these other nuisances. Eyeing a large, dark-colored hyena he leapt forward seizing it's left elbow and thrashing his head violently while trying to keep an eye out for the other one.

Star bit into the back left leg of the female hyena. She twisted around to get at the wolf and Star quickly shuffled to the side. Out of the corner of their eye star saw another hyena heading straight for them. With a twist of the head, Star flung the female hyena straight into the new attacker. They crashed together and yelped in surprise before scrambling to their feet. The female hyena was limping but certainly not out of the fight. The male charged right away, fangs open and bared for the wolf's left shoulder. Star skidded to the right, head diving in low as fangs latched around the hyena's left knee. Star bit down hard and thrashed his head, seeking to rip the patella from the hyena's leg. If Stjarna could slow down the hyena's that were attacking them then maybe they could start picking them off one by one.

History had a way of repeating itself with these sorts of encounters. Blood dripped from Hattori's maw as he pulled back, allowing the hyena to scamper away whilst it still had the strength to do so. His point had been made and it seemed as though the others were playing their part just as well. He could have left it there and waited for the tension to die down but there was one hyena lingering in the corner of his vision who, for one reason or another, was intent on pushing its luck. Perhaps all of this was just a game to these creatures, given their large numbers they clearly had little to fear when it came to most predators, but the same couldn't be said for this instance. If nothing they would perhaps learn that wolves were not to be messed with.
Whipping around Hattori snapped his teeth and the hyena practically leapt out of it's skin in surprise, only just managing to dodge the attack by a hairs breadth. Taking advantage of it's flightiness, Hattori broke into a charge and chased the hyena done, driving it to the edge of the basin as he had done so with the other members of the hyena clan.

Lynvarr's fangs ripped through tendons, crippling the hyena but he wasn't able to do more severe damage as out of the corner of his eye he saw another hyena racing up behind him. He let go and dodged to the side just in the nick of time. The attacking hyena wasn't able to slow down in time and ended up crashing into the hyena with the injured elbow. Lynvarr grinned as the two hit the ground. While they were scrambling to disentagle themselves Lynvarr dove in on the belly of the already injured hyena. Fangs ripped through hide, spilling blood as the creature yowled. The other hyena decided that it had seen enough and it quickly beat a hasty retreat. The other one struggled and spasmed but soon passed from the severity of its injuries. Lynvarr looked up to see how the other's were doing, noting a few more hyena's retreating from the wolves.

Star kicked off, powerful hind legs digging into the dirt as the wolf pushed forward using their larger size and weight to pull the hyena off its feet while at the same time dislocating the knee. Star didn't stop racing forward and instead just dropped the hyena while continuing to run. Two more hyena gave chase. Star skidded to a stop then whirled around catching one of the hyena's by its front leg, sending it toppling to the ground from the sudden stop on its forward momentum. The other hyena raced in from behind and Stjarna caught it by the throat, biting hard and thrashing. Blood splattered to the ground and when it stopped flailing then Star would let go. The crippled hyena beat a hasty retreat as did the other one. It seemed the message was getting through that the wolves were not going to be easy pickings.

The hyenas weren't laughing now, or at the very least they ought to not be. Hattori let out a long sigh, his ear flicking a little as he observed those who lingered afar, it was clear they had little interest in trying their luck but they wished to be an annoyance all the same. Making just as much noise and ruckus as they had before, perhaps it was simply just in their nature to be be insufferably annoying. Though at the very least the trio of wolves had taken them down a peg or two, reminded them that there were plenty of wolves in these parts for a reason. Or maybe not, given the fact he'd run into these wolves more times than what would pass as a mere coincidence. It seemed unlikely that they were following him with ill intentions in mind, since they'd helped him a time or two, but he would have been awfully naive if the thought didn't at the very least occur to him.
"Be seeing you." He rumbled with a polite dip of his head as turned to venture on.
