Fireside had not been invited to the festivals but Ysmir was hardly surprised, they didn’t have a great relationship, not that the pack had brought up much fuss since the raid. Ysmir found himself at the tournament though, he was drawn by the possibility of showing off his skill and maybe earning a bit of glory for himself and his pack. The silent yearling took his place, head held high and his stance ever at the ready. His expression was blank, but his eyes were sharp as he looked his opponent up and down. Ysmir had never seen the wolf before, but that didn’t mean he’d underestimate his opponent either.

The other yearling was taller than Ysmir was, but not by too much. His horns were much more pronounced than Ysmir’s fangs or claws. The Finnvi boy repressed a smirk that wanted to cross his features. He remained poised until they were told to begin, then Ysmir leap towards the bigger boy. He aimed to catch his neck in elongated jaws and grab hold of the other boy’s shoulders with his claws. He wanted to be close so he didn’t get the brung of those horns.

There was no way Kotori would miss out on the tournament.  He had meant to get to know Ashen wolves earlier as the one pup he’d run into way back had been fun once they got past a disagreement.  Kotori was larger now with more experience and ready to show off how great he’d become.  Briar had shown up also the boy smirked as he hoped his sister beat everyone she fought, up until they had to fight each other at least.
Now he was looking at a dark-coated wolf that was similar to him in size.  Kotori spotted the hint of longer fangs but considering his dad’s fangs, this wolf's appearance was far less impressive in the young wolf’s mind. Kotori wasn’t hiding his smug smirk.  Kotori was a Fatalis and wasn’t about to lose to this wolf.

The moment they could start Ysmir had quickly lunged in.  As the wolf went for Kotori’s neck it could seem as if he was happy to assist.  Kotori lowered his head and neck. Even as he felt the claws sink into his shoulder Kotori’s head came up, aiming to slam his horns into the under jaw or throat of Ysmir as both a defense from the bite and an attack at the same time.  Regardless if it worked or not Rudy would aim an attack of his own for Ysmir’s throat.

His opponent looked confident at the very least, and where Ysmir wouldn’t show any emotion the other boy wore an obvious smirk on his features. The young Finnvi didn’t try to dwell on the emotions that caused in him, already feeling his respect for his opponent fall. He wouldn’t let him get to him though, Ysmir was quiet and patient. He’d show this boy who he was messing with. Thankfully Ysmir had already been well aware of the other boy’s natural weapons. He was shorter too, and very aware of where Kotori’s head was. As he aimed for his neck the horned wonder lowered his head. Ysmir wasn’t about to let him get such an easy shot.

Ysmir’s form was low to the ground, and he kept his chin lower than Kotori’s so he wouldn’t be able to catch him like he wanted to. Ysmir’s claws did catch Kotori’s shoulders as the other boy aimed for his throat as well Ysmir would parry with his own long fangs. Ysmir wasn’t as big but now that he had a hold he’d aim to drop his weight against Kotori and aim to bring him to the ground and wrestle a victory out of him.

Kotori really liked his technique of using his horns to an enemy's throat and was a bit irritated it hadn’t worked this time.  The claws in his shoulder were also unpleasant but his pride risked a much worse pain if he didn’t win.  The other wolf got a glare but being so close together he had no idea, nor care if Ysmir would see it.  

He felt the pressure to be knocked down and gritting his teeth he pushed his own weight forward, stepping in further to see if he could get the rival wolf off balance.  It would be a battle of who would off-balance or weigh down the other.  Kotori refused to go home a failure and tell his dad he dropped out from his very first match.  A back part of his mind warned him that even if he won this fight if he got too injured it could hinder Kotori in the next battle.

The battle was so close that Ysmir could practically taste victory, that was probably why when Kotori unexpectedly hit him with his horns one more time the defeat hurt so much more. Ysmir was born being told of his great lineage and the incredible wolves he had been born from and the gods they served and gained blessings from. He thought for a moment that he would feel the glory of the gods on his face. Suddenly, as if he was missing the last few minutes of reality, Ysmir blinked open his eyes from the ground. He was on his side, dirt caked the side of head head where he hit the ground hard. The opposite shoulder ached and stung, He’d been pierced and the force of the hit bruised him up pretty badly. Ysmir groaned, one of the few noises he could make, as he lifted himself to his elbows but no further. More painful than his wounds though was the realization that he was the loser.
