Crow laid on his back a few feet from his family's den, his little ivory paws tucked up against his chest and warm brown eyes wide open. He watched the clouds rolling by, casting the occasional shadow over him as they randomly blocked the sun. With the exception of the fluffy clouds that he was watching, the sky was a clear, light blue. His siblings were off exploring or playing some sort of game, but he had his own game. He was trying to figure out what the clouds looked like. So far he had seen one that looked like some flowers his mom had shown them and there had been another one that looked a lot like one of the birds he had seen in the forest.

He turned his gaze to glance around to look for one of his siblings, wanting someone to help him with the cloud he was studying now. The pup couldn't quite think of anything to compare the fluffy white form to, but two sets of eyes were better than one, right? Finally his brown eyes landed on his sister Kestrel and his little tail wagged. She could help him! "Kestrel! Kestrel, come're, help me figure out what the cloud looks like!"

Green orbs watched her brothers at play. Their yipping and barking rang throughout the clearing as they tumbled and rolled. She never really felt inclined to roughhouse with her brothers, she was much smaller then them and she never really liked to play that way. A sigh would escape her lips as her body pressed itself onto the ground, head upon her paws as her thoughts would slowly take hold of her. But before that could happen, she heard her name be called from somewhere off to the side, causing her head to strike up and glance around. Her eyes would fall upon her brother Crow, beckoning her to him and help him with his little game. Gladly did she oblige, pushing herself up and walking over to him and upon reaching him, did she nuzzle his cheek. Her smile spread across her face, light whispery gasps of air would escape in delighted laughter. Though she couldn't speak, at time her throat would produce light airy sounds to indicate laughter or nothing more than sighs. She had never really tried to talk, and figured that maybe everyone would speak at different intervals or ages.

She settled herself down next to her brother, looking up at the clouds and glancing at him to see which one he was looking at. Tilting her head to the side, she would see the figure of rabbit. Pointing up at it, she traced the shape with her paw, and lifted her back feet in the air, curling her toes and kicking out with them. She would then flip over to stand at a crouch, her body semi-lowered as she tucked her tail and hopped a couple times in place, wiggling her nose for added effect. The light laughter would be exhaled as she looked at her brother to see if he understood what she was trying to say.

Crow watched his sister carefully, seeing her first trace the cloud with her paw and then trying to act out what she saw. The sight made him bust into a fit of laughter, the sight of his sister hopping around like a rabbit-

He stopped in mid thought and looked up at the cloud again. It was a rabbit! He gave a huge grin and looked back at his sister, nodding eagerly. "Yeah! You're right! It is a rabbit! Huh, how did I miss that! You're good at this, Kes." He laughed again and looked back up at the clouds. As he laid there, gazing up at the sky, it suddenly dawned on him that his sister didn't say that it was a rabit, she acted it out. He had never thought about how he and his other siblings and their parents always spoke, but Kestrel didn't. It had never seemed strange because that's what she had always done, but Crow wanted to know why.

He pointed to another cloud, wanting to just see what his sister would do. "What about that one? What's that?"

Kestrel

The girl smiled as her brothers excitement seeped from him, contaminating her as well. She tilted her head to the side then, watching him carefully as he pointed out another cloud for her. Glancing up, she stared intently at it. Her green eyes would trace out a form that she had seen many times, it looked to take on the appearance of a...bird? Or maybe a deformed wolf that was running...no, definitely a turtle. She looked at her brother again, wondering how she would describe this too him. She furrowed her brows, wondering how she would imitate a bird...
She decided that perhaps there would be a few birds in nearby bushes, so with a quick glance at her brother telling him to wait there, she turned and dashed off towards the nearby bushes, hoping to startle some birds. Sure enough, a small flock of doves and sparrows flew out in alarm, chirping their warning calls to the surrounding areas. Returning to her brother, she pointed her nose towards the birds flying above them, then with her paw at the cloud and alternating between the two. She looked at him, wondering if he understood this time too.

Crow watched his silent sister curiously as she stared up at the cloud for several moments before getting up and running over to the bushes. She scared some of the birds hiding there into flight and pointed from the birds to the cloud. He turned his earthy gaze back up to the cloud, tilting his head a little and grinning when he saw the bird shape she was talking about. "Ooooh, good one, Kes! It's totally a bird. That's kinda funny, it's like a giant bird flying in the sky."

He waited for Kestrel to come back over to where they had been laying before he asked, "But, Kes... why don't you just say it's a bird? Wouldn't that be easier than chasing a bunch of birds into the air?" His curiosity had gotten the better of him and he really wanted to know. He hoped his sister wouldn't get upset with him for asking.
