The eternal night was finally over, and with the light of the sun faded away every mushroom and crystal that plagued the land. Callie was a bit disappointed seeing her grandfather's territory in the daylight - it was much more interesting when things glowed and pulsed like her, and much more boring when she discovered that the reality of Tall Grass Plains was... well, tall grass. Sea's Plain was still cool, thankfully. The water had lost some of it's mystery when the fungi no longer floated on it's shore, but deep within the ocean she could still see beauty and very rarely, bioluminescence. It was no wonder her mother loved the sea so much, and Calypso felt drawn to it more and more as she grew. With her father's leopard trailing dutifully behind her she made her way to the shores. It was odd, the companions really only stalked the children if they were to cross the border, but she hadn't yet crossed it nor did she intend to from the furthest east. Was it the water somehow that was dangerous enough to require an escort? Callie thought she remembered her father explaining that once upon a time he knew some pups who nearly drowned within it, but it wasn't as if the water could come up and steal her from the beaches. Whatever the reason, Callie was used to the constant attention of the leopard. Upon the sandy shores were paw-made arenas, well worn from years of use by this point. Training dummies were scattered among them too, though Callie saw little use in fighting something that didn't fight back. She brought herself to her full height, placing her forepaws upon the dummy and giving a shove, as if to test it's balance and weight. Boring. Her father wouldn't be impressed by her beating up an inanimate object - she needed an opponent. Decidedly, the girl tipped back her head and gave a puppyish howl for someone to meet her for her first real challenge. "Speech"

Basilisk had won his first spar against Levi, taken down his first solo prey, and was ready for some more action. The raven he had killed, he had already tried to turn its wings into an accessory - like his father. He was small yet, but the wings still looked a little silly on his back, so he took them off and left them hidden in a corner of the den. No point giving his siblings fuel to tease him.

He was making his way towards the training ring when he heard his sister call out, demanding an opponent to spar with. Perfect he thought excitedly, and picked up his pace. Making his way towards the ocean, and then up towards the barracks and training rings. There he found the sibling that looked the most like him. His opposite, in colours of fire. That wasn’t the only thing different about them. Cal had heavier set front paws, bear-like, in a similar fashion as their father. Her colours shone with actual light, unlike his own, and her spurs sat on her shoulder instead of her legs. To top it all off, Basilisk was already taller than her. He was taller than all of his siblings, in fact.

He grinned at his sister, stopped before her to nudge her shoulder with his head. “Come on then, shorty - pick a ring, I’ll take you on”

Her challenger did not take long to appear, and to her excitement he was none other then her brother. Basilisk was the other half of her, with markings that proved it. The largest difference between the two puppies was how he towered over her, a fact that had drawn their father to him and encouraged her to strive harder to match the attention. She tried to seem unaffected by his affectionate ribbing, though her markings pulsed quicker in response. I'm not short! Callie wanted to say, but rather then argue when she knew she was in the wrong, the fiery pup instead decided to focus that energy into their spar. He nudged her and had her pick a ring, and Callie loped over to an unoccupied one further away from the water and settled into a fighting stance. "When I win, you can't call me shorty anymore." She challenged with a playful grin, letting the expression remain on her maw a few moments before turning serious. Tail out for balance, paws spread for traction, her head in line with her shoulders, Callie counted down her defenses as she'd been taught. When she won, she'd be Basilisk's equal in their father's eyes and the two almost-twins would have nothing left to differentiate between each other. It was a day she had looked forward to ever since she was born, and today would be that day. Calypso allowed her brother to prepare himself, and at his cue launched herself forward. She had received very little formal training so far, so her technique mostly revolved around hoping to crash her body into her brother's and bite whatever was closest, be it cheek or shoulder or limb. He grinned wickedly as her pulsing coat gave away a hint of her feelings. He was both envious, and grateful, of that particular attribute. It was wicked cool, but telling in a way that he knew would get him in trouble with the father he wanted desperately to please. Still grinning, he followed after his sister into her chosen ring. Feeling the warm sand under his paws, and the rising need inside of him to win.

“Deal, but when I win you have to help me finish crafting something I’m making” he warned her, a mischievous glint in his eyes as he settled into his stance across from her. The expression of trouble didn’t diminish, even after Callie had turned serious.

He nodded to his sister, and she took the cue, launching herself towards him. He had a little more training under his belt then his sister so far, and he held his form. Waiting for her to reach her, and absorbed the blow with a grunt as she hit him. He aimed to bring his right paw up to grab beneath her left shoulder, and his teeth straight for her neck.

Calypso collided into Basilisk hard, squeaking softly as his extra weight and height made itself known deep within the muscles of her chest. His paw came up to her shoulder and she reacted instinctively, jutting the limb up hard to try and intercept his grab with the spurs that protruded from the bone there. His teeth were coming down upon her, but she was shorter and her brother would be forced to reach overtop her to grab for her neck.

Feeling his teeth puncture into her skin, Callie reached her own jaws up in a retaliatory bite. She aimed to land her fangs lower, where his neck met his vulnerable throat. With her right paw she aimed to slam down upon his paw opposite her, hoping her elongated claws might dig into the skin there and surprise him enough to force him to release her neck.

He might be taller, but she still hit him hard. As of yet, there wasn’t a huge amount of difference between the two siblings in height, though Bas’s oversized paws hinted at what he would become. As he reached to grab the underside of her arm, she rotated her shoulder, plunging her spurs into part of his arm as he reached around her. He growled as he felt them dig into his flesh.

His teeth had better luck, grabbing a part of her neck in his jaws. Not to be deterred, Callie’s jaws came up from under him, reaching for his own neck. He dug his claws in deeper, attempting to yank her neck to the side, trying to control her muzzle and where she could aim it. Her right paw slammed down on his paw, and he yelped, yanking it out from under her and attempting to rake his feline-like claws down her shin.
