not a fan of pirates

Pushing deeper into the depths of the Cavern, Hattori would be a liar if he claimed to have seen this coming. Naturally wolves knew about it, wanderers knew Boreas unlike any other, but the scene that laid out before him was close to nonsensical. Like something from a story Raijin would tell. Undeniably it was there, the ancient wood creaking and groaning as the scent of rotting wood filled his nostrils. He took a step forward and eyed the stone shards that filled up most of the free space remaining. It was strange, how they seemed to spread like a disease, even infiltrating the wooden structure itself.
He had never seen anything like it, but beyond the sense of oddity it was interesting to say the least. Enough he was curious to see what else there was to see and smell, after all some risks were worth taking. Padding closer, he eyed the ship once more, unsure of how to best board it. He cast a look over his shoulder to Jynn, she was the explorer here and so he was willing enough to follow her lead.

Come down, come down sweet reverence
Jynn pressed deeper into the cavern, mouth open as she looked at the sights surrounding her. The light from sunset was pouring in, gold turned red violet by the clouds. The light was reflecting off the cavern walls that were covered in crystals and illuminating a large pirate ship with golden accents. Crystals grew throughout the deck and the tattered sails waved gently in the breeze. She had to get a closer look! Jynn paced toward the back of the ship and with a mighty leap she leapt aboard. "Wow, this is a neat thing. I've never seen anything like it, what about you Hattori?" Jynn had explored a number of human artifacts but this one was new to her.

Jynn was quick to leap aboard and Hattori followed suit, his talons clicking against the old wood as he landed. It groaned beneath his weight but aside from a bit of grumbling protest he did not think it would collapse just yet. Tipping his head back he eyed the ruffling sails, tattered at the edges and yellowed by the ages. How long had this been here? It was truly hard to say, but even then it looked older than the buildings he'd seen. Made from more primitive materials.
Tangles of ropes were strewn about the deck and Hattori took care not to catch his paw as he made his way across from one side to the other.
"Nothing like this." He took a moment to pause and sniffed at the wood of the railing, breathed so deep nothing but the salt ridden smell of wood filled his lungs. It was telling, a clue to what this thing was for. "If I had to guess...this thing belonged in the sea. It reeks of salt water."

Jynn stretched up the mast, gazing curiously at the sails. They looked like hides but not quite. The material was too thin and billowy unless that was what happened to hides over an extended period of time? At the mention of sea water Jynn dropped back to all fours and sniffed at the wood herself before nodding. "I think I've seen something like this but it was made of metal. I wonder if humans somehow found a way to make such big things float." It seemed crazy but then again she had seen walruses and killer whales so clearly large things could swim if they wanted to. Jynn gazed back out toward the mouth of the cave, watching the water roll in and out.

Metal? How could something considerably heavier than wood float? There was little to be known about humans, only lingering stories that were no doubted twisted by the ages, but were they really so ingenious that they could create such things? Shape the world as they pleased. Perhaps it was a good thing they were long gone, never to return, as who knew what they could have wrought.
Pursing his lips, Hattori paced over to the middle of the deck and examined the trap door below. It had a metal loop connected to a bolt, more than wide enough for Hattori to slip his paw in and pull it open. It creaked and groaned, the old wood protesting but ultimately caved to Hattori's will as he prised the door wide open. A rush of musty air filled his nose, salt and dust intermingling to form a distasteful scent. Old places were undeniably interesting but not always the most pleasant to explore.
"Are you coming?" He asked, gesturing to the level below.

Jynn turned to look back at what Hattori was doing to see him opening a trap door. She grinned. "Heck yes, what do we have here." She gazed down into the dark and wrinkled her nose. It smelt like mold. Not terribly surprising considering the moisture content. There was a wooden ladder that led down into the dark and Jynn carefully started her descent. Halfway down she hit a particularly rotted run and crashed down onto the floor below. "…ow. Watch that middle rung." Jynn got to her feet and shook the dust from her coat, wincing a bit as she rolled her shoulders. There were all manner of crates, nets and barrels in the hold.

Hattori's ears flicked back as a sound of crashing followed suit swiftly after Jynn dipped out of sight. He poked his head down into the hole and after his eyes adjusted to the change of lighting he saw the manned wolf clamber to her paws. She'd taken a bit of a fall but nothing serious, from the looks and sounds of it. Following suit, Hattori heeded her advice and took it slow and steady. It was awkward and ungainly, such steps weren't designed for wolves but thanks to Jynn's warning he managed to make it down without falling as well.
It seemed as though the bulk of this space was storage, as the corners were full of stacked containers and crates. He approached a barrel and gave it a rap of his talons, wondering what laid within. Perhaps this vessel had been used to move goods back and forth, able to store more than any cart ever could.
"The humans left so much behind." Hattori mused to himself, wondering why they hoarded so many material goods.

Her eyes scanned the various containers, searching for anything that might spark her interest enough that she'd want to take it with her, or else stash somewhere to dig up later. She glanced over at Hattori as he spoke about the humans leaving so much behind. Jynn nodded. "Yea, I wonder if they just liked to make things or if there were just so many of them that that's why we keep finding things they made." It was likely both. She'd learned that often was the case. Jynn turned around and headed back for the ladder, carefully working her way back up to the deck of the ship.
