Heard It Through The Grapevine
Magnus

She'd heard that Magnus was back. It had been a long time since they'd interacted, but she remembered liking the man quite well. Since their last encounter, the cream and grey girl had grown considerably. She'd never be tall, but the baby fat had melted away under hard training and constant activity. She was turning into a lovely young woman, though she wasn't fully there yet. Since one of her favorite memories of herself and Magnus was their hunt together, she decided that they should repeat that memory. Boar had worked their way into the Weeping Woods. Aslatiel wasn't a fan of that since she spent a lot of time there. Pigs were smelly things and their shit was acrid and disgusting. If they could see them out while getting some dinner, all the better. Aslatiel sent her snow leopard, Ashur, to collect the man. Hopefully he wouldn't keep her waiting too long. In the mean time, she sat in her tree and filed her nails to needle points with a piece of rock. "Speech" |

When the snow leopard had come to retrieve him, he was eager to follow with the promise of a hunt with Aslatiel. He hadn't seen the girl since he returned and he was eager to catch up with her. He was quite fond of her and her attitude, spunkiness, whatever the best term for it was. She deserved as much as Mortis and Azure if you asked him, but whatever Sirius and Zee's reasoning for not allowing her the same chance at the crown wasn't his business, regardless of how much he wished it was. He could only wonder how she felt about it, but he knew that if it were him, he'd be angry.
The walk to Aslatiel wasn't long, and soon he was led to a tree which she was up in and filing her nails with a rock. Interesting. Were they not already sharp enough, being cat claws? Guess you could never have claws that are too sharp. Shrugging it off, he smiled up at her. "Good to see you, Aslatiel." He greeted, a slow wag of his tail indicating his excitement to see her.

Ashur did his duty well. A short time later, both the leopard and the wolf came into view. Ashur leaped up into the tree and took Asla's place a she dropped to the ground. The young woman, surprisingly, wrapped Magnus up in an embrace. Did she mention that she liked him? He was one of the few wolves that had seen what she was and accepted her for it. "Good to see you too," she admitted. "Glad to have you back." Stepping back, Asla sat and grinned. "I was hoping that you might want to hunt with me today. There are some smaller wild pigs that have moved into the area and I've a mind to dispatch some of them." The young wolf gave her head a playful tilt to the side, lavender eyes lifting at the corners as she smiled. "What do you say?" "Speech" |

As the girl brought herself down from the tree and wrapped her arms around him, Magnus returned the gesture with a smile. It was really good to see the girl again, and she had grown a bit too! Mortis had grown a lot since he'd seen him last, so he wasn't in the least surprised that Asla grew too. She wasn't the largest of the Fatalis pups, but she had more than enough personality to make up for it. Big things came in small packages, right?
Magnus held her close for a moment and gave a slight squeeze before letting go. "Glad to be back, too." He offered a soft chuckle. He never once thought he'd prefer being in a pack over being a loner, but he was a better man within the walls of the Armada. Old habits were starting to reappear while he was out on his mission, so being home with the routine of things was more than what he needed.
At the mention of a hunt, his tail began to slowly wag again. He enjoyed hunting with Asla the last time and was always ready to do it again. "Of course. They grow into such destructive things as they get bigger. Better to cull them while they're young." He offered a small nod. Boars were not easy to deal with as they got bigger, it was a good thing to take care of now.

Magnus hugged her in return and eagerly agreed to hunt with her. Asla couldn't stop smiling. She had such a soft spot for the mangled-eared man. Her own tail swishing back and forth with happiness and excitement, she turned and gave her skull a pull, motioning for him to follow. "They've been rooting up the branches of the willows too. Some of the trees are getting weak because of it." Aslatiel motioned to one of the smaller willows that they passed. The roots had indeed been mangled as the pigs dug about in the dirt. Large swaths of grass had been turned into shitty smelling mud. It was very gross. As they neared the place where she knew they liked to congregate, Asla could already hear the grunting. The young wolf brought her maw close to Magnus' ear and spoke softly. "I think if we kill one or two and leave their bodies as a warning, the others might run off." Peering through the foliage, she noted several smaller pigs. They looked like they were just old enough to be out on their own. They were distracted by one another, so she imagined this would be pretty easy. Separating from Magnus, Aslatiel made her way closer to the pigs. They still had no idea and continued grunting and rough housing with one another. Taking as deep of a breath as she dared through the stench, the striped girl erupted from the brush. The pigs squealed and scattered, but she had her target in sight. Hopefully Magnus had chosen one too. Asla tore after the pig, one paw extending and her claws clipping its hock. Instantly the rich, tangy smell of blood filled the air and the pig squealed in pain. Ah, yes. Asla loved the sound. "Speech" |

