Stairway to Heaven

She couldn't say she'd been here before. But here she was checking it out for the first time. The stress of trying to figure out how to be a good alpha had been piling up on her shoulders, and she felt weighed down more than she ever felt before. How the hell did her dad manage to do it? How the hell did other alphas manage to do it? Granted, she didn't really know any of the other alphas other than by name, nor how they were structured. She imagined they were all based the same, but...how would she know? She hadn't talked to any of them. She wasn't sure if she wanted to, or if she should. She didn't know much about any of them, and her father had given her limited information about those he knew about because well...in his words, things change. People change. And the wolves he knew before could have changed up to now. He knew he had. Change was an inevitable part of life, and of course, people changed with several factors. Age. Life experiences. Knowledge. Friends. Enemies...the list seemed almost neverending.

She stood atop the peak that overlooked the ocean. When she had passed the cathedral, it seemed like it was encased in ice with no way to get in, but then again she hadn't really looked, either. Instead, she had headed straight for the ice-encased archway and looked over the horizon. The sun was setting, but it would still be a little while yet before it dipped into the water...out here, she felt like she could breathe for once...if only for a moment.
