Tonights the night
The winter season had always been a harsh one for Elizabeth. She remembered the days she had spent at home, training and hunting for herbs among the bare roots and tree's. What was worse, she had never once seen snow in her lifetime until she moved here to Boreas. The desert had been bare and here, the Rio grande, it was covered in snow. Elizabeth stood on top of a rock jutting out of the snow on the ground. Here she could see over the white ridges that expanded as far as she could see. Apparantly this winter seemed harsh shivering with the touch of frost that covered the tips of her white fur. At least she blended in perfectly if there was any danger and a bit of excitement bubbled in her stomach. "You look as if you aren't sure what to do?" Benson's chirp sounded from the top of her head. Elizabeth looked up seeing just the tip of his beak the cockatiel leaning over to meet his eyes with hers. She grinned at her companion wagging her tail lightly to the sound of the birds voice. A laugh escaped her lips as her gaze fell over the snow once more. A break in the snow was the rio grande. The water flowed easily despite the cold weather. She could only assume that the flowing prevented it from freezing over. Some water had frosted over near the edges, clinging to the roots and rocks that lay near the edges. The few shapes of fish that swam in the cold water gave her hope even during the harsh season of winter Boreas seemed to be filled with life.

"You're right Ben. I haven't seen this much snow in my life, it at least reaches above my ankles." she frowned. It made her exploring a little more difficult. Of course she had jumped onto this boulder to get a better look at the landscape. She could see this making a perfect piece of territory for a pack if need be in the south. The spotted tree's provided cover during the warmer months she could assume. Their bare branches covered in snow fall. Elizabeth tried to imagine the place filled with prey and life, flowers blooming from the soil. Herbs. Snow however thwarted that, she had already gathered and dried what she could leaving the stores in her den. For now Liz dedicated the colder weather to exploring and sharpening her knowledge of the nearby lands. That way she could report back to Aurielle with her findings. Aurielle.... her alpha. Liz hadn't spoken with her for a while making the healer sigh. She needed to make sure she could make the wolf proud. Elizabeth didn't want to be lazy nor non existant. Now that her siblings were out of the picture now was the time to explore!

"Just try making a few paths. I'm sure you'll be able to get a better lay of the land that way." Benson encouraged her. Elizabeth took in a deep breath, Ben was right, she wouldn't gain anything by sitting up here thinking about her life. With a strong push she leaped from the rock landing in the soft snow with a crunch. The sudden rush of cold send a shiver down her spine making her fur fluff up. Elizabeth shook the cold from her system ready to her steps forward, if she could patrol the outside of the land in question then she could judge for herself how far it stretched. Taking a few pawsteps forward she felt the snow drag on her paws. Making it harder to walk forward, it felt almost as if she was wading through the river next to her. If this was what snow felt like she wasn't entirely excited about it anymore. She pressed on though not letting the snow stop her while she trailed to the edge of a tree that was a little ways away from the river that flowed through the center of the territory.

"This place almost seemed to be centered around the river, there's little cover but I imagine during spring and summer the water along with the fish would provide for the creatures who come here." She suggested looking around at the blanket of undisturbed snow. Her trail left a casm in the snow from the boulder to where she was now. Not being able to see the ground made this a little more difficult. Important landmarks and scents that she would normally have to rely on were out of the question. At least she was semi familiar with where this place had been located to begin with. "Guess I should follow the river and see where that leads me at least." she muttered with a bit of frustration edging her voice. Ben let out a small chirp, trying to ease the wolf's worries while she continued to trek through the thick snow covering the the ground. Reaching the edge of the river, she felt more at ease with the free movement of her paws. "One things for sure, I can't wait for the weather to warm up again." she firmly stated as she leaned down to take a drink from the cool river. The icy water almost made her shake but the refreshment she felt filled her body with delight.
