If Wendigo were to give travel recommendations Traveler's Pitfall would easily make his top three suggestions. The only thing keeping it from being number one, really, was the lack of natural fire. Similarly, it lost second place because, in addition to no natural fire, it was woefully lacking in combustible material for the discerning firebug who opted to bring his own flame. Which meant if he wanted any fire at all he'd have to bring both it and its fuel, and that was just too much work. What saved the Pitfall from falling off his radar entirely and firmly cemented it in third place was, of course, the sand traps. Running across the terra was a fast paced game of chance and he loved it.

He was here today, fireless, for one such game of chance. A nice little race across the hungry ground would break up the monotony of his night nicely. There was rarely anyone out here so he was prepared to play alone, but that was alright. The grabby sand made for good company in his opinion.

Naturally, if Kuroki was told not to do something he went did it anyway. As a pup, though he hardly looked like one these days, he wasn't allowed to leave Ashen without an escort- yadda yadda ya. It was in one dark ear and out the other with the oldest Ashen Prince, a tempting prospect to see how far he could push his parents till they really came down on him hard and fast. So far he'd only received admonishments that were about as harsh as a tap to the muzzle, disapproving glares, groundings and chores which only added fuel to his fire. Any attention was better than none and Kuroki lapped it up like freshly spilled milk. He padded along, talons leaving grooves in the sand as he tested the feel of it beneath his paws. There was a sense of give to it, instability, as though any wolf with any degree of insight would take a moment to pause and question if this was a good idea after all. Not Kuroki though, youthish arrogance had him throwing caution to the wind. If this place was forbidden then it made him want to linger all the more. He was quick to spot a dark figure ahead, loitering just as he intended to do. Birds of a feather perhaps? "Oi!" He called, no manners and all sabred smiles. "Whatchu doing?"

Wendigo was about to start running when a voice called out to him. He paused, knees bent in a ready-to-run crouch, and blinked in the stranger's direction. His eyes trailed up the other boy's face to his horns and stayed fixed there for a moment. And then he was off bounding towards the boy. "Well," he said grandly before leaping over a spot that was definitely quicksand, "I was just gonna race," another patch of quicksand and he was all up in the other boy's space unless he moved.

Having never known a stranger, Wendigo reached out and tried to touch one of Kuroki's horns. "Ohh, neat. I want them." What had he been saying? Those pretty white horns were distracting. "Like I was saying, I was just going to run by myself but if you're brave maaaaybe we can play a game?"
