Lukina walked out of the river as her time to race arrived. She'd been drinking some wine and had spilled some of the dark red liquid on her pale white fur which almost immediately stained. She'd gone into the river to wash off though it started to take off some of the mud she'd applied earlier. Luki wanted very much to fit in with the other swamp wolves so she'd gotten used to adding mud and moss to her fur to fit in as well as to provide much needed camoflague. A pale white wolf in the middle of a swamp was an easy target for gators and large snakes. Oh well, she couldn't do much about it now. Lukina pulled up some river mud the streak her shoulders a bit before she headed for the starting line.

Soul was having a bit of a hard time keeping track of everything, maybe expected considering his own disability but Soul was also just an excitable young man and he was already working through the many many scents he was taking in. It did mean he didn't know what to expect from his opponent for the race, simply had taken the time to trace the scents of the other racers, done his due diligence to take notice of the river and where the lapping of the water came from. As much as possible he would try to keep his opponent on the inside, a barrier between himself and the water. Soul gave the woman, reeking of fresh mud, a smile. "Heya, I'm Soul! Good luck to you!" He said, turning his face towards the young woman he was racing against and gave her a wide grin. He would prepare himself, ears perked and nose twitching so he could try and trace the track with all his other senses, white toes digging up the ground when they were given the starting signal, Soul starting to run. Lukina eyed the course, trying to get an idea of what laid ahead. Her opponent soon showed and she smiled politely. "Hi, I'm Lukina. You too!" She didn't notice he was blind and turned her attention back to the race just glad that her opponent seemed nice. She didn't like racing wolves that would lord it over her if they won and minimize her victory if she came out on top. This boy seemed well-grounded. Lukina readied herself and when the signal to start was given she sprang forward. Sand flew threw the air as she ran, her paws kicking it up as she sought to keep her traction and navigate down the beach. On her side a large chunk of drift wood was caught on the shore. Lukina swiftly jumped over it and continued to run.

She seemed nice if a little bit damp smelling but that was totally fine by Soul. He allowed a laugh to rise from his lungs as he ran, feeling the curve of the ground below his paws and doing his best to stay on track. He veered a little wide maybe, paws scrambling to keep him upright as he leaned into the turn. He was just starting to right himself when he felt the ground dip more suddenly than he thought and Soul tumbled, skidding slightly along his knees. Soul did his best to bounce back quickly and keep his pace up, able to pinpoint his opponent's location in relation to his own by the pounding of her paws. The boy did his best to stay close to her, slightly behind planning to put on a burst of speed once he could tell they were close to the finishing line. Lukina was enjoying herself as she ran, so much so that her tail occasionally getting away from her and wagging as she ran. She didn't know if that was good or not. Was it better to have your tail low? High? She wasn't sure but either way she was still enjoying herself. A frog hopped out of the way of the running yearlings, leaping into the water with a solid plop. She'd have been tempted to chase after it but instead she focused on the race at hand. She could go frog hunting after the races and spars were over.
