Úlfr was especially excited for today's hunting trip. They were going south into Auster to hunt some new and exotic game and he couldn't wait to see and taste what the new continent had to offer. The boy trailed along after Stjarna. He was on the verge of turning 9 months old and was looking much more like an adult wolf if still a bit lanky. When they arrived at the plains he moved next to the older wolf and settled down to watch the strange animals that grazed in front of them. They were huge! Walking muscles with large horns. He wasn't for sure what they were but if they could bring one down it would feed a pack for days. Of course that was assuming they could bring one down and even then this was more for practice. They'd kill one, eat their fill then bring back what they could… if they were still going to try. Stjarna looked at him but Úlfr didn't know what to say. He still wanted to hunt them but he knew it was going to be dangerous.

Another day, another hunt. Hattori travelled further afield and eventually found himself on Auster once more. The beasts that laid ahead were unlike anything he'd seen back home in Nippon, large and brawly, with more muscle mass than he thought possible. This would not be an easy hunt, but since when had the shinobi ever hoped for such a thing? In the distance he recognised a wolf, greyish and white like starlight, and noticed that they were lingering around with another wolf by their side. Looking for more wolves to join the fray it seemed, a tale as old as time and just as familiar. Making no attempt to mask his footsteps Hattori approached from behind and stood at a conversation distance. His eyes scanned the herd, looking for the odd one out, a weak or sickly individual that they'd stand a chance at taking down.
"That one." Hattori rumbled once he'd spotted her, a female gaur who had a nasty gash down her side. Inflicted by claws from the looks of it, perhaps a lion or tiger. Though she was putting on a good show of strength he could smell the stink of infection from here, if she wasn't sick she soon would be.

Coea's wandering feet had carried her around and around these new lands, and she hadn't grown bored. She had, however, felt even more restless with her purposeless wandering and was ready to, if not settle down, at least seek to give her wandering meaning. So when her gaze fell upon a pair of wolves and a pup watching one of the huge bovine creatures that called this continent home, Coea lit up with anticipation. Ah, a hunt, just the thing to liven up a dreary journey! She crept on quiet feet to introduce herself to the would-be hunters. "You seem to be in need of another hunter!" she said, somehow managing 'hearty' even in a low tone. "I would be pleased to assist you if you wish!" They were all only males, including the child who'd had the misfortune of being born a boy, the poor thing, but they would do for something so violent as a hunt.

Úlfr watched the herd intently then turned as he heard paw steps. He grinned as he saw the familiar man with the horns who had helped them on a few hunts before. The man had spied the injured cow and Úlfr found himself feeling much more comfortable with the idea of this hunt. They were soon joined by another woman who looked impressively fit and dangerous. Star introduced themselves so Úlfr joined in. "And I'm Úlfr." Stjarna nodded at him, giving him the single to start and the youth immediately started stalking toward the gaur. The process sounded pretty similar to how they'd hunted bison. He was glad it was familiar. While he was interested in exotic prey there was inherent danger in attacking new animals for the first time. Úlfr slinked close then darted out of the grass, snarling and snapping at the nearest gaur. They tossed their heads and turned, starting to stampede.

Hattori nodded, once again willing to follow the lead. Wolves tended to have a tried and tested way of hunting and it worked, so why attempt to fix what wasn't broken? Taking a brief moment to stretch and limber himself up, Hattori kicked off into a spring, snarling and barked as he put on a loud and aggressive show. The quicker the herd spooked the better, whilst he doubted that he alone would be enough to do the trick he knew the others were beside him. Sure enough the herd startled, ears flicking as they snorted and huffed before breaking out into a stampede. The ground rumbled beneath his paws as he wove through the crowd, narrowing in on the fleeing cow who was doing her best to try and blend into the safety of the herd. Hattori was quick to cut her off, moving to her left side to stop her being lost in the sea of horns and hooves.

The first male explained their plan, and while it felt distinctly... odd, and a little wrong, to follow a male's orders, she listened anyway. It was a sound enough plan. Simple, so it would be easy for the males to follow. Besides, he had phrased it politely and properly as a proposal, which mollified the discomfort. "Very good! We shall feast like royalty tonight," she agreed with a grin. "Well met, Stjarna and Ulfr! I am Coea." The third male, the one with the bright colors overlaying the black coat, and odd horns gracing his skull, did not introduce himself, and so she quite properly ignored him.
They let the youngest male, Ulfr, take the lead, and when the boy leaped up to begin the chase, Coea did the same. With a harsh warcry she drove the gaur before her, and as she did she saw the horned man cut out the injured cow. Coea changed her trajectory to angle across to where he was, snapping at the cow's nose to drive her further from the stampeding herd. Her blood sang with the joy of battle, the primal dance that would keep them alive and well another day.

Úlfr kept up with gaur, sprinting ahead past the cow as Stjarna started to herd it away from the rest of the animals. He would focus on keeping the other animals running just in case anyone circled back for the cow. He doubted that was going to happen but he couldn't be sure with these new animals. Often mothers would circle back for their calves but he hadn't heard of many adults coming back for other adults. Eventually the rest of the gaur were far enough away that Úlfr felt comfortable circling back toward the female gaur. He knew he wasn't really supposed to be getting involved but he quickly joined Stjarna in keeping the cow's attention so the other wolf could attack. Úlfr was young and quick and loud so he felt he'd do best as a distraction as he was too young yet to really safely attack the injured cow.

With the help of the others, the hunting party managed to separate the cow from the herd. Like Úlfr, Hattori had briefly wondered whether this species were protective of their own kind, that they'd use their overwhelming size and numbers to chase off their attackers. But no, it seemed like every Gaur looked out for itself. The cow had drawn to a stop and was dipping her head, brandishing her massive horns that made Hattori's seem like little, insignificant nubs. He slowed to a walk, tail lashing as he circled her with a snarl, also attempting to keep her guessing as to which wolf would attack her first. Her hooves shuffled against the dirt, as her gaze flicked from one wolf to the other, hesitant and cautious but more than capable of holding her own. But he couldn't just stand idly by and hope that she'd just keel over for the taking, he had to take action and he needed to do it now.
Launching himself forward, Hattori dove at her side and pressed his talons against the cuts that already were already slashed across her side. He shoved them in deep, ripping and tearing at the already exposed flesh. His ears titled back, shielding themselves from the throaty wail of pain- only for him to have to leap away and retreat when she turned her neck to ward him off with one of her humongous horns.

As they brought the cow to bay, she shook her horns at them fiercely. The orange-spotted male rushed in to rake the gaur's side with strange claws, and she swung her horns at him. When the cow's attention was fixed on the pain he dealt her, Coea darted in and clamped her jaws firmly over the cow's nose. The beast flung up her head, and the power in her neck muscles was such that she managed to pick Coea up off the ground despite the amazonian's large form. Gold eyes glinted with a fierce delight as Coea clung to her grip, clenching her jaws deep into the tissue till they ground on bone. It would be hard to ignore the jaws pinching shut the guar's nostrils, the blood choking it even as it dragged breaths through its mouth. In desperation the gaur tried to trap the clinging wolf between the ground and her horns, but Coea still held on with grim determination. Either the claw wounds or the suffocation would kill her eventually, though not cleanly, but more importantly it would give someone the chance to get in close enough to end it fast.
