"Talk" Walk

Winter was in full force and Ignis was intent on ensuring the pack wouldn't struggle this season. He had already started a cache of salted fish that he had preserved in the ship's dry storage, and he intended on filling the food stores as much as he could with the help of the other hunters in the pack. It was early when the crimson alpha left the ship, heading towards the northernmost edge of the territory where the ice met the sea. His companions had worked to prepare some spears and other gear to use for fishing, and he was on his way to meet them. By the time he reached the edge of the ice, the sky was still dark. He had gotten up well before the sun did, after all, wasn't that the best time to start fishing? According to his companions, fish were active very early in the day, as well as in the evening for feeding and when temperatures were cooler. Though in the North, he wondered if it made a difference. Regardless, he was already out here and he had his cloak pulled over his shoulders for added warmth on this dreary morning.

It was still early yet, and his companions were working on the finishing touches on the gear they were working on by the time he arrived. "Is everything ready?" He asked, stopping to inspect the nets and rods they had made. "Almost, we're finishin' up a rod for ya mate, and Wolverine is out diggin' a few holes for ye to try ya luck if ya don't have any here, eh? Don't ya worry mate, you'll get fishin' soon enough." Ignis nodded as he settled down to help work on the net that the Palm cockatoo was working on. After his first fishing venture, he couldn't wait to get back to it. He had to admit, he rather enjoyed fishing these days. Maybe it was because he was getting older. Or maybe he finally found a hobby that he liked. Whatever the case, it wasn't something he'd give up anytime soon.

The Wolverine returned, paws covered in snow and ice as he approached the pair. "I made a few holes a little way over there. Figured we could toss a couple of nets here and set up a couple of rods at the fishing holes to increase our luck." Ignis nodded with a grin, "Alright, we just finished up here. Let's get fishing, eh? Try this stuff out." He picked up one of the nets and slung it across his back before taking a couple of the rods in his mouth. While he fished at the holes, the cockatoo would throw a net or two in the water and see what he could get. Meanwhile, Ignis and his Wolverine headed to the fishing hole and set up their gear. Ig dropped a line into the water before he made himself comfortable and held the rod between his forepaws. Baited with minnows the Wolverine had caught, he hoped they'd be able to catch something at least.

It felt like a long while had passed. Ig had started to nod off a bit but was quickly alerted with a nudge to his side from his companion. "Looks like you might have a bite there," Crimson gaze found the tip of the rod and he noticed it started to twitch. Likewise, he could feel the vibrations from the rod in his paws. He grabbed the rod between his teeth and jerked back hard before he started to back peddle in an effort to pull up his catch.

He had to pause a few times to keep the line from breaking, but they had used wood from a sapling and braided horsehair for the rod and line as well as some hooks they found in the ship and so far, it seemed to be holding up pretty well. After a few, long minutes of playing tug of war with the fish, he finally managed to get it to the hole where his companion could grab it and toss it onto the ice. The fish flopped around for a few moments before the Wolverine bit the back of its head to kill it. "Look at that! I caught something," The crimson male couldn't lie, he was delighted with his first catch. "It's a cod, pretty common, but a decent size. Good for dinner." Ig grinned, pleased with his catch as he tossed it into the net he had brought with him. "Let's try for some more,"

The pair worked together to rebait the hook before dropping the line back in the water. Surely if he had caught one, there would be more, right? As he waited patiently for another bite, his cockatoo companion flew over to them with a shit-eating grin on his face. "Oi I caught a few in the nets, eh! I got 'em stashed away for us to collect when we're done 'ere." So far, this morning proved to be pretty fruitful.
