Come down, come down sweet reverence

Jynn moved carefully through the night. A brilliant crescent moon shed light across the strange field but there was something in the atmosphere that made the moon look a strange sea foam green. Despite it being night she couldn't see any stars in the deep charcoal gray sky. She stocked across the plateau, her delicate paws moving carefully across patches of golden and brown grass as well as bare earth. Shields, spears, swords and a number of other metal objects studded the landscape. On a nearby pole was a white pennant with strange black writing on it. She shuddered, gazing ahead to the mist shrouded silhouette of mountains in the distance.

Hanako liked to explore as much as the next person but she couldn't say she was overly fond of this place. It was hard to put her paw on, but there was a sense of foreboding in the air, like the weapons that littered the ground could become sentient at any moment and poke Hanako till she was full of holes, like Swiss cheese. She carefully padded about the place, her footsteps light and careful, ready to pick up the pace at a moment's notice if need be.

It did not take her long to realise she was alone. A spindly legged creature wandered across the Plateau, mindful of her step as she glanced about, no doubt her thoughts following a similar trail as Hanako's. The koi wolf wanted to call out to her to get her attention but breaking the silence felt...wrong almost, like this place shouldn't have signs of life.

Instead, she ventured closer, meandering around the larger bits of equipment.

"Psst, hey."

Jynn reached out to sniff at a nearby shield, taking in the curious metallic scent as she wondered what force made these. Surely they'd been crafted by something. She knew wolves that made weapons and armor but this looked like a different sort of craftsmanship and it was very old. Her ears flicked back as she caught the sound of movement followed by someone speaking softly. She looked back and saw a pretty young calico colored woman.

"Oh, hello there… why are we whispering?" She replied in the same hushed tones and wondered if perhaps the other woman was in trouble and trying not to attract a predator or something of the like.

"Oh...hm. Just feels a bit spooky." Her icy gaze swept over the land, noting how harsh and barren it was. Battles hadn't been waged here in an eternity, far longer than wolves could remember, but the damage was already done. Nothing would ever grow here, this land was not suitable for life. "Might be ghosts."

Hanako wasn't sure if she was a believer or not, except the thought of that haunted house she'd been foolish enough to venture inside made her hesitate. Just cause she couldn't see them didn't mean they weren't there. She shifted a little, careful to avoid the twisted tangles of coiled metal, and flicked her tail to gesture to the surrounding land.

"I don't know what this place is but I'm sure people don't come here a lot for a reason, right?"

Jynn's ears flicked back at the mention of ghosts. She really hoped not. She'd already had one spooky encounter and she certainly didn't want another. The wind picked up, whipping a pennant and startling Jynn. She jumped slightly, fur raised. "Say, uh, you wouldn't happen to be heading south would you? I heard there's a cave full of glowing mushrooms." To her it sounded more magical than this place. She stepped gingerly around a helmet, pausing just briefly to sniff at the metal but she couldn't really make out much. It was rusting badly, and if it was used in the same way as many wolves she had no doubt they were standing on some sort of battlefield.