If the pigs were digging at the trunks of the trees, tearing up the roots of the willows, it wouldn't be long before the woods would die and they'd lose an important buffer between them and other packs. Not to mention these were the woods that housed ample amounts of predator and prey alike for training and hunting. They needed these woods alive and flourishing to aid in their training and to keep their cache full of both supplies and food. Besides, he was pretty sure Aslatiel enjoyed hanging out in these woods more than the rest of them and he wouldn't be very happy if some rotten pigs destroyed it.
They moved along until the pigs were close enough to hear and he listened to her words about leaving the prey for the others to scatter. Magnus wasn't so sure that they would leave with the carnage of their kind spread around. They were omnivores and known to eat anything that was dead. Magnus was almost certain it would bring more into the area than chase them off, but he'd never directly dealt with the animals. Instead, he decided she likely knew more than him and gave her a nod before she bolted off to hunt one for herself. Magnus wasn't too far behind, slinking through some shrubs to target one of the pigs and launch when it was least expecting.
He wasn't as fast or as armed as the girl, but he was stronger with his size on his side. Jaws reaching for a heel as the pig squealed and ran, Magnus' teeth grazed the hock of the animal and tore through the skin enough to cause a limp as the hog kept running for it's life.

Teeth snapped at the heels of the pig and it turned on a dime, running in the opposite direction. Aslatiel laughed aloud at the sudden turn and spun to continue giving chase. Both she and her pig ran past Magnus and his. Tricky little bastards that they were. She wasn't able to check on the older wolf's progress, but she managed to see that he was still giving chase. That was good at least. Asla was closing in on her pig. She dove forward, forelegs outstretched. Paws clipped the hind legs and both girl and pig went rolling through the dirt. She'd have a few bruises, but no big deal. In an instant she was up, but so was the pig. Before it ran off again, she dove on it, pinning it to the ground. The pig squealed, but that didn't matter. It couldn't run, so now it was time to die. Before she killed it though, she spared a glance over her shoulder to see how Magnus had fared. "Speech" |

The pig was squealing and running to get away but with the new injury to it's leg it wasn't making it very far very fast. Magnus closed in on the animal and made one final launch, grabbing it by the foreleg and causing it to fall allowing him to get one quick bite through the thick hide. Tearing a gash into the flesh of the animal near just behind the armpit, the pig would bleed out soon and it howled in pain as it did. Hopefully the sound of its agony and death would ward off some of the rest of the pigs, but he doubted it. It's friends were probably already watching and waiting to see if they'd get a meal out of their fallen friend.
Panting, he looked over at Aslatiel and watched as she fought with her pig. She was making it along, bringing hers down with about the same speed as him. They were fast hunters, quickly wiping out their target without giving them much chance for escape. If only these were the only two pigs around. "Do you want to keep hunting or take care of these?" He asked, motioning between the two pigs as he did.

