geese go quack, quack

Hunger struck her suddenly. Had she not eaten recently? Where was her little slave boy when she needed him? He normally stuck near her, but not today. Frustrated and hangry, the small horned girl trekked through the lands in search of something. Anything to satisfy the rumbling in her stomach. Even her cat had wandered off to go be miserable somewhere else. Sighing under her breath, Celeste had begun to notice the sun rising more often as of late. This made her happy as mushrooms and crystals were also slowly disappearing. Winding through the lands, she came across a woodsy area with drooping boughs. Water popped up often and the sound of calling geese caught her attention. While plucking the feathers would be obnoxious, the taste of their plump meat would be better than nothing. Turning herself so that she headed in the way of their scent, her pace slowed and her body lowered closer to the ground. Keeping to the tall grass where she could hide, her aquamarine eyes watched the geese paddle around a pond. Licking her lips as her ears began to lower, Celeste crept toward the gaggle. |

The madness that had struck Kotori was fading but it had been a damn hindrance when trying to hunt. Every hunt had ended not only in failure but extreme failure. He still felt his focus trying to slip away from time to time which meant a bad time to go for anything overly difficult. He knew the weeping woods well with them being right next to the pack land. Which meant he also knew all the favorite spots of the waterfowl. Sure, they could pop up anywhere but they had favorite spots to raise their chicks and return to frequently.
This was a step up from fishing and hopefully, it meant soon he could work his way back up to the deer or boar he should be hunting for. His interest shifted quickly when he scented another wolf nearby. Without the scent, he likely wouldn’t have noticed her but that was as it should be if she was worth much as a hunter. Well, they both had the same plan.
Kotori shrugged to himself and found a different angle to rush the geese. He didn’t rush out though, instead, he turned his attention towards where the other wolf was hiding. If they could leap out at the same time it might confuse the geese so they both caught one easily. Kotori was all for making things as easy as possible.

Her toes dug into the dirt as she steadied her body. Thankfully the wind was quiet today and kept her presence hidden from the water fowl. Determined, Celeste inched a bit closer to the group with barely a rustle of the grass that kept her hidden. As she readied her body, a sense that someone was watching her made her pause. Turning Aquamarine eyes toward the onlooker, she tilted her black and white speckled face at him. Did he too want to hunt the geese? A smile tickled the corners of her lips as her head nodded softly in agreement. If they could time it right, they could easily take down one or even two of the birds that bathed in the shallow pond. Moving her attention back to the group in front of them, Celeste moved toward the edge of the pond where barely her toes and nose were seen sticking from the grass. Pausing just a moment longer, she looked once more over to the large wolf with a firm nod. In the next moment, Celeste leaped from her hiding spot and aimed directly for the nearest goose. |

Kotori felt a soft rumble in his belly reminding him he was hungry. There was food stored back at the pack in case needed but time had just proved that there should be spare in case of hard times. Kotori had never expected to see so much of the pack sick. There was a solid reason to be prepared.
The other wolf nodded its assent and Kotori waited. Once the other wolf started moving Kotori did the same. The scent of fresh grass starting to try and peek its way through the soil was a welcome one, noticeable even as he ran to the prey. Kotori kept his time even with the strange so they arrived on either side of the geese about the same time. Lowering his head Kotori startled some geese to fly straight towards the other wolf even as Kotori would put on his breaks, leaping into the air, his teeth gripped a goose's wing and while he had it, the grip wasn’t solid.
The goose wasn’t quite dead yet, it shouldn’t take much more. It tried to take off but the wing wasn’t working right and Kotori moved to put a paw on top of it to keep it in place.

They were in unison together as they moved agilely toward their feathered prey. Together they launched into the air and grabbed ahold of the goose. Startling the gaggle, they had no chance of survival. Noticing that the stranger had ahold of a wing, Celeste quickly twisted her body to grab ahold of the other loose wing that was wildly snapping in the air. Landing back into shallow water as the male put a paw up on the opposite wing, Celeste only released when she too could place her own paw upon the goose. It struggled and squawked loudly, protesting that they let it go. But it surely would die now. Reaching over, Celeste took her jaws around the goose's neck and efficiently snapped it backward. The life drained from its eyes as blood flowed into her mouth. A smile itched at the edges of her lips as she stepped back and took a look at their price. "That was some good teamwork," she mused, her aquamarine eyes flicking over to the brown spotted boy. |

Kotori had hoped they were each going for their own goose but in the end, she helped him take down his one. Kotori launched away from the moment she had a paw on its other wing. He ran to where the geese had flown off to a short ways off but they stopped as it was obvious they were alert and completely aware of his presence. Kotori watched them for a few moments, making sure none that looked unable to fly off.
He had ignored Celeste’s comment about teamwork with his focus still have been on hunting. Kotori gave a small nod at her curtly, “yes, it was easy with two of us hunting at the same time.” His words were kept formal and precise. He considered the much smaller wolf for a few moments and the kill they’d made, “enjoy.”
Kotori apparently had no intent to share the bird. Kotori had his pride and sharing a goose was rubbing it the wrong way. He was a great and powerful wolf and wasn’t going to say he teamed up to take down a bird. Admittedly, he hadn’t been hunting well lately and maybe he should be sharing it but the larger wolf had a double-helping of pride.
