Mammoth hunt part two!

With all the focuse on the thing he didn't distract his eyes from the top of the cliff where the mammoth would hopefully fall down to it's death. And soon Ulric gave the call and walking back serval steps he didn't want to be trapped under the massive animal falling and there into a stumble the animal was now broken. Quickly he rushed and finished the work by trying to rip a wound on the back to make it bleed out to it's death.
Finished he nodded to Ulric as he would attempt to take a good portion of it to both help get it back to the castle and getting extra pieces for he and his two companions.

Rejoining in step with Ulric, the two wolves corralled the fleeing mammoth straight for the edge of the cliff—and without missing a beat, the lumbering animal went toppling into the canyon. Artorias skidded to a stop, his paws kicking up snow and ice while he came closer to the ravine, peering down when he heard the colossal thud. The mammoth was clearly crippled, and the rest of the pack was moving in for the kill. Their plan had worked and their hunt had been a success!
Artorias followed Ulric down into the canyon to join the others, careful with his footing on the way down, lest he end up like the mammoth. Approaching the carcass of the creature was otherworldly. It was so big, so hairy... so smelly! Art cringed away from the stench of the mammoth, the thick scent of blood only helping to offset its horrendous odor a little bit. At Ulric's orders, Artorias stepped forward and began to assist with the skinning and dissection of the body. The hide, once cleaned, would make for yards worth of bedding and blankets, and the meat when butchered could feed the pack for a month. This had been a tremendous victory!
Artorias stayed behind with some of the others to continue to butcher the animal into more manageable parts while others caravanned the meat back to the larders in the castle. It took most of the day, but once the animal had been stripped down to bones and sinew, Artorias grabbed one of the last chunks and headed back home with the spoils of the hunt and a victorious spring in his step.

They ran and ran. Oxx wasn't used to this much work. Yes, he hunted, but he hunted small game. Or he made Isidora hunt for him. The woman was always glad to feed him. Why should he continue to work, really? He'd learned the faces of the wolves around him. He'd learned the name of the pack. Learned that his mother was indeed there. Ugh. Heavy paws thudded through the snow as they continued the chase. The panicked giant was soon swept over the edge of a cliff. Down, down, down it went. Crash. Thud. Boom. Bang. A round of applause for the mighty hunters. Oxx made a sweeping gesture with one paw as if to help the beast over the cliffside. There we go. Job done. While the other sticks in the mud went to inspect their kill, the slate and snow dire turned and parted ways. That was enough mundane activity for one day. If he stayed around the little goodies much longer, he very well might get sick. "Speech" |

The beast was eventually panicked off the cliff, falling to its death at Luta and Dunkan's fangs. Avantika stared at the scene below for a moment longer than necessary. She wasn't sure why. Kaata landed on her usual roost on her shoulder and said, in a flat voice, "This is what panic does." The wolf glanced at her companion but didn't reply. It was true, anyway. Their huge prey could have turned and at least taken out one or two of them, but it was too afraid, and it paid the ultimate price, without even making them pay. For a moment, she felt like she was in the beast's head. She'd panicked many times before, but she hadn't died yet. Yet. She followed her pack down to the now dead beast. The thundering sound of the stampeding mammoths grew louder and louder. She could almost feel the ground starting to shiver underneath her paws. "Lúta, here it comes!" Raga yelled out to her, diving out of the way as a large form tumbled over the lip of the canyon. Lúta braced herself, scanning the beast as it smashed into the ground. She noted the angle it had landed and could swiftly conclude that at least two of its legs were broken and likely its spine for the hind legs didn't seem to be moving. The beast struggled and as Dunkan went for the back Lúta used her feline claws to climb up the creature and latch onto its throat. Her head thrashed as her claws dug in. The mammoth tried to seize her with its trunk but it was so weak from the fall and fading swiftly that it soon perished. She released her grip and sat aside for a moment, relieved the hunt was finished.