Once she was sure that Magnus was well and had made his kill, Aslatiel wasted no time in ending the struggles of the squealing, flailing pig. She ripped open its belly with teeth and claws, leaving its entrails to pool on the ground. Licking the blood from her maw, she turned as Magnus addressed her. "Hmm... Now that we've killed them, we might as well eat them, don't you think?" The girls stomach gave a little growl and she shrugged with a smile. Grabbing one of the pigs legs in her maw, she began to pull. The guts trailed out behind it in a macabre line, but oh well. Let that be a lesson to those filthy swine. With her claws, she separated the entrails from the carcass, leaving them where they lay. The girl then pulled her kill beneath the sprawling, hanging branches of a large willow. It was nice to eat out of the sun. Settling down, she began to feel, filling her own belly with, well... pork belly. Asla cast her galaxy gaze to Magnus. "I really am glad that you're back, you know." "Speech" |

Magnus shrugged and laughed at her words, agreeing that they should take a moment to have a meal. It wasn't his favorite meal by any means, but he did work up quite the appetite by chasing down and killing this pig and maybe seeing its friend with a few teeth marks and missing pieces would remind the others not to stick around. One could hope, right? Magnus tore into his pig, ripping the flesh from it's bone at the tip and chowing down on the fine muscle meat of the rump roast. Raw meat was definitely better than cooked meat, although before his time in the Armada he'd never considered cooking ones meat before eating it.
As Aslatiel drug her pig over into the shade and spoke, he smiled up at her with blood staining his face and dripping from his chin. He was glad to be back too. "I'm glad to be back too. It's not as fun as it used to be running around alone all the time." His smile faded briefly but picked back up after a moment. He was also glad that she was happy to have him back, and that she wasn't upset, or butthurt, that he'd been gone on a secret mission that he wasn't aware wasn't secret.

Mouth full of meat and little jaws bloody, Asla cast an inquisitive look towards the brute with the cropped ears. "I'm surprised my father didn't rip your tail off for being away for so long." She knew that there had to be some sort of reason behind it. Sirius hadn't shared news about some sort of secret mission. Then it wouldn't have been a secret, would it? So yes, Asla was digging a bit. Why would Magnus abandon them only to be allowed back in with open arms. The entire pack knew that the only way out was to fight. Unless you were her grandmother, anyway.
A small wolf had a small stomach and Asla's hunger was soon sated. With both front paws, she pushed the dead swine away from her. The girl then went about cleaning the blood from her maw and paws, careful to get the muck off of her claws as well. "Shall we head back? Might as well just leave them here." She had doubts about the death of their brethren warding off the rest of the sounder, but what else could she do other than come back every day and pick them off one at a time? Hey... that actually didn't sound like too bad of an idea.

Magnus happily ate his pig, filling his stomach quickly and leaving him quite full. Perhaps he was eating a bit much, but who didn't want a good, large meal once in a while? At Asla's words, he picked up a bit and shrugged with a light laugh. "He sent me on a mission to look for Malalia and where she might have gone. I wasn't supposed to be gone for so long, but I went a bit further than I intended just in case." He didn't care if it was much of a secret anymore. He was sure the only reason why was to keep the pack from thinking Sirius was waiting too long on a lost cause... but she was one of the highest ranking members. Magnus didn't try to understand his thought process on it, he just did what he was told.
Rising from his place with his pig when she asked if he was ready to leave. He nodded and stepped away from the pig, ready and waiting for the girl so they could head back home.

Asla wrinkled her nose as Magnus told her of his secret mission to find Malalia, of all wolves. "Well, I'm glad you didn't find her." She would have hated it if the adopted bitch had returned. Things were much more comfortable in the Armada without her. She'd been getting way too close to Valhalla for Asla's liking for one. For two, she just didn't fucking like her.
With her belly full, Asla rose and shook out her coat. "Let's head home then." Tongue flicking over her maw to make sure that it was clean, she led the way, though only by a bit. Once Magnus began to move as well, the pair padded along side by side.

"I am too, if I had to be honest." He could trust Asla to not spread word of his dislike towards the girl. It wasn't that he didn't like her specifically, he just didn't like the high ranking position she somehow earned and how she up and abandoned the Armada shortly after. She wasn't ready, Magnus knew that much sitting at the meeting when she had risen to her rank. Now, without her holding it up, he could prove his worthiness to the rank and the Armada itself. It would only be a matter of time before Sirius called someone to the power, but Magnus couldn't help but hope that it would be him.
When she suggested going home, Magnus nodded and fell into place beside her as they made their way home.
