Come down, come down sweet reverence
Jynn pushed through the emerald green bushes toward the great river. It was a chilly autumn day, the sky a soft gray that darkened toward the horizon. Farther north this meant snow but in the south she expected rain to be more likely. A number of trees grew along the bank, vines draping and twisting from tree to tree. The water itself was steely gray, reflecting the sky though she could tell it was slightly muddy as well.
Jynn approached the edge of the water and peered down where a number of dark green plants and grasses grew along the bottom, some rising above the surface of the water. A spotted fish swam by and she debated about trying to catch one but instead turned her attention to a nearby tree where she stretched up it and used her claws to scratch through the bark and make a trail marker, just in case.

Gossamer trailed after Natha, eager and grateful for the chance to stretch her legs. It made her feel special to travel out so far with the cat on her fishing trip. While Natha would use her time to fish, Gossamer was going to get a lesson from Ásta on making spears. It turned out the fox was familiar with creating weaponry.
The trio stopped near the river where Natha planned to fish. Ásta slipped out of the travois she'd been dragging and turned to face Gossamer. "Ok, the first thing you're going to need for your spear is a stick. Try to find something slim and the length you want." Gossamer nodded and took off along the shore line with her companion in tow. She looked on the ground as well as at lower branches until she saw a fairly straight stick laying on the ground. With a grin she rushed over to it and picked it up in her jaws. Bounding back toward their work area she dropped the stick triumphantly and turned to Ásta to see what the next step was.

Come down, come down sweet reverence
Jynn crouched by the river side before bending her long head to drink from the water. As she did she noticed a number of interesting fish swim by. It seemed the whole river was teeming with them but perhaps this shouldn't have been a surprise. This was after all an area where a number of smaller streams and rivers merged into the great river and made its way to the ocean. Jynn stood and made another mark on the nearest tree to continue marking her path. As she continued her wandering until she spied a curious sight down stream from her.
A large cat was fishing while a fox and a wolf were playing with sticks. It was the fox that had caught her attention. She was huge compared to the rest of her kind and her height was closer to that of a maned wolf than a fox. Though her legs were more in proportion of other canids. Jynn cleared her throat. "Hello there, may I ask what you're working on?"

Ásta bent her head and inspected the stick for a moment before nodded. "Yes, that looks like a good one to me. Now start chewing off the excess bits sticking off of it so you have a straight piece." Gossamer nodded and set the stick between her paws, rotating her head as she sought to chew off the smaller pieces that were branching off the main branch of her stick. She'd just finished when a voice called out.
Gossamer turned to look and was surprised to see another giant fox. Though this one seemed to be all legs and she was pretty skinny looking. "Hey Ásta, it's another big fox! My name is Gossamer and this is Ásta." Ásta was staring at the stranger in shock. She slowly approached sniffing lightly. "Is it true? Are you a fox?"

Come down, come down sweet reverence
Jynn's large ears flicked forward as she sniffed at the fox for a moment before shaking her head. "No, I'm actually a maned wolf. Perhaps you have some maned wolf in you? I haven't seen a fox so big before. My name is Jynn." It was a very curious sight. However, she decided she ought not to stare and turned her attention back to the river. It was moving at a fairly languid pace but as she eyed the clouds in the distance she had a feeling rain was going to arrive soon and that it might cause the river to rise and move faster. She stepped over to a fallen tree trunk and decided it would work just as well to mark as a living tree if not better. Jynn hopped up on it and like a cat on a scratching post she worked her claws into the bark.

Ásta frowned a bit at first that the creature was not another fox but some strange sort of wolf or other canid. However, she didn't wan to let that get in the way. She shrugged. "Not that I know of but it's hard to say for sure." The fox was eager to change the subject and turned back to Gossamer who was waiting on her next set of instructions. "Ok, good work on getting those smaller branches off. Now you'll want to try and sharpen the point. Pick it up in your jaws and start rubbing the end onto that rock to sharpen the tip, like so."
Gossamer watched as Ásta demonstrated with another stick. She nodded and picked hers up, carefully positioning the end in her jaws as she tipped her head and started awkwardly trying to shove it against the rock so that the rock would scrape parts of the wood off to form a point. She was awkward and clumsy at first but soon she found her rhythm and in the end had a nice wooden spear.
