Jynn skirted around the edges of the Whistling Willows. Winter had moved into the south and many of the trees were now missing their leaves. There was no snow on the ground yet, however, just a thin layer of frost that was likely to melt in the sun's direct light. Even though the air was cold the warmth from the sun could do wonders. Jynn trotted along a deer trail with her companion Tahmores. The little ethiopian wolf had returned from visiting family and she was glad to have him back. There wasn't much on the agenda today, just wandering. It was true she meant to stay in Auster for the winter but in practice she kept finding herself lured back and forth between the two continents.

_________________________________________________________________ In need of getting a good stretch out of her legs after such peculiar events, Audra made her way from Druid's Moor. It had been nice getting to rest from a bunch of fun activities and excitement. But now that her den was filled more than enough with herbs, she was ready for another adventure. Her paws crunched against the frosted ground as the sun warmed her russet-colored coat. A quiet hum buzzed in her throat as she found herself in the barren trees of the willows. Thankfully, it was quiet here today and not much to look at since winter had clearly taken place. Content to wander herself, she was surprised to see the long-legged wolf she considered a friend. "Jynn!" Audra called out as her own slender legs made her way toward the traveler. "Hope you're faring well this winter," she said joyfully as she pulled up beside the fiery wolf. A smile swept across her lips as her tail wagged happily behind her. "Maybe you'd take me up on a race if you're not busy." Jynn sniffed lightly at the willow tree where she could detect the faint smell of squirrel. She found the little creatures terribly amusing though she didn't have much hope of catching them. Not unless she found one that was significantly injured. She was about to start heading southward again when a familiar voice called out. Jynn looked up to see Audra. "Audra! It's good to see you." She headed toward the other woman, her tail wagging as she went. "Well enough all things considered. A race would be great. I think I need to warm up my limbs. Would you like to count down or shall I? Maybe the finish line can be that old willow over there with the broken limb."

_________________________________________________________________ Audra was glad for Jynn's friendly reaction. Nodding her head in response, she looked over to the tall willow Jynn pointed out. With her own limbs already warmed from the stroll, she'd been taking, she was ready to get started. "I'll count down if you're ready!" Audra exclaimed excitedly, moving her body so that she was more aligned with the chosen end goal. Bending her knees a few times to loosen her muscles, she rolled her shoulders back and shot Jynn a glance. "1," she paused, a smile licking the corners of her lips. "2," another pause to build up the anticipation. "3!" Her chirping shout scattered a few birds into the air as her paws shot forward. Digging into the dirt, Audra began making her way to the willow with the broken limb. Jynn nodded as Audra offered to count down. She got into her runner's stance, her ears flattening against her head in an effort to make herself more aerodynamic. Her large ears had their uses but having giant furry radar dishes on top of her head did little for speed. Audra took her time with the countdown and Jynn fidgeted in her eagerness. When at last three was hit she bounded forward across the frost-covered ground. The air was crisp and cool and it made her feel alive tearing through the territory. Her breath spilled out of her mouth like fog and she lapped up the sunlight on her back.

_________________________________________________________________ Listening to the beat of their paws against frosty earth made Audra happy. If she could race around Boreas for the rest of her life, she'd be content. Excitement coursed through her as the adrenaline kept her going forward. There was nothing better than racing with a friend. Her own tongue lolled out of the side of her mouth as she chirped happily. Reaching near the end, the willow tree in sight, she stretched her short legs even farther. While Jynn was much taller, Audra had speed and endurance to make up for the difference. The heat from her paws seemed to melt the frost on the grass and as she ran she noticed the terrain was getting a bit slippery. She dug in her claws, seeking to keep herself stable. While she had no problem sliding across the finish line she didn't want to go down prematurely and ruin her changes. As if listening to her thoughts the universe intervened. Just as Jynn was getting near the finish line she slipped and careened forward. Only a moment would tell whether she managed to squeak ahead of Audra or if her slip up would cost her the whole race.
