A Mammoth Task (HUNT PREP)
"W-we need to appear threatening. Numbers are on our side." Dual-colored eyes glanced around to the mass of wolves. "Big and loud, to trick their brains." She fell silent, waiting for a better idea to follow hers.
Psalm peered curiously at the girl who was practically plastered to her brother before snapping her attention back to Brandr, the listened carefully to the idea of driving the herd over the cliff, she hadn't known that was a tactic employed by the pack but she was excited to get to not only see it in action but get to participate. She watched each member as each of them added more ideas to the discussion, nodding enthusiastically at the idea of adding more noise to their hunt, she could do that easily. In truth she didn't have anything else to add to the ideas, so she stayed quiet but listened and watched carefully, filing everything away so she could follow up the new things she was learning at a later point. He listened excitedly to the plan and then all the input from the other pups and adults that had spoken up so far. His gaze shot from one wolf to the next as each one spoke, the youth unable to keep his attention in any one place as his head buzzed with all the information. He wasn't sure what he could add in that hadn't already been said, but he was kinda miffed that the pups couldn't fully participate, but he'd be damned if he wouldn't get to join in some way! So when the other pups talked about making a bunch of noise, he chimed in. "I can be real loud and annoying, too! Ask my brother and sister! If being loud isn't enough, what about um...I dunno, biting at their feet? They look pretty dumb and slow, I dunno." He shrugged and flopped down when he was done talking. |
Running through the territory waving sticks sounded like an adventure. Luckily, it might as well still be winter, so things weren't going to be catching on fire easily.
He looked about the crowd hopefully, seeing if anyone would speak up about being able to make fire. That way he could attach himself to them and be one of thr wolves carrying a flaming stick...
Lyric listened to everyone's input, as he wasn't a hunter by trade he didn't feel like saying anything, he preferred to live the experts manage this. He would relegate himself to just go along the flow, to do as he was told without questioning. He was a healer, not a hunter and thus he wouldn't know how to approach on his own mind. Calmly as he sat he paid attention to his packmate's thinking and he agreed with using the cliffs as the ultimate weapon to bring down the enormous beasts. "Sounds good,I am up to it. If you need me in anything or in any position let me know." That was all he would say as he looked at them. "Speech" |
Allegro was the first to speak and Brandr considered his words for a moment before nodded. "Yes, I think you're right. At most they may find us an annoyance. In order for the cliff plan to work we need to get them running enough that they can't stop in time." But what would be the best way to get them moving at a good clip?
Satire mentioned making a loud noise and Brandr nodded. "That's a good idea." He chuckled as Poetry followed up that he could make a lot of noise. Brandr turned his attention to Corvus as the younger man mentioned fire. "That could work. Most animals are instinctively afraid of fire." They'd have a limited amount of time they could use it. Thankfully it wasn't terribly windy.
"Ok, here's the plan. These creatures must have some natural predator. We've seen wolves around, larger than even the biggest of us. I think its reasonable to assume they prey on these creature's young and weak. Allegro, Corvus I'd like you two to journey to the base of the Moontouched Cliffs to lie in wait for our prey and take point in finish them off.
"Everyone else we'll want to start our hunt by howling loud and frequently. Set our prey on edge and make them think there are more of us than there are. We'll then rush at them and try to herd them toward the cliffs. Twig, Asuka, Lyric, Senryu. I'd like each of you to take a stick with a ball of flaming pitch on the end. I will as well. Those with fire will use it to try and burn the ankles of these beasts and harry them. Those under a year old will run with us but not get too close. We need the illusion of numbers to create fear and I don't want anyone getting stepped on. Sound good?"
Satire couldn’t help but roll her eyes at her brother’s antics, though the wide grin that split her maw suggested that she definitely agreed with him. The ideas went back and forth and the girl felt a sense of accomplishment that her suggestion seemed to go somewhere. It all sounded so good! They would have plenty of food too. Perhaps Fable could cook them something delicious with it! She still found herself displeased with the idea of keeping a distance. She could help! Every wolf could get stepped on, not just the young wolves, so why did they have to get signaled out?
Still, she didn’t want to lose out on this opportunity so she nodded eagerly. “Sounds good! I’ll behave and keep my distance I promise.” She wanted to learn, and if she was going to learn then she had to watch and listen. Surely there would be plenty of hunts in the future. Maybe these strange creatures that appeared would just stick around and she could hunt one of them when she was older! She could only hope.
She tried to indulge in the moment, her bright eyes shifted to Lyric with a similar pride as he spoke up and offered himself however he could. Eventually Brandr spoke up again, the master hunter was their natural leader and Twig would do as instructed. She wished she wouldn’t be separated from Corvus, the plan was solid and she would be able to keep to Lyric. Twig nodded lightly she knew her purpose in this struggle and she was ready.
Brandr took the floor once everyone had quieted down, and she was already assigned her role. Stay back, run with the pack and bulk up their numbers. Shae wasn’t eager to have the spotlight, she liked that she wasn’t going to have to be right up under such gigantic feet. The bright girl looked back to her siblings, an eager grin on her face as she readied herself for the mammoth task.
The youngest would keep their distance while being loud enough to make the beasts stir. The others would pursue their prey while he and Allegro waited. Their job was an important one, and he hoped it wouldn't be too difficult with the size of the beasts... hopefully the fall was enough to incapacitate them and he and Allegro would simply make sure the job was finished. He nodded in understanding, moving to trail after Allegro once they were dismissed to begin their descent down toward the bottom of the cliff.
