Silent had never been to the Mile-High Woods before now. She had remained in the warmer lands during the summer, though it would have made more sense to trek north during those months. As the seasons began to shift once again and the heat and humidity started to dwindle, Silent found herself wondering why she was even in the Northern Hemisphere. Why not take advantage of a good thing and enjoy the fall as it came in the southern segments? Silent's question remained unanswered; at least, for the time being.

When she had woken up that day, Silent's paw pads had been itchy. Not in a literal way, but in the way that one's restlessness strives to make any decision for the wanderer about trekking. After downing a few gulps of water from a nearby stream and catching a small rodent or two for breakfast, Silent had cleaned her paws and maw before setting off for another unplanned adventure. As she came upon the large trees that made up the new landscape in front of her, Silent could not help but be in awe. The trunks were so wide, the branches were so thick and long - they all looked as if they were connected, like supported bridges without the finer details of connection.

Bright green eyes drank in everything as she walked beneath the first tree that was in her path, head looking up to see the branch move over her while remaining undisturbed. Leaves had begun to fall around the various trees, causing a soft crunching sound to greet Silent's ears as she walked. It was an interesting sound, one that reminded her of the crisp padding of four blue paws that stepped on compacted snow. She had a small flashback of Bronze's bright eyes and all she could do was smile. Where was the blue boy anyway?

As the season shifted, any hints of warmth disappearing behind a slow but steady cold front that was sneaking across the north, Bronze had taken to wandering a bit farther from home. He never stayed away for long, taking days when he had nothing else to do to go explore the lands surrounding Incendium's territories. He knew the world was vast, and stretched further than he could ever imagine, but it was a start. It wasn't like he'd have as much ability to travel once winter struck anyway. He remembered how harsh the weather had been in his earliest months of life and knew the lands would return to that before long. At least now it wasn't as snowy as it had been then, but overall the world was damp and cold and gloomier than he remembered it ever being before.

He'd been here once before but not this exact section of forest. He was enamored with these huge trees, so different from the pines he'd grown up around. He still didn't think he'd want to climb one or anything like that, but it was an interesting thought anyway and he liked to imagine how it'd feel to be a smaller creature, hopping along the branches and using them as a method to travel. Maybe it'd be safer for small creatures, tucked away out of sight of the ground-dwelling wolves below. Occasionally he'd pause and tilt his head up, drinking in the scents that filled the forest, listening for the faint rustling of leaves that might alert him to someone nearby.

A familiar scent suddenly hit him and he was caught completely off guard. He'd only met her once, but he didn't know any other wolves outside of Incendium, so it wasn't like it was possible for him to mistake her for someone else. Slowly he moved to follow it, curious; had she stuck around these lands, he wondered, or had she gone somewhere else? She'd explained she had no real home, so she went where she pleased, but why here when it was so gloomy these days? He supposed he didn't know if it was any better elsewhere, though he'd been told the weather further south was milder and warmer. Paws carried him for a good distance through the forest before he caught sight of her in the distance, letting out a soft bark of greeting to alert her to his presence before he got too close.

Silent's bright green eyes continued to admire the trees from where she stood, an inquisitive look shining through with ease. Nature was different in every piece of the continent she had travelled, no matter which season came upon the present location. She was in awe of it all; no one was in charge of what it did and it seemed to abide by its own rules with no regrets. Silently, she wondered if she would be capable of such a carefree life when she grew older. For now, it was just a guess.

The presence of a soft bark reached her dark ears and Silent turned her head to look at the source. A few yards from her, beneath a similarly large tree, the blue boy stood with ears perked in her direction. Her tail swayed behind her once as she mirrored his greeting, though her tone was a softer soprano than his tenor. All thoughts of the trees were swept away for the moment as she redirected her steps to find herself padding in his direction.

"Bronze," she greeted, warmth dancing with his name as she got closer. "How did you get all the way out here? I thought you were supposed to be behind your border, forever and always." She raised on eyebrow in open speculation, indicating that she was curious to hear what his reasoning would be.

The trees here were different from the pines he was so used to further north. Instead of being tall, though they still seemed to reach high toward the sky, they were wide and strong. They seemed older somehow, though Bronze wasn't sure what made him think that way. They just seemed old, like they'd been here for as long as the world itself. He thought about that while he stood and spotted Silent, letting out a bark before he got any closer. He hated being snuck up on so he didn't want to do the same to her. As she turned to him his own tail began to sway behind him, slow and steady as he cocked his head to the side. She returned the bark and he very nearly grinned, but his expression softened into something more serious just a moment later.

"Silent," the boy returned her greeting gently. How did he get out the way out here? "I walked," he said simply, not the leas bit sarcastic, just matter-of-factly. "I don't always stay behind the border. I'm older now, you know," Bronze explained patiently. He raised a brow as she drew closer, eventually reclining to his haunches. "I should ask you the same thing. How'd you get here? You don't live here," he teased, his eyes sparkling with amusement, knowing very well that she went wherever she pleased.
