Come down, come down sweet reverence

After making it safely across the mountain range they rested for the night and as soon as the sun started to peak over the horizon Jynn was up and ready to go. She slipped away from the black sand beach to find that it was snowing. Large flakes fell from a dusty blue sky that was just starting to turn a warm, peachy color as the sun neared the horizon. Looking out to the west she could see the slate blue ocean, the waves lapping over the deep, reddish brown rock. Out in the distance she could see another island that seemed to be made entirely of ice. Part of it glowed aqua when hit by the sun but it was quickly becoming covered in snow. To her right she noticed that it seemed steam was coming off of one of the pools of water near the ocean.

She was about to turn to speak to Dagrun when a column of hot water erupted from the largest pool to her left, catching the color of the sunlight as it shot into the sky. Jynn shrieked in surprise and stumbled back slipping on the ice behind her and landing in a tangle of legs.

Dagrún stretched and yawned but soon she was ready to be on her way. They started early in the morning so they could cover the needed ground before nightfall. It was cold but as soon as they started moving she started to warm up. The morning sun was beautiful in the early autumn sky and soon the duo arrived at a strange area right near the sea. There it was! They'd made it to the western sea. Before Dag could really take it in a massive column of steam and hot water shot into the sky. Dagrún frizzed u and scrambled back. The column rose for a moment and then slowly sang back down into the steaming pool.

Jynn managed to quickly untangle herself and get back on all four feet facing the spout. "Sheesh, bout had a bloody heart attack." Jynn risked moving closer but she took care to stay at least a couple feet from the edge of the pool that had erupted. She could just make out that it wasn't some shallow pool of water but a deep, deep lake that went down farther than her eyes could see. Her large ears flicked forward as she listened for anything that might sound like a growl or breathing, any indication of something large living down in that pool. Though, to be honest, she couldn't imagine something living down there.

"The rocks where the water fell are warm. It must be really hot in that pool. I kind of thought sea dragons were just a myth but I may have to start re-evaluating."

Dagrún took a moment to take several deep breaths herself after the explosion of water. She'd never seen anything like that before! Jynn approached the pool of water cautiously and spoke of sea dragons. Dag's ears perked up with interest. "Oooo my mom's told me about dragons…" She frowned and glanced at the water again, hackles raised as she scooted closer to Jynn. "They can be huge. There's no way we could defeat one in our state. Maybe we should go?" As cool as it would be to slay a dragon and bring the head back to her mother she knew this one had to be absolutely massive. Bigger than even the mammoth. They didn't want to tangle with that.

Jynn scooted back to the safety of the shore, further away from the dragon pool. The snow was falling heavier now, large white flakes drifted through the sky. It was gentle at first but the northern wind was beginning to pick up and she was sure there would be plenty more snow that would fall here. They'd best get moving. She nodded at the mention of them losing a fight with a dragon. She had to agree. Those were some pretty crappy odds. "Yea, let's get going. I don't want to become anyone's dinner rand I also don't want to get got in a snowstorm."

Jynn agreed that it would be in their best interests to start heading back and Dagrún nodded. She'd feel better if they had some safe shelter nearby but they didn't. She cast one last look at the pool. Steam continued to rise up from it, mixing with the falling snow in a strange and beautiful dance illuminated by the soft morning light. The wind picked up and Dag shuddered. Yea, definitely time to get moving. She turned and scrambled after Jynn. While it was technically the end of autumn, the sharp coolness in the air was a distinct reminder of the coming of winter.
