A firefly-watching spy?!

Misery was raised to be a creature of the night. His dark pelt with silvery top worked great at winter in night where the silver blended with the snow while the rest of him could all but disappear in the shadows. Tonight he had left the den and made his way to explore the rustling thicket. If he was to be a master spy someday he needed to sharpen his skills. This would be a great way to prove himself to mom. Slip onto someone else land, find a quiet spot to lay low and see if he could learn anything.
As one who spent most of his time in the dark though he knew things were off. Fireflies didn’t belong in winter. They had shown up in summer but then been around less come fall. So what was with the obvious speckling lights of fireflies a short distance away? Their was a bit of wind tonight and as it blew threw this area it caused the tree’s and branches to rustle, sometimes the wind itself seemingly having a moaning pitch to it.
Misery loved it. The setting had an eeriness to it that boded fun, hopefully. An eerie setting was meaningless without a few ingredients. Someone else soaking it in would be a good start but did he really want to go back into the pack land to find someone to enjoy it with? Wendigo could be fun for this sort of thing but he was already out here and going back risked the threat of missing out if the fireflies left or the wind stilled itself. Hopefully some of the wolves from this pack would show up and entertain him. Hopefully it freaked them out so he could laugh silently.
Misery continued creeping towards the fireflies, noticing it seemed almost brighter around them but fireflies could only give off so much light. Was it a trick of some sort? Was it something about this area that attracted them? Perhaps the pack had some secret to it that caused this?

Senryu had spent a lot of time exploring lately. Travelling around Bores, and learning things. That had always been a big thing that he wanted. To explore and travel, and meet people. He’d had a few adventures, and now there was something about coming home. He wanted to see his parents, but he’d gotten in pretty late, and made a little bed for himself in the thicket. He was just settling down when Rhyme (his bird, not his dad) squawked out a warning.
For a moment, he thought the warning was about the fireflies. He’d been so tired coming in he hadn’t even noticed the colourful creatures flitting about. For that matter, he hadn’t really looked up, and noticed the moon. He did so now, frowning and glaring. Huh. Weird. But Rhyme was still squawking at him. He shook out his musings and got to his paws, following after the bird. “Hey, hey, this is Abaven territory!” he cried, when he finally noticed what all the fuss was about. A wolf, a none Abaven wolf, was skulking around. With a cry, Ru charged, throwing himself at the stranger.

Admittedly Misery had wanted someone else to join him out here but the ideal had been for Misery to steal go unnoticed and hopefully see something interesting. The next best thing would have been to met a wolf he could charm. What Misery got was first a noisy bird interrupting his musings followed by another wolf around his own age charging towards him.
Damn. He should have brought Carnage, she would have welcomed the fight. Could he have lured her onto another packs turf? Hmm, he’d have to wonder about that later. “But –“ Misery called out as the wolf came flying at him with clearly no intention for debate. Misery would gladly kill that bird at somepoint if he could do so without being found out.
The young wolf had found ice and snow to be his best friend, as the much much larger wolf came at him Misery dug a front paw in the snow and flung it in the air, along with some twigs and grass that was stuck in it. The snow just wasn’t deep enough here to totally obscure such things but anything thrown at the wolf would work for Misery.
Misery wasn’t use to fighting anyone so tall as Senryu and found himself dashed to the ground as the wolf threw himself on top of them. He started to spin about to attempt to bite the other wolf when he changed tactic and cowered instead, hunching his shoulders, and tail curling up under his belly. Unfortunately the way he was laying under the wolf’s weight it probably wasn’t visible but still, there was a clear sign of giving up. Misery was about to offer words of apology but stared as one of the fireflies landed on Senryu’s nose. It was so close and so bright! They definitely seemed to give off more light than the ones in summer time, the wolf before him was cast in an eerie glow as other fireflies flew above them both, their abnormal blue lighting surely the reason.

The wolf started to speak, but Ru didn’t catch the meeting in his sudden rush at the stranger. He leaped, and grabbed at the other wolf, spitting out the sudden snow and bits of earth that were flung in his direction, “Puh!” he spat, even as he finished his leap and landed on top of the stranger. At first, the wolf beneath him writhed like he was trying to get free, and then he stilled.
Ru paused, looking down at the stranger, and realised he wasnt fighting back. What was Ru supposed to do? He was supposed to fight off intruders, right? Ru opened his mouth to say something, and a firefly landed on his nose. The Abaven boy froze, going cross-eyed as he tried to look at the creature. It made a little buzzing noise, and another firefly appeared. Ru quickly snapped his maw shut, and looked down at the stranger. The firefly still on his nose. “These yours?’ he asked, confused.

Misery would fight if needed but he didn’t want to. Master spies don’t fight their way out of every situation. It was nice to know the thrown snow and dirt tactic helped a bit. After a moment the other wolf realized he wasn’t fighting and seemed confused. Misery imagined pondering this more but then there was the firefly on the other wolf's nose.
Misery would have liked to get up but wasn’t going to shove the stranger off of him. “You ever hear of someone owning fireflies?” Maybe he should have said yes actually? That could have been funny but it might have been hard to keep believable. “There’s more of them just a little ways off. See, I hadn’t been meaning to cause trouble. Look over there,” nodding his head towards a brighter blue glow, “a whole bunch of em. I was wondering if the place was like cursed or something, ya know?” If the guy could ask if the fireflies were his could he also fall for the concept of curses?
“It’s really freaky in a way, or two. For one thing, it’s the wrong season, for another, it’s the wrong color. Even the moon is off. Look up, I mean it is really really bright which I guess can happen but don’t you think it kinda got a purply-blueish tint to it?” Misery shrugged, “So, maybe since it's your land and all you’d be ok with us going to look at it together? I’m really curious, ya know? I’m Izzy by the way.”

Ru shrugged and scowled at the question “I dunno, people own all sorts of things” he pointed out, looking down at the small stranger. Then the stranger started talking again, going on about curses in Abaven lands. He drove the other boy's shoulder harder into the earth. ”Hey, you take that back! Absven isn’t cursed” he protested, this was his home “This was your fault, you brought the fireflies here” he accused, glaring down at the boy.
“You can investigate it outside of ABaven lands, you ain’t supposed to be here” he said, getting off the other boy and pulling him roughly to his paws. Keeping his eyes on him in case he decided to do any more tricks. As he moved, the fireflies parted and moved around them. Surrounding them, without actually touching them - other then that one that had landed on his nose.
