Áskell hadn't really done much racing. He thought he was reasonably fast but in all likely hood he was just average. After another cup of ale he swaggered on down to the sand where the races starting line was and decided he'd just give it his best try. Still, in his head flashed visions of victory. How cool would it be if he actually won the races? Trying not to get to ahead of himself Áskell opted to focus on the race at hand. He rolled his shoulders and shook out his paws in preparation then readied himself. Glancing over to his opponent to make sure the other boy was ready to roll. Áskell didn't want to win on a technicality.

Úlfr stalked over to the race starting line, testing out his limbs. He was pleasantly buzzed but not so much that it would affect his ability to run and win the race. He sized up his smaller opponent, noting the other boy was built more for speed but Úlfr had practice as a hunter and he was eager to show what he could do. Not that any of the other pirates were here as far as he could tell but it was still a matter of pride. He wished to gather stories of victory he could share with his mothers. Úlfr lined up in front of the line drawn in the sand and waited for the referee to yell start. In this case it seemed Dagrún's kestrel was going to start them off. That was fine with him. He was ready to run and win this.

Áskell was glad when his opponent finally showed and he gave the other boy a nod before taking his position at the starting line. Áskell noted that his opponent seemed like a runner but he hoped he'd be the faster of the two and have something to brag to his brother about when the party was over and he returned back to Habari. Áskell watched the kestrel as the bird counted down the start of the race. The minute the signal was given Áskell shot forward, pulling ahead of Úlfr. The landscape flew by on either side of him and he took a brief moment to appreciate the beauty of the sunset reflected in the water.

Úlfr nodded in response to his opponent. He noted the smaller boy's physic and had a feeling the other was built more for speed but the track was a good distance and Úlfr was sure his endurance was better. He had a lot of practice in keeping pace with larger prey animals and making sure he could push them to their limits. Úlfr tensed and when the starting signal was given he bounded forward. The other male was ahead of him but Ulfr wasn't worried. It wouldn't be for long if he had anything to say about. The pirate put on a burst of speed and sought to catch his opponent.

Áskell sprinted down the beach, kicking up sand as he went. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Ulfr was starting to catch up to him, pretty soon they were barreling down the beach neck and neck. Áskell was panting, trying to push himself even further so that he could pull ahead. Ahead he could see a chunk of drift wood. Askell timed his movements carefully to leap over the piece of driftwood without losing a step. That was good, any stumble now could give his opponent the victory and Asked certainly didn’t want to lose so early.

Úlfr grinned as he got closer and closer to his opponent. He put his head forward and kicked off hard until finally he managed to catch up. They were running neck and neck and Ulfr did his best to try and pull ahead but he just couldn’t seem to quite do it. As they ran along he saw there was a chunk of drift wood in his opponents way. Ulfr sought to keep his position steady so that he could pressure his opponent into it. There were certainly no rules against such a tactic. He liked to consider it as being resourceful.
