Ru was determined to get to the bottom of what was happening around Abaven. The days were so short and then when night came, and the full moon reappeared in the sky above, things got weird. Sometimes it started with a funny glow on the plant life around the pack. Like they were lit from within, luminescent. Other times it started with those fireflies, colourful and bright and active, floating about the pack like little bobs of light.

Distrustfully, Ru stalked one such firefly as it frolicked along the sky towards the stream. Asking himself the important question - would eating it give him magical powers - or a stomachache?

Somehow it was winter again and Corvus found himself already longing for the return of warmer weather. It was nothing at all like the previous season they'd endured, but living so close to the ocean made the wind feel especially bitter. Today - or tonight, rather, - was no different. Corvus braced himself as a gust of wind barrelled through the plains, distracted from his late-night patrolling, but it wasn't due to the wind whatsoever. Something odd had shifted recently, the nights growing longer... which wasn't unusual during the winter, but they seemed even longer than he ever remembered before.

Tonight felt even stranger. The moon was bright in the sky, a brilliant shade of shifting blue-purple that seemed to reflect down on the world. It was almost like the light itself had come down, floating around in little orbs here and there. At first he'd thought they might be fireflies, but he'd never seen fireflies this color... but surely they couldn't be anything else? It was peculiar indeed, and he couldn't help but wonder what was going on. It wasn't much of a surprise someone else was out exploring the night, and he loped toward Senryū when he saw him up ahead. "Weird stuff, huh?" Corvus asked the yearling with a little grin as he closed the distance between them.

At the sound of a voice, Ru glanced up sharply, rather distracted. It took him a moment to focus on Corvus, but when he did he grinned at his older cousin. The other wolf had always been cool to him, and that made him a decent wolf in Ru’s books. Weird is an understatement!” he declared with a huff and a laugh.

“Just look at them, fluttering about like they own the place.” He said, waving a paw at the overly colorful fireflies dancing under the creepy moon. “Do you want to help me catch one?” he asked, looking back at Corvus hopefully.

Weird was an understatement, Senryū was right. He'd seen plenty of fireflies before - they were common in Serpent Plains especially, a regular visitor during the summer months - but they weren't blue and purple. They were always pale yellow, he'd never seen anything like this before. He wasn't sure they were fireflies at all to be honest, though he was curious nonetheless. "For real," he agreed with him with a small chuckle.

Though all this was strange, he didn't quite get the feeling that anything was terribly wrong. Briefly he'd thought of the volcano's eruption and the precursors to it - this was nothing like that. There was just some strangeness in the air, he had to keep telling himself that. He wasn't sure Abaven could handle another tragedy. "Sure, lets try to catch some," he agreed, his eyes lighting up with mischief. At heart Corvus was still young, and he enjoyed spending time with Abaven's youngsters doing nothing of any real importance. Leisure time was why they all worked so hard, after all.

The feeling of spookiness receded a little with Corvus’s presence. With the older wolf beside him, he instantly felt less alone. He straightened a little, his eyes dancing from firefly to wolf. Corvus was - once again - happy to get wrapped in Ru’s plans. Grinning, the yearling bounced on his back paws, and scrutinised the bugs through a blue gaze.

He leaped in the air, attempting to snatch at a bug, and it fluttered higher, a silhouette beneath the overly bright moon. Hmm he hit the ground again with a soft thud and looked back over to Corvus. “We need a way to trap and catch them” he said, scrunching his nose in thought.

You notice a nearby plant reflecting the purple glow of the moon. You also find 3 mushrooms. Maybe these are worth keeping…

Corvus wasn't sure what there would be to life if it wasn't for some of the youngsters here. Not that they were tiny pups anymore; even Senryu was already a yearling, barreling quickly toward adulthood. For a moment he thought to the children that hadn't been - how old would they be now, anyway? - but instead of dwelling on it for longer than a second he refocused his attention on the boy in front of him. He watched as he leapt up high on his back legs, batting at one of the fireflies.. if they were fireflies at all. He thought he saw one dissipate, but it was hard to tell if it was just his eyes playing tricks on him or not.

He nodded at the other wolf's suggestion. What could they use to trap them? As he considered what he'd said he caught sight of something nearby, a plant that he hadn't noticed before suddenly reflecting sharp purple, the moon's reflection shining down upon it. "Woah, Sen..." His voice trailed off as he tentatively eyed the plant before leaning to poke it with a forepaw. He tried to keep the nervousness from his voice but something just seemed wrong about what he was seeing. "You ever seen a plant do that?" It was like how the still surface of water might reflect, not something he'd ever seen plants do before...
