Laying Low in the Shadows {Alena}

The forest was bright, brighter than he preferred. And the snow sparkled and shown. It burned his eyes. Dempsey's dark grey coat stood out like a sore thumb against the white of the forest, but the black bark of the trees allowed for significant coverage. While he walked he allowed his mind to just go blank of everything except his surroundings. He didn't want to think about his father or the mother he never knew. It just made him bitter and cold, and he could not afford to be any colder in this landscape. He was glad he was alone to wander these desolate woods. Another soul to bother his very existence was the last thing he wanted. Well, unless it was a female existence. He could deal with some mindless activity to stimulate his body and stop this endless train of thoughts.
As that sweet, sweet idea flashed through his head he caught a whiff of something on the wind. The light breeze picked up again after it had changed directions, and it told him more about what he had suspected. There was a femmae lurking about. A smile did not grace his lips at the satisfaction of his thoughts coming to fruition, rather his nose just twitched a little and one eyebrow raised. Changing his route he headed in the direction of this new sent. He didn't plan to talk too much to this female. No, why would he do that? What a pointless activity indeed. Dempsey knew he didn't have to talk overly much to get what he wanted. His big muscular frame was proof of that.
